Hadnt looked at this thread in a while

So using a COR to enhance Summoners is awesome for things like dynamis. Using a COR as a Sweet 6th (I like that term; I will have to remember that) is good for exp parties. Subjob on Corsair is still up for debate, but they are flexible in between DD and Support.

So Corsair is usable in many situations, and can not only enhance parties, but can also fill in other roles when needed.

/RNG is good for acc bonus, and support + DD.
/BRD is good for pure support in a manaburn-type party.
/WHM is good for situational usage, where tossing out a Curaga or 2, maybe a Dia II before light shot can really make a difference.
/BLM is another situational, and the added MAB can make the Elemental Shots a leetle more powerful.
/RDM is a hybrid of the reasons of /BLM and /WHM.
/NIN seems to be another choice for exp parties, where the COR is dualweilding Archers, or merit parties with a joytoy and heartsnatcher. Maybe slug shot a little closer since the ranged attack un-nerf.

Wow. It seems like this job is really versatile, and can do many things really depending on what is needed. Cool!

Looks like SE did a good job in designing a job that can be used for many things, and will not just fit into a cookie-cutter role. I dont think COR should be directly compared to BRD any more then I think they should be compared directly to RNG.

Thank you for all the people that posted ideas and experiences with Corsair in exp, merit, and endgame. Now if only they would work on upgrading PUP a bit.

(Random PUP thought) I think it would be nice if they gave the maton more frames, a dispel or erase, the ability to make light with the PUP, and something else to make them unique. Imagine if they had a frame they could use Stun in, and with the proper attachments, have them set to Stun enemy TP moves. Methinks you would see more HNMLS' wanting a build of PUP at events to stun things like Gate of Hades.

    Just a thought....

Usually throw a COR into the SMN party on anything where SMN is our main form of damage, like wyrms. 2-5 mp/tic plus Beast Roll makes for some very unhappy mobs. So does ice-shotted triple-merited para II

sometimes people have problems dealing with Corsairs because they dont understand one basic principle:

unlike every other job, COR's performance depends strictly on the types of jobs it's placed together with. all alone, COR pretty much sucks.
unlike a Bard, COR can't switch to giving +Atk to +Acc at will; its place in alliance should be considered at start and it should be paired with those jobs whose Rolls you need.
you want melee ownage? place it with a WAR and a THF because you wont get much placing it in a NIN NIN SAM SAM RDM party.

if people don't get this, the job will always be looked in the wrong way, from those who expect it to be uber-powerful and ask for THF roll in a WAR DRK SAM party to those who thinks the job sucks because the Acc Bonus from RNG roll (without RNG) sucks compared to a BRD's.

    You win.

BTW...I've been doing COR/WHM in Manaburn Dynamis (so far have been in BLM party and 2 SMN parties)...the SMN party pairage seems to work out better.

Also participated and won Apoc Nigh as a COR/WHM last night...rolled for the party and acted as eraser/cure bomber. We can fit almost anywhere, but I think COR should be given more gear. There's almost nada. I saw they added a *few* mage pieces, but nothing that would dictate how to play the job.

    Wow.... so much misinformation.

    1. You have to land your Quick Draw AFTER the debuff. You can't enhance a debuff that isn't already in place. Quick Draw doesn't give a "status" of its own because it only increases another debuff. So if you QD before a debuff is in place, it only does damage.

    2. INT/MND do nothing for COR. Zip, Zero, Zilch, NADA. It does not increasse QD damage. It doesn't help with QD resist damage. MAB, Bullet DMG, and Gun DMG are the only ways to boost QD damage (and "enhance QD" gear obviously).

    3. B skill can land on HNM with good accuracy gear. They don't do awesome damage, but very very often... it isn't about the damage the weapons are doing, but the SC they create which allows for higher MB damage.

Before the nerf-adjustment, I went to sea on my COR and fought Justice as COR/RNG. I had probably 90% accuracy. I was VERY surprised how high my accuracy was. Now... my damage sucked. That's no question. Though Justice spams magic and physical defense. I landed slug shot every time from 150-200.

I went to sky on COR/RNG and did about the same on trigger NM's like Faust as I did on Justice. We didn't fight any gods that day so... no experience there really. Accuracy wasn't an issue, it's just doing any real damage.

I've done Fafnir a few times on COR. Earth Shot.... is... awesome. Elegy + Slow II + Earth Shot. hahaha It was RIDICULOUS how slow Fafnir was. Earth Shot also enhances Ltng. Threnody >.> which means you get an increase "resist thunder down" effect for fewer resists.

My real issue is when SMN's are most useful, I have SMN at 75 too. So, do I go COR75 to boost the other SMN's performance, or go SMN75 and do my own damage. The way I see it, if we don't have 5 SMN, it isn't worth losing a SMN to put in a COR. If there are 5 SMN (without me), then it is. Assuming about 150 more damage per BP, that's 750 damage total added from the COR compared to another 500 damage from a 6th SMN.

PS: Virtually ALL of my end-game COR experience was pre-adjustment. So, if anything there's even more reason for COR to be viable endgame.

Earth shot doesn't do anything with slow 2. You can test this yourself in ballista if you don't wanna believe me. Based on the original cor thread it doesn't do anything for elegy either.

Based on the precedent that slow 2 and earth shot does nothing I'd guess para 2 similarly doesn't mix. It's funny how people are citing these amazing differences though. The power of placebo.

<COR> I wonder how BST roll is gonna be.. (leader just invited a BST and we already had a SMN. Besieged party)
<SMN> oh it's very powerful, i tried it at Ouryu Cometh.
<COR> really? you had a BST there?
<SMN> well, no.. we didnt have a BST.

isn't that kind of backwards? a NIN buys DD gear to DD, tanking gear to tank. what you're doing with the job should dictate what gear you use, not the other way around.

It should be noted though, it seems to have an effect on the proc rate of add'l effects of that element. With Ice Shot active, a friend of mine was reliably landing Acid Bolts on Jailer of Love a few weeks ago, and lands them fairly easily on tu'lia gods, including Kirin.

I think it's a little bit of both.

I think SE didn't intend for COR to use any magic at all, which is why we didn't see many magic pieces available to COR for the last 6 months.

But again, people proved SE wrong and showed that COR was useful in several applications where they were subbing a mage job so they added some more gear that COR can wear.

Just so you are aware, in the latest patch SE introduced a 50's set of armor that COR can wear called Silken Armor (Magi is HQ) where each piece adds some HP + MP. I picked up 2 pieces last night...the body and legs. Right now, on Asura at least, it's cheaper to just pick up any level 30 RSE you can that has more MP than the Silken pieces. I didn't bother buying the hat because Walahra turban has haste + 30mp/hp.

How'd norelco do? i've wanted in manaburn for the longest, he's not the only remedy member with 75 cor
fit into the role of a bard, just without sleeps, cor/whm with mp build and erasing/curing/status effects. Didnt get to test him out in Xarca, he missed that one.
Yeah, sorry about that. I was pretty pissed when Friday night rolled around and I was still out of power. Hell, I still am out of power 4 days later. Pretty messed up though that my office, which is only a mile away from my apartment, has both power and internet.

Over 300k people were without power as of Friday. Only about 100k got their power back so far.
