I don't think I have seen the OP respond to this thread since the first page......
If Rocl says hold the pickles, you better hold the pickles.Originally Posted by rezn0r
Well then the solution is obvious: Award loot to players based upon who is holding the most pickles.
Both systems have their comment flaws. None of them is perfect, otherwise there wouldn't be drama when the lolsash came up.
A point system generally rewards a member for his total contribution and ranks him up in line for certains rare items. The more he raids, the closer he is to getting that certain item, be it Ridill, E.Body, etc. Now, the only drawback is that old members can rake up points and just stop raiding but still be first in line for most items, whereas a new member will busting his ass to catch up. There are certains that my LS does to prevent these types of things like freezing their points if they've been gone from the game for a certain amount of time. All in all, the point system is quite impressive. The main rule for point system LSs is that your input will equal to your output.
I come to fafnir and nidhog on ranger, but Im a warrior 90% of the time (except sea, where I save blms from prudence rape with timely 45 second shadowbinds)
edit: my point system thought got lost, I found it now.
the primary problem with a point system is people save points forever, to end that issue, have points expire or set a point limit. that way people will spend thier points and you wont have some super twinked BLM lotting an ebody for the 39 up and coming war over the 3 other wars who need it but arent quite as old as the long running blm
or make said items cost more points if your primary job cannot use it
Our LS doesn't use points, but it's definately not a "Divine Choice" either. There are very few times where we say "XXX lot on this." On anything EX, there is almost always multiple people lotting. Whether people choose to pass or not is up to them, but is a common occurance (aka 3 PLDs are told to lot, and 2 of them agree that they should pass to the other PLD)
Here's the basic rundown of how stuff works for us:
1. In general, if you can use it, you can lot it. This covers most item drops.
2. "Only one of XXX" rules. For example:
Only one King Body Abjuration.
Only one sea torque.
Only one sea cape.
These essentially force people to choose the item that is most useful for their jobs. We do make exceptions to these, especially when we "max out" on some items (like Faith Torque), or when Koenig drops and there's only one PLD present. But for the most part this helps to ensure that people are getting useful items, and that no single person is loading up on all the good gear.
3. Dynamis lotting is done by setting #1, #2, and #3 job in your search comment and that's the order you lot in. The only level requirement is that your #1 choice must be able to wear the AF. #2 and #3 can be anything, even unlocked jobs if you wanted.
4. Nashira/Homam is similar to Dynamis, you choose #1 and #2 pieces and based on what dropped, you get to lot with other people in the same category.
I could keep going but it's not really necessary. Our LS is so close-knit that we can usually agree on who should be lotting stuff. Also, most of our members already have the gear they need (we've been doing Kings/sky loooong before they became crowded) so it's not nearly as cut-throat for stuff like Ridill when only 2-3 people in the zone don't have one.
This is a pretty solid system.Originally Posted by Faranim

Always, but in that case a "leader" or in this case Drew completely disregarded it.
It works in a few ways but you need decent leaders there, and even then if someone slows down on activity and other people step it up, it doesn't matter, the inactive guy can still get whatever usually. If someone's already "ahead" then they can skip stuff and not have it hurt them whatsoever.
This is actually exactly how my LS does it... except we don't do sea right now, so that part doesn't apply yet~Originally Posted by Faranim
Funny thing is most everyone wants dalmatica as their king body abj, so e. m. and w. bodies get free lotted between everyone who can use them because the people who wanted it as their main got it already...
Other things like ridill are open for anyone to lot on if they can equip.. we just have faith that other people are not lotting stuff like that for their mannequin and are rly going to use it.. only exception was w.leg, we got all our PLDs equipped with them before free lotting commenced.
That is a good system but as you say, you were near max before kings got crowded. If you don't have the players that were near max that long ago, its hard to setup a good loot distribution system.Originally Posted by Faranim
Although using either Divine Choice or a points system may work depending on your linkshell, it seems like the worst option would be having a points system and allowing your LS leaders to disregard it when they felt like it. Thus the E.Body extravanganza.Originally Posted by Zetah
The most important thing to any system is consistency. If people know what to expect, they'll accept it. If that works with Divine Choice, great, if it's a point system, that works too. However, if the rules (regardless of which system) aren't consistently upheld or periodically waived for whatever reason, drama will result.
To be honest, if a member is saving his points up for something he badly wants, why should we stop from doing so? If that same member is contributing to the LS as well, why should we expire his points "after a certain time"? On top of that, let's say this member was saving his points up for an AV drop and his LS is preparing for it, should we restrict from doing so? This would cause a lot of drama and would only put the said member's contributions to waste.Originally Posted by Sonomaa
A lot of the people in our LS do raid. But, like always, we always have the same people raiding and ranking up points. The people who don't raid should have NO room to complain about points system because it awards you for your contributions to the LS. If you don't, you get shit. If you do raid, you do get shit. .
Back on the main topic at hand: I hate pickles. I grew up eating pickles and hated it. As much as my mother bitches about her mother shoving cheese down her throat and that's why she hates it so much now. I'm using that excuse for pickles. My mother who had cheese shoved down her throat as a kid constantly forced me and my siblings to eat pickles as a 'vegetable' with our dinner. I was totally confused because it wasn't like pickles on a sandwich (which I grew to hate) It was like "ALEX EAT YOUR PICKLES" and I'm like "DUDE WTF THEY SMELL WEIRD" cause I was so young and they do smell funny and they I'm not exactly partial to the taste. So, I ate many pickles because we had no dog to feed them to when my parents weren't looking (which I am always a little envious of my little brother getting a puppy to give his food to) and I hated it. Thus, I hate pickles. ALSO, completly on-topic Chick-Fill-A reference in my previous post reminded me of this mall up at Oxford Valley, which in turn reminded me of the movie theatre near by- WHICH reminded me of a funny story.
Quick history: I have one sister and five brothers. The brother in this story is not the brother who paid for adult friend finder with his wife's credit card. (I also I changed the names just-in-case scenarios occur)
I have a very best friend. Her name is Liz, she is a sweet girl, a few years older than me and we are awesomtacular friends. Now one day, a few years ago, she drove to my house because we were going to see some movie. Unfortunately, my older brother came down the stairs, and since he had the mystique of an army boy on leave- they instantly fell in love. It was most upsetting for me- he was quickly invited to the movie (which I cant remember for the life of me.) I was quickly demoted to the back seat while my older brother,Cale rode shotgun. As I sat in the back seat twirling my strand of nothing with my index finger, the two of them had really hit it off. By the time we arrived at the movie theatre they were pretty much having sex in the front of the car. Needless to say, I saw the movie alone and had to take the bus home. So disappointing. They are now married and my brother's off in Korea or some crazy asian country but coming back stateside soon. Me and Liz still hang out often and she's off to school to become a journalist or some shit. Either way, IT WAS A LIFE SCARRING EVENT.
I totally thought this story was funnier. Maybe it would be more amusing if I told you one time, I described people in the school play as "thespians" and everyone's ears perked because they thought I said "lesbians". That would be a much more interesting topic of dicussion, of course.
THATS WHY I SAID HOLD THE PICKLES
Rocl you're the best.
