    Red Mage Meritpo Builds

Ok, comming up on red mage 75 here hopefully within the next couple of days, and I'm considering how to setup needed merit points in the job. I have 3 main considerations though in determining a build.

Tarutaru, reasonable high-level gear. MP depends on gearset but runs around 820-850 on average, high end of 902.

    1) Black Mage already at 75 with some merits invested into it (+4 elemental magic skill, -4 Enmity, blm specific merits).

    2) Consideration of red mage as a primary job for any possible return to HNM/End-game activities.

    3) Consideration for future jobs, primarily bard and blue mage.

Also, in terms of red mage merit spells. I need to get a good feel for which to focus on. I'm leaning toward full meriting either Slow II or Paralyze II at this point, with Dia III and Phalanx II as secondaries.

Any recommendations or advice is appreciated.

Ice Accuracy, MP, Wind Accuracy, INT, Enfeebling skill if you have extra points in that category.

    INT merits on RDM? <.<

I don't pretend to know anything about the job but at last check that's a dumb idea.

I think he was taking the OP's BLM75 into consideration. If you're meriting Slow II and Paralyze II you should definitely merit MND instead, though.

Your EN spells can really push your damage up. Focus on accuracy and maximizing EN damage and you can be a winner.

I'd be infinitely more concerned about Slow and Paralyze potency.

    Edit : Flux wins

Yea, was taking the 75BLM into consideration also, 5MND isn't going to have a huge impact on enfeebles (Neither will 5 INT) but the INT will at least be a visible increase. (What do I know though, I have 5 STR merits for my MNK )

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

If you do dynamis with lots of paladins for sure spend at least one point in phalanx 2. If you want it to fit into a haste/refresh cycle spend two points. For other merits most rdm are dumping their points into slow/para.

I would only suggest using dia 3 if you love meriting, and bio 3 if you want that extra boost while soloing.

As for other merits, convert 4 ice acc 3 wind 3 is a popular combo, but if you feel as a taru you have enough mp to do everything you need to do then you can get rid of the convert merits and do 5 ice and 5 wind.

For stats I wouldn't suggest int especially since your a taru, go for mnd if you want to boost your slow/para.

Of course, meritting is all about prefrences but I hope that helps a bit. :D

Get convert recast 5/5. I used to be against this one since it works against divine seal, but like, who cares. Converting faster > Saving mp to divine seal+Cure4.

Next uh, I tossed them between wind/ice acc.

Now for t2, I put 1 in each of blind/slow/para/phalanx v2, I'd probably max out slow if I'm picking one, that'll help your LS the most since Elegy + Slow2 = easy tanking.

Speaking as a tank, when I see support casting Slow II and Paralyze II, I sport wood.

I love my 30-second Dia III. It's great for mobs that you SC on and might occasionally need to sleep should something go wrong.

It's also good for those times when other players Bio or Dia something that shouldn't be DoTed, you can Dia III it and know that in 30 seconds, you can sleep it again.

Also good for zerg rush (Dynamis Lord) and merit mobs.

I'm currently 63 RDM and I'm wondering why everyone insits on Ice and Wind Acc ALWAYS. I understand why they say wind with Silence but I'm thinking about meriting Slow2(3/3) and Para2(3/3) along with Ice(5/5) and Stone(5/5). Do you think this is an OK idea or is Silence just too important not to merit wind?

It looks like you're gonna use rdm for meriting alot. Get 5/5 vert. If you really plan on using it more often than blm at raids, which i dunno if you really will... then i guess you can do ice/wind acc. If you wanna do the tier2's, and you plan on raiding; max para2. I'd put 2 into slow2 and 1 into phalanx2, you'll be pretty happy with that.

Anyone ever merit BIND 2? Might be good for solo since it runs on a different timer than BIND 1?

"needed merit points" is an oxymoron last I checked. That being said, I have no idea how rdm plays and agree with everyone here. Except possibly flux.Imitation_Brady_Guide.
