As far as price goes, I thought I heard once that the prices will be broken up according to system. i.e - they get more expensive from NES through N64, which I think would be fair. I just really want to download OoT as I missed that whole bandwagon the first time around.
ninja edit - and when I read through that 1 more time, that is probably asking a little much, even for Nintendo.

Why would anybody desire either? Google 'HD-DVD DRM' and tell me it won't be an equally expensive and miserable experience trying to equip a PC, let alone a respectable home theater, with HD-DVD.

Both technologies suck for different reasons, but they're still shit. Yeah, I'll upgrade EVERY piece of hardware between my video card/DVD drive and the display just so the fucking thing will play like it's supposed to, not because of technological limitations but because of the goddamned DRM they programmed into it will downgrade the picture unless you comply.

well my point revolved mainly around backwards compatablility, seeing I have more than one frined that own upwards of 100 dvds. I have no fucking clue what your talking about though, I was under the impression hd-dvd will be available as a standalone player. But anyway I hardly care about DVDs to the point I want to argue, I was just bringing up the point, HD-DVD is much more friendly to people with DVD colections already.

If it had online play, I'd pay $10 for SNES mario kart and never think twice. I don't know what you guys were hoping for, fucking avitars on Xbox cost a dollar.

Would an HD-Dvd player or Blu-Ray make normal dvds look better? Or do you need the enhanced disc as well? Either way I hope either are quieter than the current 360. That bish is loud.

Anything more than 1 dollar for a NES or SNES(with online mutliplayer) game, 5 dollars for a N64 game, or 8 dollars for a great N64 game is too much. Plus, I really hope they have an excuse for having less than 500 titles at launch. Free emulators for pretty much all the consoles except Gamecube(I think) are out there with more games. I really hope they don't do this halfass or it won't make them anything more than a quick buck off some kids or people retarded with computers.

PS3 plays both DVD and bluray discs, not sure about other bluray players...

The real question is this: Is the quality going from DVD to HDDVD or bluray really worth all the extra money? DVD's with HDTV's already look nearly perfect, these new formats are just going to bring little cosmetic features.

With that said, bluray will be introduced on a gaming system for the masses. Whether or not it beats out DVD is not the concern since it will play both medias, HDDVD just doesn't stand a chance. The most HDDVD gets is a loladdon to the 360 that's not even going to be able to play games. It's already destined to fail.

Bluray vs DVD for gaming, however, is huge. Developers have enough space to do basically whatever they want. Big games like FF and MGS will surely take advantage of this. PS3 will stay competitive in the gaming market even if bluray is a "rich mans toy" or even just a gaming format, however if bluray beats out DVD as the media of choice PS3 will by a large margin "win" the console wars again.

Are you really that stupid? Like he said, there are emulators for all of these "virutal console" games. If they have online multiplayer support then they have something emulators don't have, yet it's not worth anything more then what BRP suggested.

If they want to make money they better make it worthwhile, unless you enjoy pissing away your money for the greater good of the Wii.

considering those emulators are technically illegal why should nintendo take them into account? Does Paramount go.... well Slusher Could import a bootleg from china so we better sell this DVD for $2. I'm not being Neive and saying people don't download emulators, I'm saying takeing that into consideration should not be part of your business model.

IMO $10 is pretty petty for a game. people dish out more for Zelda one on GBA.

They wont ignore the fact that there are emulators... and theres already other sites selling the same games etc for a small fee.. even free in some cases.

There are emulators that let you play multiplayter online. Wow, Max, calling me stupid and not remembering the success that is iTunes? Illegal or not, most people won't waste the money on something they can get for free. One dollar can be justified, because you get to use the Wii controller for some.

ROMs have never reached the level that Music sharing did. There was no napster explosion for ROMs. Its always been somewhat underground. The difference is iTunes requires almost nothing to convert. ROMs require testing time (ZSNES took many years to be compatible with the majority of games) and online multiplayer isnt easy to add. You need to set up a ton of things. You really don't understand how complicated the simplest of things can be.

first of all, if thats true, why is iTunes so sucsessful.

second your missing my point. I'm not saying People won't use emulators lol, I'm saying companies don't take illegal ways of obtaining an item into consideration when pricing something. How much cheaper are CDs since Napster came out?

Minions however made a good point, obviously they have rights of some kind to use those titles. And sites like gametap do exist, this is what I expect Nintendo to take into consideration when the price their virtual console.

Personally if I had to guess, I bet it will be a monthly fee, with unlimited downloads, in an interview before the gamecube came out Miamoto said he wanted to do a subscription service for games, instead of selling them someday. going to say 7-15 dollars a month, COMPLETE GUESS

In anycase if Smash Bros, Zelda, Trauma Center and Metroid are are actually ready at launch, who cares about virtual console.

Meh I care, and I bet others will too, there is a difference from getting to use the Wiimote and actually play it on your tv, than playing it on a computer with the keyboard (I know there is a site out there that sells the original controller with a usb port).
With that said, does anyone know a good N64 emulator and roms?
The big emulation sites that I know about Vimm.net (etc), I do not think carry them.
