Really because the cost of a HD-DVD player is $500 at Best buy so really there isn't a less expensive option :D. Guess some people just like to bitch.
no, some people like to be reasonable

get your head out of sony's ass for one second, blu ray sucks, ps3 is basing its extremely high price point around blu ray, as was said earlier, you cant get off your ass once every 4 or 5 hours to change a disc? its not like your gonna only be saving like $100, going to a regular dvd rom will prolly cut off $300, guess what, PS3 IS NOW COMPETETIVE and will most likely win the console war again

but no, sony wants to force blu ray down everyones throats and is praying to god that the brand name SONY will carry enough weight to make enough people buy it without thinking

from what ive been reading, both blu ray and hddvd suck ass anyways, even on tv's that can support the hq image, oh yeah, then add to the fact that only certain movie studios will support each format and they wont support both, so basically your buying a blu ray dvd player, that you are HOPING will play the movies you want to watch, and so you can sit on your lazy ass for days on end while sony slowly shoves their collective cock down your throat

I think they also want a better HD experience since its basically the new wave of the future.

But, there is still speculation between which is better, HD-DVD's or Blu-Ray. Sony apparently thinks its blu-ray... They are a strong company im sure other than the price and a few other things that can be fixed over the next year that the system will be really good.

WOW your very upset. Look I have no problem with changing disk but people complain and bitch about little shit. Perfect example in FFVIII people complained about how long the GF summons wheres and the boost feature that came with them even though you didn't have to boost and the summons were very well done. Which is why in FFIX they damn near took out the summon animations. People complain about everything and I know people would bitch about having to change game disk every 4 gaming hours.

Just like Boyiee said Sony wants to put this HD technology to use, to make our gaming experience better. I like Wii and I will get one first but you gotta respect Sony which most of you dont because you can't get this Nintendo fanboy crap out of your heads.

Does respect = arrogance? Cuse Sony has been nothing but arrogant of late.

Im no fan boy either, if Wii were 600$ id say fuck them too.

They have won the console war for 2 generation of system, not sure what you expected, most humans would act like that. I do see your point though but still you gotta repect them for what they done in the past and what they are trying to do now. I want my games to have HD support be able to use all the features of my TV, when I get an HD TV :D

Nintendo won the 2 generations before sony did, doesnt make a differance. Just because a company wins the last year or the year before, doesnt mean they will again.

For all I know theyll both fail and 360 will win.

I dont think anyone here even considers 360 to be in the race :D

Nintendo won the first 2 faces because Playstation didn't exsist. For the record Nintendo got cocky during that time as well, how do you think Nintendo lost all its third party support during the N64 days, because they where too cocky to switch to CD's they wanted cartridges.

It's just the latest "big revolution" in media. BG forums wasn't around when DVD's were created, but it would have been interesting to see people's reactions then.

Some things flourish and become standard, many things flop on their ass, even if they are good.

Super CD, DVD-Audio were both supposed to be the "next standards" in their classes, neither is utilized at all anymore. I actually own some Super CD's and the things are fucking amazing, it's wonderful to put a home system on 5-channel passthru and just play the source contect with no processing whatsoever, they sound so goddamn good.

There is no question that either Blu-Ray or H-DVD will fail (or both, and maybe a few more) before a standard finally emerges.

Sony isn't trying to force you to use Blu-Ray, they are trying to further technology and I promise you that they will have game that will fill a Blu-Ray (and beyond) much faster than you realize. HD gaming isn't properly utilized yet...just think about how much space it will take to fill a RPG scaled to 1080i with real-time-graphics for the whole thing.

It's a risk that the company is willing to take, if Blu-Ray does win out then Sony is at the leading egde of the whole fucking thing. Every electronics company watched/learned from IBM not patenting the PC and making one of the biggest mistakes in business history (along with telling Bill Gates to take a hike with his crazy DOS system when he tried to sell it to them), they know the way to cash in huge is to be on the forefront of something that takes off.

It's their risk to take. I personally won't pay $600 for one, but many videophiles will. Until the price drops to 300ish I'll enjoy a Wii.

It's the truth yeah, its not the fact PS3 will fail (it may) its the fact people dont wanna spend 600$ on it. If/when Sony lowers the price too 300$, there will be a mad rush.

I'd pay 300$ for a PS3 in a heartbeat *shrug* I'm very excited for PS3, and several games coming out for it, but I refuse to pay 600$.

Wii is the perfect price, thats all there is too it. Wii will be fun sure, but critics are calling it a supped-up gamecube. Doesn't mean it'll suck, it just means that if you want something better you have to dish out the money for it. And people will. I'm sure there will be s shortage of ps3's, im sure it'll be hard to get one before february or march.

I cant wait to get on my Wii, i can wait for PS3, i think we've waited long enough so whats a little more for either a price drop or until i have the money. I've been reading alot of Nitendo articles lately that are still really Gung-ho for it, but are still very skepticle. Saying things like Nitendo has let us down before, will it do it again? About mario not being on laucnh, and online games possibly not available until 2007... How the launch games are basically identical to when the n64 launched, and that failed to compete with the ps2.

This is actually a pretty good article:
    http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Sto...1324.09291.htm

I'm looking forward to both, and judging by how many units will be shipped and the price difference, i'll have a wii first. You can bet i'll have a ps3 sooner or later, i just dont feel like standing in lines at 4am for it. I am excited for both probably equally. Other than a few flaws i think that both have, that each one makes up for the other with, they are gonna be 2 really good consoles.

    QFT

But I got a question for all you Wii fans why do you want a system that isn't much better then the gamecube? The graphics aren't going to be much better and Zelda from what Nintendo has said will be released on both the Wii and the Gamecube. So whats so appealing about it? Playing old games? If you wanted to play N64 games get an N64 for $20 and games for 5 dollars each, why pay for a new console? No online games yet so someone tell me if the only reason people are getting is Wii is for Zelda and Metroid correct?

If you read the article i posted, he says pretty much exactly that.

People bought N64 for this and this, causing it to fail. He relates the launch titles for N64 and Gamecube to Wii's and how they are similar, and might not measure up.

People by the Wii for the same reason people buy PS3s.

    Wii has Zelda and Mario.
    PS3 has FF and GTA.

Too bad GTA4 is released on Xbox360 at the same time it is released for PS3. Mistwalker will be making FF type games for 360 as well (if you saw the other thread on Lost Odyssey). PS3 has very little to no exclusive shit worth talking about. Even the MGS series was released later on Xbox.

Wii has first party titles, which is what matters to Nintendo. Wii will do fine regardless of how good the 3rd party games are. MS and Sony are more reliant on 3rd party software, because most of their first party shit sucks ass.

If you read the article, it points out how exclusive n64 and gamecube games were ported to ps2 after 2-3months of release. First party for Wii means nothing if nitendo is the same old nitendo.
