Thieves have been able to harness the full power of true strike for a while, that's because we're broken and can force big numbers out of D:15 weapons, warriors now have that ability with the mace.

The big numbers from true strike are if you Sneak it (a.k.a - if the WS crits), and being a 1 hit WS, if it both crits and Double/Triple attacks, you pull off nice fat numbers.

For a while I was skeptical of it myself about it being able to happen, but after reading some extensive tests and doing my own I'm pretty sure the above is true.

Back on topic though, True Strike is so damn broken.

No buffs other than songs (no SV)... I've been messing around with it on high defense mobs where Rampage sucks, and it's crazy. I popped out a few last Dynamis-Xarcabard for 1-1.4k with the average around 700-800, versus Rampage averaging like 400 damage on the higher end mobs there.
Whats up with True Strike anyways? Never heard about people doing insane numbers till a few weeks ago. What makes it so good?
And, are these numbers with SA? 300% tp?

Maybe double attack + critical, though it doesn't sound like MS was used to force a critical. Not sure if Warrior's Charge was used either. Like Wafik said though, its always been a handy back-up WS for THFs, especially against bone mobs. I've used True Strike with Kclub and put up some pretty big numbers on stuff like Xolotl, Apollyon SE and Aura Pots with SATA (critical'd pDIF x AGI/DEX stat bonus for most of the damage)

Double-checked the various sites though for the multipliers and I'm kinda having trouble reconciling True Strike's damage. Its listed as a 1-hit WS with a 1.0 fTP multiplier and 50% STR modifier regardless of TP (Accuracy bonus), that can't be right can it? I'd expect something closer to a 3.0 fTP multiplier or maybe the same as Full Swing?

Edit: Hmm thought about it some more, and I guess you could get @ 1k damage as /NIN and just a double attack (total 3 hit WS x 50% STR + 40D x 3.0 pDIF would be about 1k), although you'd still be relying on really high attack or a critical on most of the hits. True Strike isn't one of those critical damage WS is it?

Those numbers are all on WAR/NIN, no SA and no Mighty Strikes, and with about 100-150% TP. Most just have a DA proc or two.

I actually don't think it's a crit WS like Rampage or Jin, etc... Those usually have a huge range, while for the most part True Strike is just consistant with the same numbers in a very small range over and over. The only time it spikes up is when a DA procs.

True Strike: Deals critical damage. Accuracy varies with TP. The reason it doesn't have the range like rampage or jin is because its a sure critical whereas jin and rampage are chance to critical based on TP.

Which also explains why it does well against high-def monsters...it gets a free +1.0 to pDIF (in addition to a huge strength mod).

Ah ok, that explains it. Wasn't logged in to check when I posted earlier but I remember seeing that or another post talking about it elsewhere. Amazing how much info some of the WS descriptions can give you provided you actually read them. :D

But ya, that makes a lot more sense then, as WAR/NIN you'd have a 2-hit WS, both with 1.0 fTP and with Berserk and 2x Minuet have high enough attack to push pDIF after critical close to 3.0 cap. Still not sure if cRatio penalties are taken before or after the +1.0 critical bonus is added though....

But that makes sense, all you'd need is @110 damage "inside the box" to hit 1k damage on a 3-hit True Strike (just 1 Double Attack with WAR) since the WS itself guarantees critical if you hit.

for a 3-hit True Strike would be approx:

    WSD = 3.0 x 3.3 x (40 + 12 + (~50-60))

Would give you 1009 to 1108 which seems pretty accurate. Each hit accounts for about 350 damage which explains the big damage spikes on double attacks.

Also the fact that TP controls accuracy, so you don't have to save to 300, makes it really nice.

    Anyways

kekekek, I love Dynamis-Beaucedine. He got charmed, I wasn't, I had TP and all my JA's up, I told a blm to stand behind him and I let loose.

I also did a 1900~ mercy on an orc towards the beggining, but I forgot to SS

Ah, yeah that all makes a lot more sense... I miss-read the description as well.

One thing I'm a little unclear on though... It deals critical damage, but it's not necessarily classified as a critical hit, right? There's still a pretty considerable different between SA/MS True Strike and a normal one.

When playing drk, I always noticed that Vorpal Scythe usually did very crappy damage, but maybe 1 time in 10 it would do very very good damage. This of course is because the ws is classified as "Chance of critical varies with TP". Obviously the 1/10 really good damage was when it was a critical hit. (drk/nin btw so no double attack and no SA used).

Now True Strike's wording states "Deals critical damage." So just by comparing the results of each and the choice of wording, there is obviously something to figure out here. Is True Strike always like a pseudo SA + ws, or is there an additional bonus for using real SA + ws.

Its possible that it gets a flat 1.0 TP add in addition to a +1.0 from crit. Someone test!

Semi-offtopic but any linkshell that's gotten a Raphael's Rod ever let a thief play around with it and see what it can do? I know base damage isn't huge for True Strike but 40 damage is still 18 more than anything else a thief can use.
