My very educated mother just screwed up nicely.

When they went into this conference, they were discussing the possibility there might be twelve planets at the end of it. The "original" nine, plus Charon (Pluto's largest moon), Ceres and Xena. But instead of adding three, they subtracted one. Sounds similar to what SE does when it tries to find a solution.

Agreed. If they made every kuiper belt object a planet (lolsanta, buffy, xena, and whatever else they decide to name them) then we'd have way too many planets. If we make Luna, our moon, into a planet then they have to make Ceres and the galilean moons of Juipiter into Planets too. They are bigger or big as the moon. Can't remember which.
