Wii Launch Info

Jesus, my N64 controllers are all worn to hell. The joysticks have basically no elasticity on them, makes it really annoying to play games, especially SSB.

I spose my GCN controllers have gone through a bit of abuse, been thrown numerous times and generally thrashed. But the sticks on all of them have last elasticity, in fact the comfortable rubber pad that goes over the stick has fallen off my oldest controller. I'll go take a picture or something.

i will want only 2 of the crazy motion remotes, then maybe 1-2 crappy cheap ones. I cant imagine me having more than 2 people on it at once anyway, when i got my 360 i got an extra wireless controller thats still in the packaging; and its been like 2-3 months.

Most game you want to play on xbox/ps are single player, or online. I always had 1 controler for my playstation, and never needed a 2nd one. I can't say the same about N64 and GC where most of the best game are the one played with 2-4 people.

To play game like smash bros, you will need 4 classic controller, so that's 60$ right there.
And you will probably end up needing 3 nunchuk+wiimote combo for another "must get" game like mario kart, or something. That will be 47$ x3.

Maybe you and I are different, but all the people I played games with I do not play with anymore, we live in different places now, etc. Those people I can now play online with on Wii, 360, PS3 whatever the case may be. And if you are physically playing in the same place you could have them just bring their controller(s) over as well, if they have the system too of course. Systems have come with 1 controller since the dark ages, so it is not like you could have thought they would have bundled even 2 controllers, let alone 4. Online is the new brand of multiplayer, so I would even essentially say you should have these friends buy their own systems and play online across your city. There would probably not be lag, and there you would be saving the costs of the actual controllers.

It comes with one remote and nunchuck.

So essentially you'll need to buy 3 more remotes and nunchucks if you wanted to play 4 player games that uses the new motion jazz. I'm probably not gonna bother until SSBB, which I actually heard is using the GCN controller, so I might not need to then either. I don't really know, the whole situation is sorta confusing me right now. Chances are I won't get a Wii till after the holidays so I'm not too anxious.

P.S. Anyone that has a GCN, did your controllers lose their spunk quick too? The joysticks on mine all go to shit pretty quick (still an improvement from the N64 sticks), plus I've had 3 or 4 controllers that I had to toss because buttons stopped working or they just stopped working all around. I gotta compliment Sony on their controllers, never really had any problems with them besides a little stickage on the L and R buttons.

Seriously, I've never had a Nintendo controller stop working on me, the only time one has, was the one I threw against the wall playing Super Mario 64. Hell I still have 20+ year old cartriges that still work.

RE Wii information...

-The game consists of 4 "chapters", RE1's mansion, RE2's RPD, RE3's city areas and RE4's village (plus surrounding areas).

-Each chapter has 2 characters to choose from. RE1 has Jill and Chris, RE2 has Leon and Claire, RE3 has Jill and Carlos and RE4 has Leon and Ada.

-There are several characters that can be unlocked by playing through the game: Rebecca Chambers, Hunk and Albert Wesker.

-The gameplay of all chapters is designed around RE4's. Press the B trigger on the wiimote to go into over-the-shoulder view, aim with the pointer and press A to fire.

-The game will have QTEs, but rather than push buttons you have to make motions with the wiimote in order to get through them.

-All characters will have mêlée attacks, just like RE4.

-To encourage replayablility, each character has strengths and weaknesses, similar to how in RE4:Mercenaries Ada had the least health, Krauser was the slowest, etc.

-Just like in RE4:Mercenaries each character has a unique set of weapons. What's more players can only carry 2 weapons at any one time. Chris gets a pistol and shotgun whilst Jill gets a pistol and grenade launcher.

-You will be able to find several new weapons during each stage. For example, RE1 will have Richard's shotgun, RE2 will have the Desert Eagle, RE4 will have the Chicago Typewriter. There will also be new weapons like Krauser's anti-personnel robots.

-Similar to Devil May Cry 3, after each chapter you can save your data and any new weapons picked up will be available for use in Arcade Mode.

-Arcade Mode is like a giant Mercenaries minigame, where you pick a character and stage and blast through it. Building on the resounding success of Mercenaries seen when RE4 was released.

-Scenario mode will feature a large number of ingame cutscenes.

-New content not in the games that the chapters were based on will be added. The primary goal of this will be to link RE4 and Umbrella's status in it more closely with the rest of the series.

-Ammo conservation will play a part in the gameplay, so it's not just constant action like RE4.

UK, September 14, 2006 - Here's some cheerful news to finish off the end of all you European-type's day. UK high street retailer Argos has flipped up a banner on its website, proclaiming, "Nintendo Wii: Launching March 2007". According to eagle-eyed ad-watchers, the banner previously read, "Nintendo Wii: Launching Winter 2006".

While we'd hardly count Argos as the most reliable source for Wii news, it's interesting (not to mention a little worrying) that the store has chosen to update its banner so close to Nintendo's official European Wii launch announcement, set to be made in London tomorrow during a press conference scheduled to begin at 12pm GMT.

Nintendo observers have been quick to point out that Wii launch details released so far seem to mirror the launch of the original DS in 2004, with the US recieving the handheld in November, closely followed by Japan in early December. Of course, that time around, the DS eventually hit Europe in March of the following year - a disturbing omen?

Before we slip on our shrouds and stomp around the garden ringing Nintendo's death knell, it's worth remember that nothing is set in stone until the company lays down its cards tomorrow. Rest assured, we'll be there in force for full, comprehensive coverage. Oh, and we'll also try and steal you all a Wii.

Why do you have to buy that many controllers anyway? Do you have friends over that often? I have 0 friends who play Nintendo, so if any of them wanna play with my Wii, I'll tell em to buy their own controller or console. It's like how my 2nd GCN controller is permanently collecting dust. The controls aren't even seasoned. I hate my country sometimes.

I respect that Kaylia. To be honest it may be worth your while to get a couple Wavebirds. They were only 25 when they first came out, so you could probably get them cheaper for when you wanna play Smash or Mario Kart (whenever that comes out down the line).

I saw several games in the Wii Preview reel that looked amazingly fun, but none of their names were listed so I couldn't tell you which ones specifically. But, I definitely did see launch titles that I want too, and they, at the very least, look "decent."

I agree you are right about that at this point. TP is the only of the big first party franchises getting released at launch right? Excite Truck looks gay i'm sorry, and lolredsteel, that game looks SO TERRIBLE. When I saw that footage at E3 I laughed so hard.
I think TP and VC at this point will keep me occupied for a long while, and I am sure there will be a couple sleepers.

Yep, I'm waiting for the EU dates to decide if I'm importing or not. If they do it Feb/March+ 2007, I'm importing for sure. Not only that, I hated waiting 8months for games to be converted over, just so they can be translated into french and german, and all the cutscenes converted into pal (not properly though) etc, for nothing. I'm sick of PAL getting f'd in the pooper.
