    Astral Projection

Ive been reading alot about this subject. I'm looking for people who have acually experenced, and or knows anything about this. Is this real? What did you experence? I am wanting to try but some of the storys I have heard have absolutly scared me to the bone about trying it.

One story that I have heard from every - single - person has always started off like this:

It starts off as a little ball [like a rubber ball] bouncing down a stair case, it turns into a gnome, then gnome is as happy as possible, and then it turns into a insaine looking clown with pure red eyes. I have heard this from about 5 people. Non of them having contact with eachother.

Give me some input, do you beleave its real?

edit: alot alot alot more detail.

I already did that, didn't see much about happy gnomes and evil red-eyed clowns though.

You havnt been reading about it then, dont click on a website and scan, acually read if u are interested at all about what I am talking about

    http://www.jonasridgeway.com/

Try this website. Its pritty much an OBE [ Out of body experence ] that you can trigger. It takes you to the "Astrial Plane" were you have all of your sences, you can feel, smell, taste, see, hear, everything. How ever, like I said, the gnome experence has happand more then once. tho I have heard other storys that are good [like flying thru a city etc]

Hmm, interesting. I'm all about meditation as it's like the most relaxing thing, I'll have to give this a shot. That last link you posted isn't working for me, maybe the site is having troubles.

Here's my input. It's not real. People want to believe there is more to life than living, dying, and all the bullshit in between. They come up with ideas about spirituality and a higher purpose to give this fleeting moment of life some sort of meaning. They want to believe there is more than what you see, some sort of spirit energy you can control. What's the magic ingredient though? You have to believe! Do you believe in magic!

The site you linked to said the first step is not only believing, but DESIRING it and THINKING about it ALL DAY. If you think about something all day, a lot of people's sub-conscience will incorporate it in their dreams one way or another. This doesn't happen for all people probably, but for those that it does, they can have a so-called "OBE" if they concentrate on it hard enough all day, all the while reading about it and all those wonderful tips found on the site.

The sub-conscience is a powerful thing, so powerful that it can make a dream feel so real and vivid that you think it's something other than a dream.

P.S. If I play too much FFXI all day, I have FFXI related dreams, must be me EXPing out of body.

In astral projection you remain attached to your physical body by a silver "umbilical type" cord. Some people see the cord and others do not.

You are aware of things you encounter along the way while out of your body.

To astral project, as with all out-of-body experiences - one must feel totally relaxed, clothing fitting comfortable, reclining is best. Often a comforter is best over the body as the physical body sometimes gets cold when you travel out.

    1.1 WHAT IS LUCID DREAMING?

Lucid dreaming means dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming. The term was coined by Frederik van Eeden who used the word "lucid" in the sense of mental clarity. Lucidity usually begins in the midst of a dream when the dreamer realizes that the experience is not occurring in physical reality, but is a dream. Often this realization is triggered by the dreamer noticing some impossible or unlikely occurrence in the dream, such as flying or meeting the deceased. Sometimes people become lucid without noticing any particular clue in the dream; they just suddenly realize they are in a dream. A minority of lucid dreams (according to the research of LaBerge and colleagues, about 10 percent) are the result of returning to REM (dreaming) sleep directly from an awakening with unbroken reflective consciousness.

The basic definition of lucid dreaming requires nothing more than becoming aware that you are dreaming. However, the quality of lucidity can vary greatly. When lucidity is at a high level, you are aware that everything experienced in the dream is occurring in your mind, that there is no real danger, and that you are asleep in bed and will awaken shortly. With low-level lucidity you may be aware to a certain extent that you are dreaming, perhaps enough to fly or alter what you are doing, but not enough to realize that the people are dream representations, or that you can suffer no physical damage, or that you are actually in bed.
I've actually had this happen to me a few years ago.
In my dream I was in some Victorian Times padded cell/prison, then all of a sudden I had a consious and knew what I was doing, and I knew exactly where I was, that I was in a dream, and I could do anything, and I actually did all this fun stuff like first making the door to the cell dissapear, then making everything on the table outside it levitate/fly etc. Shortly after that I woke up, but that dream is still very vivid in my memories.

I always wish it happens again but it hasnt

The best way to describe the feeling of it, was imagine you somehow tied a gameshark into the real world and you altered anything you wished.

It's entirely possible that part of the dream was me thinking I had total control over everything, but I beleive personally I did become consious in the dream and took over.

I love mysteries of life, dreams pwn :D

I have dreams at least a couple times a month where all of the sudden I realize I'm dreaming. But instead of doing what I want like you did, Wafik, I usually panic in my dream and am scared that I won't be able to wake up.

that ALWAYS happens when I dream anymore (not very often)
Usually the dream bores me and I just end up jumping off a building to make it stop

Lucid dreams are few and far between, but I have had them, and I do remember them vividly like Wafik. They're incredibly fun, probably the closest thing to ultimate virtual reality gaming. 8)

Nah truth be told, I had some friends that got me to do it, and it is really wierd. I wouldn't do it again because of the uncomfortable feelings afterwards, I'm not really a 'meditator' I guess.

So... every astral projector person sees a little ball that turns into a gnome that turns into an evil clown, or was that just an example?

The rest of the thread made more sense than the OP.

I think that "Astral Projection" is just a different form of Lucid Dreaming. I have experienced both, and they are very, very different. I do not believe that you go out of your body, although it certainly feels like it. On the occasions I have experienced it, it generally goes in 4 phases.

Phase 1- the red. It looks like the room is being lit by a red light, and feels like a presence (often times malevolent) is in the room. I am unable to move, and it feels like gravity is 100x stronger than usual. It generally ends with the feeling of being pushed out of my body.

Phase 2- the black. The feeling of being separated from the body in complete darkness. Feels like being in a cocoon and also totally awake. (The red still has some dream qualities to it.)

Phase 3- the rushing. I hear what sounds like rushing water, then it feels like being thrown around by said rushing water. Generally a very short phase that always leads to the last.

Phase 4- the blue. Freedom. I think every time I have reached this point I have had wings. It is almost like being in outer space with no gravity and billions of stars as far as the eye can see. (There is a slight blue tint instead of total blackness, thus the name.) It is fun flying very fast.

For me, starting at phase 1 does not mean that I will go to phase 4, generally I will get stuck in phase 2. (Although every time I have gotten to phase 3 I have always wound up in phase 4.) I do not apply some sort of psychic or spiritual significance to it; it is just another altered state of consciousness. (And no, there are no drugs involved. I have never abused substances.) From Phase 2 on I feel totally awake, although I can snap out of it at any second if I am not careful about how I think. When I was younger it was very scary, but when I started to understand it, it became totally fun.

Many scientists believe that people who report alien abductions are actually in this particular altered state, along with people who experience incubi or succubus.

Oh, and lucid dreams totally kick ass. I love to teleport things, disassemble matter at an atomic level, move buildings, so on and so forth. It is kind of what I imagine it would be like to have the Phoenix Force... Sigh.

kinda the same with me. I used to have recurring dreams of jumping from hieghts and waking up mid fall. It started when i was little, my dream would be me standing at the top of a staircase jumping down into darkness, and i'd wake up with butterfly's in my stomache.

Then it turned into just a way to wake up. Building? Im goin for it.

I want to do this. I've never actually controlled a dream that I can remember though. I've heard that being able to control your dreams is an indicator of your genius level. That if you can control your dreams you are intelligent, but if you can remember your dreams you are even more intelligent.

I hardly remember my dreams, let's be honest, most of us don't.

I would be very interested to hear an actual account of a OBE though and not bullshit that's made up. I would love to try this, it's very intriguing. From now on I think I will get closer and closer to achieving lucid dreaming now that I know what it's called and now that I know how it works and what it's like. I knew since I was a kid certain people could do this though. I remember my mom getting angry with me one day because she said I was lying when I said I couldn't control my dreams. My mom is an extremely intelligent person, she has a high school diploma and that's it, yet she's the VP of the largest investment corporation in the world (or is it the third largest?). Anyway, I guess lucid dreaming was so natural for her, because of her genius, that it was hard to understand why anyone else, or her child for that matter, couldn't achieve it. I guess I'm a dissapointment

People dream differently because our brains are wired differently. Like I was amazed to find out that people are not supposed to be able to read in dreams because I am able to read things. (Newspapers, books, linkshell chat.) Some people supposedly dream in black and white, but that's just weird.
