NA release was fun because we had no idea what the fuck we were doing. Falling down holes in Ordelle's on top of tentacle monsters, riding the selbina boat and seeing dhalmels for the first time, wiping to the 2-3 fight, etc. That's what made the first weeks the best, not the awesomeness of not having a subjob or any gear.

Lol...first time zoning in to Tahrongi Canyon and engaging a D/C rarab thinking it was weak as the ones in Sarutabaruta only to get bitchified. Good times.

WAR is just a subjob. Use a Sword and Shield, since that's what you start out with.
DRK/SAM is EXTREME DAMAGE. I cannot wait until I get to level 60 and sub SAM for Meditate!
MNK? Get the fuck out of my PT, you useless MP sponge.
SMN/BLM is great since you get more MP and SMNs shouldn't heal
RNG/THF is great. Go AGI bonus!
RDMs should melee. They're a jack of all trades!
    Elemental staves? What are those?
I'm a White Mage. I charge 300 for Mea, Holla, and Dem, 700 for Yhoat/Altep, 1000 for Vazhl, and 5000 for Raise I.
Elvaans suck at pretty much everything: no MP, no INT, and no DEX.
Hi, I'm a SAM, what skillchain do you want me to u- never mind, I'll just Penta Thrust

The sad thing is THF sub gives no AGI over NIN sub for RNG (I'm like 99% sure, correct me if I'm wrong)

The reason they monopolize things are because nobody competes with them. It's very simple

The only thing that maybe might entice me to start over on a new server is if they released a modern client that only worked with the new server. The current client didn't even match existing mmorpg PC client standards when it was released, much less today.

IMHO, the only folks that want a new server are the ones that couldn't get along with people on their current server. This is why split servers are pits of hell. All the antisocial types pull up stakes and march over the hill expecting to suddenly get along with a bunch of other people who couldn't get along with anyone either.

One of the best parts of FFXI is that you are always known. Unlike other games, you aren't forced to change to an entirely different character to play a different class. If you change jobs to experience game in a different way, you're still on the same character and everyone still knows you. There's no hiding. This is great for all the friendly people out there and bad for any unfriendly types. Sounds like a Win/Win to me.

The game reseting every 6 months is absolutely fucking stupid. Dumbest fucking idea I ever heard. Its even dumber than the guy who thought magic giving 1 TP per 10 damage was a good idea. Why the fuck would anyone but retards play in a game that will not matter at all in 6 months? I can't even scale how stupid that is. All that gear you worked for? gone. The furniture arrangement you wanted? gone. Level 100 craft? gone(and almost impossible to begin with in the first 6 months). Quest progress? gone. Rank progress? gone. Ever wanted to be rank 10 in all nations? Pointless now that its striped away. Everyone would have to grind to 75 asap, only to lose it again. Anyone who only plays this game casually would get nowhere ever. Really great fucking idea. Max was it who said it? Good job, you created a concept that would be so bad, a MMORPG made by you would fucking end within 1 year. Every other MMORPG would feel better because it wasn't that one.

Lets not forget its FFXI. One of THE main highlights of FFXI, one of the few things that save it from its poor end-game, is the progression you can do on different levels. If you like quests, monster titles, assault rank, mission rank, fellowship, chocobo breeding, ect ect ect.

Man, thats just fucking stupid. Stop talking.
But youll play on a private server, in which your progress is meaningless and in now way affects your main character? Ironic.

Some people do play for fun, you know.
You know the game's not real, right? His 'main' character is whatever he decides it is.

Absolute Best imo was the Brady Guide saying that NIN is a bad subjob because the better Ninjutsu were higher level.

    Not really.

The point of any ( or most ) MMO's is to upgrade your character over time. You work and work and work and over the course of your playtime you feel like you have accomplished something. Yes, its important to socialize too. But without the feeling of working towards something, you would ultimately have no motivation to actually play the game.. at least I feel that way.

A server that resets every 6 months loses that feeling. A private server does not.

ninja edit: not everybody automatically puts "private server" and "hack the game to make it stupidly easy and pointless" together.

If there were server resets it would take skill and strategy to a whole new level. The dynamics of the game would be so different. Honestly, get past your initial reaction and think about it.

Diablo II is also free, allows you to grind from 1-80 in under a month even if you start from nothing (hi2u skellemancer) and most importantly, all you have to do is farm and grind. Diablo II and FFXI are about as similar as Starcraft and Alpha Centauri, but hey they're both set in space on weird planets so they're the same right?

Saying FFXI could do server resets because Diablo II does it... I don't know where you thought this was a good example because it sure didn't come from the land of good ideas.

Unless you're proposing massive crafting/XP bonuses to such a server the entire idea is flawed from the get-go. Who would make it to 75? I don't think anyone even made it close to that in the beta, and that was 4 months.

I'm exping right now. If you REALLY want I can type it up later. I dont care if I'm ripped apart.

Oh and my inspiration wasn't diablo II's ladder, that's the closest thing I can think of that many people have played. My inspiration was actually a game called Kingdom of Loathing. The idea has developed substantially since its inception. If you actually are interested to see why the fuck I came up with it, I'll post the whole thing. So is there actual interest or not?

Sounds ridiculous but I'll read it, but atm I see no reason to have your shit reset every 6 months in this game.
