Fuck sand gloves. Camped that shit for weeks and went like 0/15 (all with TH4).

Yeah, I looked at the gear i'd need for an earth resist setup and basically went "...ok, yeah, screw that". Just not worth the inventory space for a fight that I already only take negligable damage/hit in the air on, we do maybe once a month, and I usually wind up going as a friend's BLM for.


Those 0's were with rampart though btw. I'm pretty sure I can knock it down to low single-digit damage, but for now i'm lazy and cheap--makes me want to try though! :V

Soraan and I are in same LS. Having 2 properly equipped tanks on Tiamat (one being PLD) makes the fight so much less stressful.

164 Resist with Shadow Ring is vury nice.

You probably don't have to use that +5 resist body on PLD if you have something better. I've found 160 (in gear) is really all you need to resist most of the air attacks. Of course, it also depends on your WHM (if they have AF2 legs or not).

I've got 172 resist and get resists about 95% of the time, so sacrificing some gear is certainly not a bad idea.

I usually get hit for about 7-9 damage with Phalanx 2 on. It's very nice =D Whenever I cast flash in the air, my macro just puts on all my enmity gear, casts, and then I throw on my resist gear again. I can usually do that between fireballs too.

Explain to me why thats better then taking full damage and casting Cure IV for more HP then you lost, generating more hate in the long run? Do you run out of MP?

I can see Ninja using this because they can't generate the hate back, but Paladin it just doesn't make sense.

The worst part of it is, having so much more useless gear to fight 1 mob basically. A mob that isn't even hard to begin with lol

Just makes the fight even easier? I'd much rather get hit for 10-30dmg than 200-300 on Tiamat (which loses much more hate; not all of us have Aegis). And you can only do so many Cure 4s before running outta mp yes, forcing WHMs and RDMs to use up their MP. Our WHMs can just pop a regen and rest. If I need more hate, I'll just do my -HP,+HP Cure 3 macro and right back on me hitting for very low dmg. Or I can cover someone else (which my co-tanks bitch about doing lolz /point Kelari).

Use a fire resist build to get hit for single digits in air = lose almost no hate.
Use a HP+ build for your Cure4 when wyrm is in air = gain even more hate.

Combine that.

A better question is: If you could lose no hate from taking damage while reaping the benefits of accumilating massive amounts of hate from tossing Cure IVs around, why wouldn't you?

Taking damage decreases your Enmity. Even if you throw on a Cure IV after it you've still lost hate where you could've prevented it. Much better off throwing the Cure IVs at people that lose HP from the unavoidable AoE damage, or just at yourself/others using an HP macro.

Personally as a NIN/DRK tank, I try to remember to bring all my HP gear when I tank with a PLD/NIN. In times where the PLD has extra MP and no one to cure, I'll make an extra 500 or so HP on top of my own for them to get hate with. It really works out perfectly, and avoids any unnecessary hate loss from having to purposefully try to take damage.


EDIT: Wth, thought I was in the 'post pictures of your gear' thread for a minute with everyone suddenly posting their resist setups. Should be debating this there if anywhere!

Well I guess it depends on gear then, because Tiamat hits me unresisted for 166, and I Cure IV for more then that, and with a Ghorn never run out of MP. In most cases I spend my time curing DRK using Souleater because I have too much MP. I guess it depends on your linkshell. Ninja has room for a fire resist, but a PLD certainly shouldn't my PLD gear personally takes up 45 slots of inventory not including the other things I have to carry around like Shihei, Cudgals, etc.. To everyone their own strat I guess, but I will never see the need for a fire resist when we destroy Tiamat without anything close to mp or hate issues.

i have plenty of room for my fire resist setup along with all my pld gear... and honestly the only time i would not use my fire set for tiamats is if it's being manaburned or if i simply didn't have time to grab it in the race to teh dragonz! i lol @ people taking full damage fireballs.

edit, for those unsure of gear on resist sets i have some lists posted on the KI pld forums (yeah yeah ZOMG KI!) i try to keep it up to date with both extremist sets and more affordable sets.
