That's how the first people reversed the battle.net authentication process for diablo2/warcraft3. In fact, I stepped through the code and reversed engineered the password encryption function myself. Took me about 2-3 days.

It means you can 1) write your own battle.net emulator for the warcraft/diablo official game clients to interact with (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard_v._BnetD) and 2) write your own standalone clients to log into the official battle.net (someone wrote an irc-like client for logging on and chatting in a minimal interface)

I believe this is from something I read about a while ago, to make standalone clients/servers so you can play the game and control the variables (be your own GM's?) but this wouldn't be on the SE servers we currently use.

By the way, most examples I was speaking of, were of gilsellers using it, having Mee Deggi claimed while they are on the other side of the pillar for more like half a minute, not 5-10 seconds. Not a king camp with tonages of lag.

First, where did your quote come from, shoot us a link to a forum or mailing list.

Second the gil thing. If what you are saying is true then it means one of two things. Either a player's amount of gil is stored on the client and there is no bounds checking (the server accepts what the client says, period) or the amount of gil a player has is stored on the server and when a AH bid, transfer or bazaar purchase is made the server accepts how much the client says it is spending without checking to see if the person has enough. Either way you're implying the server does no checks to ensure the player has that much gil and instead they did no checks and just hid it in encrypted packets. Wrong. SE is dumb but not this dumb to do ZERO checks.

Third, the claim thing, claimmed by me on my screen but still yellow to everyone else. How could this even be possible? You're saying that claim is held based on the client and not the server? Again, this would imply the server does no actual checks to verify who has claim and that's all done by the client. How would this work then? I claim it, and the serer lets me claim it but somehow the server doesn't update the monster's status (claim/unclaim/CFH) on all the other clients? How does my client prevent other clients from being updated? And how could it be unclaimable by other players? The server knows you are fighting it, what magic did you do to make the server not tell the other players "psst, that mob is claimed".

While the two things you talk about are certainly possible they are very unlikely. Bullshit until more details emerge or I see it with my own eyes, what you're saying sounds too good to be true.

I believe the most damaging thing that this "progress" could be done to the FF11 community is the creation of free private server. But if the chance of that happening is very small (or it happens beyond the game's life expectancy), I see little threat coming from this news at the moment.

So, please let us know when we can expect a free, operational private server.

With the private servers though, couldnt you technically get any armor/gil onto your client, then logout > log back into a real server with all your items/gil ?
