in which Dragonstarr of the Valefor server had his account hacked, and I think claimed he didn't use 3rd party programs.
That's what happen when a noob download third party programs, they got hack themself, deserves him right.

Long ago, while a lower lv. bard, I'd sit in SSG and ask CGF for Minstrel's Coat. I'd help them camp Whitehearted just for my damn coat, I didn't care because no one besides other CGF camped against them. Every time I was in PT, there was constant /party counting down to NM pops, right down to the second Novv the Whitehearted popped.

Yeah, because you know, the Auction House information isn't stored on a Separate server accessible even if you're not logged into FFXI. That hasn't been proven or anything.

I may be way off here but are there not hack programs called packet sniffers which can tell you when a monster (I.E. a NM) will pop? I seem to recall seeing something a longtime ago about a program with a map overlay that would tell you where and when a NM was going to pop, because the server would send data about the pop earlier than it actually occoured. And this program was cappable of detecting these bits data.

However I dont know if this was a 5 min. advance or a 5 second. Also I dont have the screenshots or link to prove it but just thought I would throw it out there.

That was only a 2-3 seconds delay and nothing more, if I recall correctly.

ffxiah could gather its data just scraping the normal auction interface potentially. Its an after the fact web display. Realtime monster placement is a whole different sort of data issue.

I think Novv is a timer pop. It definately isn't lottery.

Um, last I remember, the 2 WHM Sahagin in the room were PHs. That's the only mob the CGF killed, if they could help it.

Exactly. I've seen huge differences in how long it takes to pop.

while we're on the subject. Anyone that has or knows about Mapmon, just wondering if it's a 'safe' program to use. meaning my shit wont get hacked by this program sending info to someone else?

    thanks.

That doesn't discredit my post then, because I'm talking about camping this thing like 2 years ago.

It wouldn't need to be realtime for one thing. Anyway, the original comment I was responding to was this:

There's no way to access widescan data clientside without opening widescan window.
That sounds pretty much like a statement-of-fact yea? If he wishes to offer proof I'm all ears, otherwise he's just making up guesses out of thin air, without having any real knowledge of how the servers or network architecture.

It seems possible if you have an application that mimicks a widescan "request" from the server at a constant rate. Although it seems like something that would be easily detectable, especially for a player without RNG or BST job/sub with a constant flow of requested mob location packets.

    P.S. I don't know what I'm talking about.

You should just stop talking. If you wanted to pull Widescan information from Memory, it would be stale. You cannot receive Widescan information if you do not have Widescan. When you open the Widescan window, the client sends the server an opcode asking for the information. So if you get the information from memory without opening the window, it'll be from whenever you last opened the window.

Maybe you should stop talking, lol. did I say get it from memory? I made the comparison to ffxiah because obviously it doesn't "get stuff from memory". It sends the same requests to the server that the client sends. If you have evidence to suggest that this is IMPOSSIBLE for an analagous method to be used for the widescan function, please present it. Otherwise, gtfo.

The Auction House uses a completely separate protocol, and is hosted on a compeltely separate server. Stop trying to cover your ass, you made a shitty comparison. It does not "send the same requests to the server that the client sends". The only way for this to be possible is if whoever made the program has successfully decrypted the network stream, and then I doubt it would be made into a public application.
