What is the most reliable way to tell how many people play..

Is there some website out there that lists how many people play certain types of games? I'm specifically trying to find out how many people play WoW vs. other MMORPG's. Or what ranking it has vs. other games. ORRRR what percentage of people play MMORPG's vs. other games.

I need it to be as up to date and accurate as possible. Any idea where I could this info?? Trying to put some numbers in an article I'm doing.

    http://www.mmogchart.com/

    gives mmorpg vs. mmorpg numbers.

I don't know of any reference that compares mmorpg versus other games, that's probably a statistic you have to research yourself (wouldn't be too hard).

I'd really like it if they split up NA, EU, and Asia WoW up. Its impossible to read that chart without getting rid of it completely.

Anyway, I remember people telling me CoH/V was above FFXI, doesn't seem to be the case.

When I saw a pic of RS, I was a bit shocked that it's doing better than FF, but considering that you can apparently play it for free, it's not so surprising.
Seems like a solid game despite the graphic quality.

Being the 5th most popular MMO isn't so bad, just be nice if the margin were a tad smaller.

    Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ, 6.6 Million.
Is WoW really that much better?

Actually, what really surprised me was that RO isn't even on there, I enjoyed that game. :[

...My brother plays that because he's too stupid to know that he's wasting his time. I have a WoW account (that's still being paid for, despite not logging on in a LONG time) that I openly offered him, and he insists on playing RS...

    lol.

Runescape used to be kind of fun 4 years ago.

Then they implemented shit to combat against botters.

If you stand without making any movement after a minute, you're kicked off the server.

If you do any task more than a few times per few minutes (like cut down five trees a minute), a horribly high level monster spontaneously appears and rapes you.

Things kind of became shitty after that.

    Korea actually.

If you removed Korea from those polls FFXI would very likely be sitting in the number 2 spot, of course still a good ways behind WoW.

What I wouldn't give to see Vrtra spawn on Djklsusk after his 36th hour at Friar Rush.

Seriously. The sheer number of Korean MMOs, and therefore the number of Koreans playing MMOs to keep that many afloat, just blows my mind.

build the kind of consumer internet infrastructure that's anywhere near what South Korea provides and you'll see the U.S. get just as crazy about online games.

    Holy shit...
Is that seriously for real? o.O I had always assumed that the WoW playerbase was just about as big as FFXI's, but hot damn that's a ton more people. A good 10x the amount of players. Do they have 10x as many servers or is it all 10x as crowded?

    It's like 6x the servers
The world is 10x bigger, so people are more spread out and you don't notice it as much

It's more laggy to me in a way... like in FFXI Aery is laggy because of all the graphics and shit. In WoW my machine doesn't lag but people just warp around more, it's more connection based but at least it doesn't slow down your character.
