Pretty sure you can just resist it 1/2 same as elemental magic. I resisted it once when I was the target of the ability. It's definitely classified as magic damage, anyway.

Edit: Found a screenshot of it. Forgive the annotations, I couldn't find the origional image. I made the notes on the side to show how Ultima switched targets to me mid-countdown when I hadn't acted on it and was in the process of running away.
