I'd imagine more Dark Magic skill would cause you to average higher drains/aspirs and thereby hit the cap more often, but does not change the value of the cap itself. I now have 17 more dark skill in my macros (merciful cape and sorcerer's gloves +1) than I did when it was first brought to my attention, and the cap with those equipped appears to be the same (138 with pluto's and no day/weather) as it was at that time or as it is now with BLMs who do not have those pieces of armor.Originally Posted by aurik
Its not so bad because my SMN and RDM share a few things (most notably, staves). lolmelee RDM borrows from WAR, too, so overall, I don't have more than a single job's worth of RDM-exclusive gear.Originally Posted by aurik
But I'd have to say my inventory is more limiting than my macro palettes. I only have one palette reserved for lowbie jobs I might be levelling at the moment. When I'm done with it, or switch to another lowbie job, I just copy the macro .dat and clear it for the next job.
I've always noticed a positive different when I toss on my Moldavite Earring and Mahatma Slops in dynamis, coupled with my Anrin Obi and Pluto's Staff. I have a Dark Magic build, too, because my RDM dark magic skill is so weak... 221 skill and my highs are 149 for Aspir and like... 300 something for Drain. (It's hard to tell with Drain...)
There is no way you could perform the above test and NOT see a difference, no matter how random the results are (assuming it has an effect)Originally Posted by Dezzimal
BTW dark magic skill literally increases the cap on your spells, as well as accuracy and potency. It's the only offensive magic that does so (ignoring en-spells and healing undead)
Somewhat off topic but, i've noticed Diabolos's pole works better than my Pluto's staff for aspir/drains in dynamis.Originally Posted by Charitwo

Yes, it does. I solo Temenos East twice a week on my RDM and my maximum aspir on those elementals is about 105ish with uggaliph pendant on and 90 ish without. Latent is active of course.
Okay, even though one hour twice a week is nowhere close to the number of casts you'd need to truly back up a claim like this, I'm not going to play the "insufficient sample size" card because it tends to be used as an intellectual cop-out.Originally Posted by Shuvo
However, your reasoning still fails because Ugg. Pendant gives MAB+8 when in latent, and there's no way that's taking you from 90 to 105, even less so when you consider that as a RDM you're starting out with 28 MAB from job traits alone.
I said "90ish" because i don't write down the exact numbers. Definitly an _approximate_ ~10% increase though.Originally Posted by Suiram
Ok, as I said, you're starting with MAB of 28, which means if you're not wearing any other MAB gear (moldavite, AF2 feet, etc.) you're looking at 6.25% increase, not a 10% increase. To get to 105ish, you'd have to start at 98ish, which is nowhere close to 90ish if a number like 105 gets its own "ish". Getting my pointish?Originally Posted by Shuvo
That is ofcourse, assuming that MAB affects drain/aspir the exact same way it affects elemental magic.
Okay, what do you think is more plausible: that the way the game figures magical damage affected by MAB is calculated completely differently for aspir than it is for elemental magic, blue magic, and ninjitsu, in a way that what should at best cause a 6% increase instead causes a 16% increase that is entirely apparent to some, and so negligible to others as to be unnoticable? Or that people who want to believe one thing will interpret their observations to match their pre-existing, unjustified assumptions?
I will test it after this party if it's not too late
+18m.atk without changing int should make a difference on drain/aspir. Personally, I'm under the impression m.atk works for drain since it's a damage spell, but doesnt work for aspir, but I might be totally wrong.
I would be interested to know if night affect your drain? I got many 430 drain on pudding, and all of those were done at night. Rarely do more than 300 during the day.
The point is i'm noticing a general jump in max damage. I never aspir 100+ when latent of pendant isn't active. Can you understand that... let me guess you're going to keep argueing about the definition of 'approximate' now <_<Originally Posted by Shuvo
Also as for your earlier comment about 1 hour 2x a week not being enough - i disagree. I'm basically casting it every time the timer is up nonstop while in limbus (most of my macros have /recast aspir so i never miss it), not to mention i chainspell aspir as well 2/3rds the way through the fight. I have been doing this for several months.
And BTW, it's usually 30-45min, not 1 hour, depending on if you get time extension crate on 1st floor or not. RDM nukes are weak. :X
Guess you should work on those stats then, huh?Originally Posted by Shuvo
Its 10% Spell accuracy on NQ Staff 15% on HQ staff.... obviously you did NOT know that.Originally Posted by izembo

Temenos has double light weather which could easily skew results due to randomly gaining the effect of one icon or both.Originally Posted by Shuvo
And my point is that 90-105 would be significant but impossible (or highly unlikely, because it would require--as dezzimal indicated--a major readjustment to the manner in which MAB is typically used in damage calculations. One which, were it true, would make the difference in casting these spells with MAB gear so apparent as to have made this question not worth asking in the first place), and that the difference of 90-95 or 98-105 (5-7 damage) from the pendant would be so insignificant as to not justify the kind of assertion you are trying to make.Originally Posted by Shuvo
