Midgardsormr PO disbanding RMT LS items

What i have is my own, and i do not request nor require your approval in what i do with them. Call me cold or heartless but neither you nor your opinions on this matter carry any weight with me. My gil i will do what i please with, my account will be passed on for someone else to use when my time is done.

What you have is the right to spend your time playing according to the rules, of course the non judgemental side of me says 1k is kinda hard to ignore.

And in all seriousness, I don't think i could consider myself not being a hippocrit if I ever did RMT my account and tried to justify it.

To go from being one of those that believes that the playingfield should be more or less equal so that real currency shouldn't have a place in a virtual world, to one being advantaged by RMT doesn't make me anything less.

Of course then we wouldn't have all the "how much to oil buy a kikoku" threads, which would make this site significantly less enjoyable.

Sure, but this would also imply(as you people have been doing) that I always though selling gil was wrong, and now i'm all of a sudden changing my mind. Which is not the case. I've always wished my friends well when they quit and sold their gil, more power to them they have something to take with them as they are returning to the more important thing, their real life. And when it is my time to go i will too take that same road.

I don't like the gil buyers, because they are the ones with no concept of the games economy. They are the ones who buy without a care to cost because they can just go buy more. To be honest i wouldn't care if someone did buy gil as long as they didnt' spend it in a way that was harmful to the economy. What you do with your own money is your own business.

If you think that without people who played the game selling gil, the RMT problem wouldn't exist you are extremely un-informed and naive to say the lease. Opportunities are meant to be taken advantage of, if you have a moral dilemma with that fine, i don't.

The game in general got really boring to me so i had to call it quits, for any of you that do end up quitting im sure you won't start another MMO but if you ever do should come join the rest of us on wow. :wink:

No, I know that even if there wasn't someone selling their own gil when they left there would be gilfarmers and so on. There is obviously a demand for gil for real money otherwise there wouldn't be a market for it.

And I'm not saying that you should or should not do it (I'm not a GM, a policeperson or a Lawyer), just that viewing it one way as ok (people selling their accounts and gil) and another way as not ok (people buying accounts) is hippocritical when you are referring to the same thing at it's core.

As you said this game is an escape, as are all video games and that is no different for me. Of course there are other way's to make money, i never said i played this in order to make money. I have a job and i work, and i go to school full time, and when i graduate this december with a degree in psychology, minor in spanish, i'm going to work more for the rest of my life.

All I need to say is since you are majoring in Psychology you should read up on rationalization before you post again in this thread. You may find some personal revelations.

There is a large difference between rationalizing something to yourself because you need to convince yourself that what you are doing is ok. And having a stance and sticking to it in the first place.

Just because we have different views, doesn't mean i'm irrational in my perspective or you in yours. I have had the same stance on the subject since i had a stance to begin with.

Bottom line is, i have put in an enormous amount of my time into helping other people in my LS's and asked for little to nothing in return. I have gotten 2 noteworthy items from an LS in my entire career, from 2 different LS's neither of which still exist. One of the items I no longer have due to the issue i made a thread about a little while back.

And you may want to realize that you are hardly qualified to hand out diagnosis before you post in this thread again. You have peoples respect on this forum because of your knowledge of the game and your personality, not because of your psychiatric ability.

Rationalization is not the same as being irrational. In your own words:

I know that my decision will have no direct effect whatsoever on the server of gilgamesh. I am not going to destroy the gaming experience of anybody left playing after i'm gone. I wont' be monopolizing NM's, i won't be undercutting on HQ product or jacking the price on synth materials. I won't be competing with people for kings or for drops in dynamis or sky or whatever. I will be gone, and if i take something with me when i go, that too will have no adverse effects on the game.

OK, perhaps RMTing your gil/character will have no direct effect, but you completely ignoring the very obvious indirect effect that you are supporting companies that seek to ruin this game. By giving them your gil/character you allow them to hire more gil farmers to monopolize NMs, undercut the AH, and jack up the price of synth materials. Yes, even if you didn't sell them your gil they would still be around, but that does not mean that you have to increase that company's bottom line. You may consider it a drop of water, but a deluge is just a whole bunch of individual water drops falling at the same time.

As i've said from the beginning, it is not the people who sell gil who are the problem, but those who buy it.

Wrong, both are the problem. People who sell the gil are opportunistic parasites, people who buy the gil are lazy bottom-feeders- but they are both cheaters.

Am I saying that rationalization is bad? No, we all do it at some point. People who download MP3s rationalize that they aren't hurting anyone, music companies who sue people for downloading music rationalize that they are protecting their rights and aren't greedy assholes who charge too much for CDs. My point is people who say that selling gil is ok because of x and it is not hurting anyone are deluding themselves because we have all seen the adverse effects of RMT in this game. (From level 75 noobs who RMTed their fancy gear and char but don't know the basics of their jobs to people not bothering with Serket anymore because there is a sign that says "Property of IGE" hanging from the front of the Citadel now.)
