What color was your chocobo?

Those aren't male and female. I thought all the chocobos in game were the type you guys are referring to as "females". The type you are referring to as "males" are the sharp beak/long clawed chocobo types. Which aren't even in the game yet. I haven't seen a picture of anyone with a "male" type chocobo, this is because they are not male/female simply, different pedigrees.

Apparently the different appearances in the same color are the not yet implemented differences based on attributes. If you look in modelviewer you can check them out. I'm guessing that by breeding and focusing on certain stats you'll be able to change the appearance of your chocobo (once they're in the game), and by finding chocobos that share the same physical characteristics you'll be able to breed one with a strong disposition to a certain attribute or ability. This might be how you'd attain the max level in certain stats.

Seems like physical traits are genetic. Might also explain why some birds with level 2 strength run slower than those with level 1.

When I saw that picture, I figured the way you could tell was the female wouldn't have as many feathers on the head. Right behind the first set, one doesn't have as many, the other has another set.

Posted this in the raising thread too, so in case you haven't been reading both...
The NPC you talk to that's next to Brutus says that the colors are dominant and recessive like eye color. Since yellow is dominant, anyone breeding with a yellow chocobo is going to be yellow, and the grandkids have a 50% chance of being black/blue. They're not sure how black + blue works.
