Should I be cheering for my school when I consistently bet against them?

Here's hoping for another shitty season from WSU.

Anyone got any idea for a national championship? Maybe a rematch of last year's Fiesta Bowl (Ohio State vs. Notre Dame) but after watching the Sugar Bowl last year, I could just tell that West Virigina would win it this year.

Anyone else thing WV will win? Or what do you guys think?

I don't think they will be tested enough with their schedule. Even if they do run the table, I think they would have the odds against them against even a 1-loss BigTen/Big XII/SEC/Pac10 team in the NC.

Agreed...almost their whole schedule are cupcakes.

And even though the media has a lifelong hard-on for ND, they still have a lot to prove before anyone should start talking about championships. They were an average team last year with a shitty defense and this year returns the same average team and the same shitty defense.

OSU could be a contender, we'll see how their D shapes up. And if Ginn can live up to the hype, which he has still yet to do.

As someone said WVU schedule will be their demise. Make no mistake they are a damn good football team and it seems they are the media darling (bar ND) this year so it could happen. OSU will be my pick dependent on the PSU and TX games. Other then that maybe Auburn? They have a punishing running game and their QB is smart.

    1. OSU
    2. ND
    3. WVU
    4. Auburn
    5. TX

    Those are my preseason 1-5.

Ohio State seems to be everyone's pre-season favorite, but I have my doubts. They have a tough early season game against Texas, and I think their defense is going to get flattened by the Texas O-Line.

My heart is still pulling for SC to make a run, but my head knows that they can't be that great with a quaterback named Booty

I like Texas to repeat over LSU in the championship.

    Woot! OSU #1! Go Beavers!

    Oh, wait...

It is moderately disheartening to know that OSU = Ohio State in 48 states (Oklahoma being the other exception). Of course, Oregon State did win the NCAA baseball title last June, so that's a good step in the right direction.

I think Oregon State's football season depends entirely upon the quarterback. Although Matt Moore had flashes of competence last year, he was mostly shitty (13 TD vs 19 INT). Six interceptions and a fumble in a home game against Arizona cost us a shitty bowl game (shitty bowl game > no bowl game).

Oregon State has all the tough teams in the pac-10 at home, and all the weak teams on the road. A creampuff non-conference schedule, and I see a bowl game if the QB situation is mediocre. If OSU turns out to be a good team and can win the road games they should, I could see a 9 or 10 win season (they play 13 games). I predict 7-8 wins and a mediocre bowl game, but based on their advantageous Pac-10 schedule, a middle of the road finish.

The rest of the Pac-10 seems similar. Arizona is everyone's pick to be the "sleeper," which means they're not a sleeper at all. Both Washington teams suck, although the Huskies should probably be better. The conference title is pretty much USC's to lose, IMHO, since they have both Cal & Oregon at home. Road games at UCLA, Arizona and Oregon State might prove to be tricky, but I don't think so. Oregon has to play road games at Arizona State, USC, Cal, Washington State and Oregon State. Losing less than 3 conference games for the Ducks would be quite a testament to their skill.

Since Oregon State's only had one top 10 finish since 1967, I don't pay as much attention the national scene as others. I'll just pick the Pac-10. Kudos to the Pac-10 for using the 12th game to make the Pac-10 a true round robin.

    1. USC
    2. Cal
    3. Oregon
    4. UCLA
    5. Oregon State
    6. Arizona State
    7. Washington Sate
    8. Arizona
    9. Washington
    10. Stanford

Interesting, my Pac-10 is going to be as follows:

    1. Cal, 2. USC, 3. ASU, 4. Oregon, 5. UCLA, 6. Washington, 7. OSU (TAKE THAT BYRD 8) ) 8. Arizona, 9. WSU, 10. Stanford.

I'm choosing Cal over USC because Cal can and will beat USC, mainly with their defense. John David Booty won't be able to handle some of the big games imo, not against an experienced team like Cal.

Also, me being the Husky fan that I am, know that last year was Willingham's first year back in the Pac-10 as was the 3rd coach in 4 years. Now that the players know what to expect and there is an atmosphere of confidence behind both the offense and the defense.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Thursday :D

I've met a self-respecting Husky fan that didn't talk some shit.

Honestly, I could see OSU ending up anywhere from 4th to 10th, depending on their QB and their secondary. Favorable schedule and the homer in me tells me they will do better than 10th. I could even see the Ducks sliding past the Beavers due to the difference in schedule. Unlikely, but after losing to them in the Civil War by 42 last year, revenge would be sweet.

Of course, the drawback to having all the bad teams on the road means that if you are a mediocre team, the USC and Cal games are home are unwinnable either place, but games against UW and Stanford that *should* be easy wins at home turn into tough games on the road.

And Thursday, OSU vs. Eastern Washington! The Thursday after, OSU @ Boise St, that should be a good indication of whether 4th or 10th is more likely.

I predict Notre Dame beating Georgia for the national title.

I'm a K-State (lolkansas><) fan, and I think we're either going to be amazing and maybe even have a shot this year at finally getting to the big game, or just suck ass. I really can't tell yet, but I highly doubt we'll be anywhere in between.

Also, no matter what anyone says, Texas didn't win the national championship last year, Vince Young did. And it will show this year.

If you put Vince Young as QB at USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, almost any top 10-15 school, he'd have won the national championship there too, there's no doubt in my mind.

Can't wait for the OSU v. Michigan game. Michigan always has a way of fucking up OSU's perfect season even when they have a poor team.

    My prediction/hope: OSU national champs!

I hope they keep Lloyd Carr as coach of Michigan for the next 30 years with his wonderful track record against us. Really love his game plans el oh el
