Here's a hint: It's not the first one.

    Rofl Kuno, wtf @ that.

Anyway, sure graphics help, but it should never be the end all decision.

Sure but the main difference between Wii and PS3 is the graphics. The gameplay WONT change due to system, no? Or are you refering to the controls?

Way to find one of the few bad looking screenshots from Metroid Prime. That game had probably the best graphics in gamecube history, and yes there is a huge difference between it and the one for DS.
MP was stellar graphics and gameplay, period. Just look at the enviroments, or Ridley, or whatever you want.

Gameplay will definatley change due to the system.

Greater power/storage means more room for devs to throw in more bells and whistles to enhance the gaming experience.
It might not be very obvious if the competing systems are close enough together but if what everyone is saying about the power difference between the Wii and the PS3 is true, it'd be silly not to expect a different experience.

We pretty much reached the cap for most applications of power in gameplay with the last gen. All thats left is some physics, which, honestly will only matter if people use it. AI could be argued but the main problem with AI is development, not power.

I can think of a few things that devs will enjoy playing with on the new generation system. Things which got cut from current-gen games for being too cpu-hungry.

That said, what you can expect: more/more complicated visual effects (shadows, water), longer/more complicated animations, more interactive worlds, etc. Things that can be done with more engineering and the same amount of art. From still-shots the games won't look that much better, but will definitely feel better when you play them.

I love how when people get off of school and work these topics explode.

See I don't get how people actually believe this... Are you just trying to justify the Wii's lack of power or what?

I don't see any photo-realistic games out there, do you? They're close, but nowhere near what will be possible in the future. The more power these systems have the more ability they have to jump into the online scene, for instance. You can't take a breathtaking PS2 game and make it an MMO simply because there's too much to render. Now with PS3 and fiber optics (hopefully more common and cheap in a few years) there's just so many possibilities.

In my opinion the only thing you could call "capped" in this discussion are movies. Like I said a DVD and an HDTV give nearly perfect pictures, which is why bluray will have a hard time selling to consumers if they're more expensive then DVD's. The only way bluray wins that fight is if there's some way of producing bluray disks cheaper then DVD or just as cheap. For data storage and games, however, bluray is going to be huge.

ROMs have never reached the level that Music sharing did. There was no napster explosion for ROMs. Its always been somewhat underground. The difference is iTunes requires almost nothing to convert. ROMs require testing time (ZSNES took many years to be compatible with the majority of games) and online multiplayer isnt easy to add. You need to set up a ton of things. You really don't understand how complicated the simplest of things can be.
As teenagers learn to use computers, roms are becoming very popular. Within a few years, it'll be as popular as music sharing.

If iTunes sold songs for $10, it would have failed. Free to $1 is not a big leap. Anything more is too big of a leap without adding features. At best a few classics will sell and some kids who don't know about roms will ask their parents to buy some. Charging $1 for NES and SNES games without features added beyond online multiplayer is perfectly fine. Oh god, you wouldn't want to hurt the Super Nintendo's sales.

don't get me wrong I will buy a PS3, but probly not for a year or so, the price is too high for whats being offered at launch. Meanwhile Nintendo has at least 3 games out on launch day that I'm really looking foreward to playing.

I wouldnt buy a PS3 if FFXIII and GTA and MGS were release games, it still doesnt justify a PS3 at that price for me.

In retrospect if Wii was 600$ and had Zelda, Metroid, Smash bros and mario kart, I wouldnt buy it.

I was talking gameplay not graphics.

Theres a point where graphics really don't matter that much.

Personally, I look at a game like MGS3, and basically feel like I could be content forever w/ graphics of that quality, as long as the gameplay continues to evolve.

People are such graphics whores. I've said it before and I'll say it again, gameplay over graphics.

A more powerful system does not better gameplay make. It lets you have a ton more things happening at the same time, sharper graphics, etc, but the core gameplay can be done on anything. Its just a matter of how flashy it looks on another system.

If you look at the PSP, Sony (and their legion of third party developers) seem content on doing nothing but ports and rehashes of games. Time will tell I guess for the PS3.

Well said, FFIX is a good example... although the PS1 graphics weren't the best, the gameplay and storyline was truly impressive.
