Um...I didnt read the whole Thread, but I read most part of it to know what this is all about, so I think I should tell you something.
There definetely has to be a way to "fuck around" with the Server w/o Square Enix noticing it.
I can't give you real proof for it, but an example I witnessed myself.
Last year, around March a friend of mine started FFXI, because of me talking about it that much and how "great" it is and everything. Then on May/June there was a Maintenance. After that Maintenance my friend got some crazy shit DCs, I never saw on anyone elses Account. He DCed w/o any delay. His character just depoped right away in the middle of any action he was doing. When he logged back on, his Character was standing at the last position, the game was "loading". That means he poped again at the position he last zoned, or where he last died, or logged on when he didnt zone and died in that zone he logged on.
The crazy shit about that DCs was, that when he logged back on, his whole Character was back to the Status, when he actually did die and/or zoned the last time. Meaning, lets say he died, then he was Raised and got like 5k XP after he was raised and lvld. When he had that strange DC,he logged back on, was lieing dead on the ground the same place he died last time, and had the same lvl and xp like he had when he really died. The Lvl and his 5k XP were gone and all Items he used and such were back in his inventory.
That was the moment when he and my friends figured to try something. We gave him ALL valuable items and all Cash we had and let him zone. Then he traded everything back to us, after zoning and we PLed him like shit in the very same zone, til he DCed. He came back online, was standing at the Zone and had ALL Items and Gil we gave him back in his inventory, although he traded them back to us after zoning, meaning the Server didn't "safe" his last actions after he zoned.
Well to make things short...I don't know if this ever happened to anyone else, but it happened to us and I don't really think we were the only ones to ever witness such a thing.
And I heard that some Gilsellers actually duped their money too, but not because of some bug, but because they were able to dupe.
PS: The next Server Maintenance/Update, the strange DCs never happened again...well but we used the fortune we had and "duped" Items and cash til we had around 750M lol
PS²: Please don't ask for names or anything. I'm posting anonymous exactly for that reason, because who knows how it ends up, if ppl actually know who did this and telling Square Enix or something like that, so don't even ask.

Actually that dupe thing , he's not lying about. Apparently if you turned your router off at the correct time someone trades you , it wont go through on the online client, but it'd go through on the dc'd client, so they would get a copied item. I wonder about those early relic upgrades where currency appeared out of nowhere >_> yeah . This got patched though.
4 words :
Fairy
Dupe
Kraken
Club
Uh, I thought the "dupe" thing was bogus because the said item used (Kraken club) is 'Rare'. How would it be possible for the game to even allow you to have two on you at the same time?
From my understand of what Wafik said each person would end up with one copy. The receiver (plug puller) would register getting the item with the server, but due to the DC the server wouldn't recognize the item leaving the original holder's inventory.Originally Posted by Nodachi
This is correct, it would duplicate into the other person's inventory, not into your own.Originally Posted by Tythera
This is also why when you are /logout or /shutdown, you cant buy anything from the AH.
Oh crazy =Q
Then yeah I'd not only question those who got relic weapons early on, but those with ridiculous amounts of HQ gear overnight lol.
There is much failed logic in how encryption can yield free exp. The poster was claiming that "You could just send off a packet saying 'I killed such and such monster, it was IT+++, and I did it solo.'"
There is way too much faith in how much processing is done client-side. If you lose power or something (or reset your computer) mid-battle, you are still swinging your weapon, taking damage... hell, you even gain experience if the server hasn't kicked you yet for going DC.
Sounds to any normal person that the commands sent are: movements, engaging, skills/spells/items used and text entered.
For all of this "Oh, well a server couldn't handle all that processing!" Sure it could. While you might think its a hell of a lot of commands to process, its a hell of a lot more of CPU cycles being used. The game would never have run if they didn't use a task queue and buffer system for commands received by the server.
Communication lag is there for a reason. Sometimes when there are a ton of players in a zone, you might have to wait 5 seconds for a door to open? Or maybe click it twice to open? Most likely, the "open door #7" command is low priority. So, it gets handled when other commands like "spend/update gil, engage monster, cast spell, update clock, timers, etc" are handled. And when too many commands come in, low priority commands like text or "open this door" are overwritten in the buffer.
If any of this were true, it would be detrimental to the game, but there would be bounds to how detrimental it could be.
If I could provide any Screens, Videos or anything, I would do that, but I can't XD
There are no Vids, Screens or anything.
BTW: One really important thing I forgot to say, me, my friends and the very same person who had those strange DCs, we are all playing on PS2. We did try like dozens of methods to "force" such DCs again, but nothing we did, showed the results we had before. :/
Well okay, you could say, we "duped" enough money to get along, but it was just so much fun XD The crazy shit is, just one more dupe, and we would have known if the inventory can hold more than 999.999.999 Gil XD
Though the funny thing is...if you want to say, destiny always catches up...it is true lol
My account got hacked a while ago and all my sellable Items were "stolen" and my casg too lol
The really strange thing is though, I am playing on PS2, so no one could have ever gotten my password with a tool and I never ever logged on in FFXI on another platform, other than my PS2 <.<
Seems there was a post on Zam! from someone who registered under the name of the leader, Neochikara:
edit: ThreadIn the upcoming months, there will be a release of a FFXi Server Emulation software base.
The reason for the release if to have a RMT, SE(f'd up antics), and a Player based appeal system....
The gameplay will be nearly or exactly the same as a official server. The EXP mods may be modified in early stages to allow for solo'ing due to a low player base, but as things progress, and the player base grows further improvments will be made based on -player base- agreements, and requests.
The type of connection the server will be ran on is a OC192 connection, which will handle nearly as much as one of the Official Servers on SE's connection.
I'll keep these boards updated, given the player base here wants me to. I'll answer any questions you have, just simply post below. If you want to flame this thread, please do it somewhere else, some people are actually interested in these things, and wouldn't like to read through someones crybaby remarks on the subject.
100% unadulterated bullshit.
Apparently there also was a type of delivery box trick where a pulled plug would cause the item you were franticly clicking to get out of your d.box would get placed in your inventory and not be removed out of your d.box.
That reminds me of hellboy's toon rollback :DOriginally Posted by Jahuran
