My ex-wife cheated on me and ditched me and my son and has ruined many men's lives after that, blatently stealing their money and hearts...not a damn thing has happened to her and now she's one of these "born-agains" that preaches salvation to everyone as an excuse to not apologize or repent for any of her previous actions.

What many people understand as religion is nothing more than shadows on a cave wall. Especially those who think religion serves to dominate, murder, or otherwise take advantage of its followers. What a bunch of foolishness.

I don't think that the subject is simple enough to convey in a little post on a message board. It's something that must be experienced firsthand. How can you describe to a blind man what it is like to see or to a deaf man what it is like to hear? Such is the issue with attemting to describe to one who simply has not been "awakened" to the understanding of religion and what it is.

It must be experienced.

Am I referring to a belief in Christ? No. Do I even imply the reverence of God? Again, no. It is something much more complicated and beautiful than those simple images, who work merely as puppets to potray what it is in our life that is truly divine. Something much more mysterious and wonderful, that I fear, a large population of people have lost sight of. People, who as I said before, sit and stare at the shadows on the cave wall.

I personally think this is the trigger of the minds most amazing defense mechanism, when thoughts are as close to reality and dreams are as real as the vulnerable skin surrounding your body.

Our minds are weak and we look for an easy answer just so we can sleep at night… Even the Moses and his magical stick that parted the “red” sea is about to be hit by the reality stick… due to miss translation and prolly the abuse by prophets making the story amazing for others.

Calling it a "lie" is totally missing the point of a "metaphor." They still teach kids what a metaphor is in school, right?

Ancient tribal religions believed in talking animals and doing dances to resurrect the spirit of their food. Do you think they actually literally believed that? Not nearly to the extent that people these days believe in the literal truth of their stories. That would be stupid. Different animals represented different ideals, or different aspects of humanity. Resurrection was not necessarily literal, it was just observed through the death and regrowth of plants over the winter, or the birth of new calves to the herd of buffalo that they had just eaten one of. Religious symbolism is more complex these days, but still symbolism.

Is Santa Claus a lie? If you are currently an angsty teenager or still act like one, you would probably say so. But he still brings happiness to children and makes the holiday feel more festive even though he doesn't literally exist in flesh. The positive things that he "does" (what others do in his name) makes Santa Claus a metaphor for selflessly giving to those who both deserve and need it. In fact, it's truly selfless because you are giving to someone without making your identity known, without the ability to receive even a simple "Thank you" in return. But, you have to tell a kid that Santa is actually real because otherwise, like most people with religion, they won't "get it."

Don't me me wrong... talking to animals and dancing for there future food is abit crazy, but I do understand that as "people" regardless of what organism they eat... they still feel like they owe thanks for the life sacrificed.

And Eaglestrike, the only thing I'm worried about after dying is that my family will be ok. I don't want any crying at my funeral, I want booze and strippers. The only thing besides that is what kind of worm will be crawling through my skull after I rot away. I don't beleive in religion, so I could care less. And if I was wrong, then oh well. I've lived in Texas my whole life, its hot a fuck here, so it won't be too bad.

I just find it commical that people are like... "You should be careful what you say about Heaven and Hell, because even though I've never died and been to either one, and I've only heard things about them, it might be true and you'll be in big trouble girly!"
