I've never seen a Card Shot miss. Hell, I was landing them on Level 5 Besieged mobs at level 40, and once or twice it even landed full unresisted.

Why not? You can get 2 + 2 rolls off before the first one starts to wear off again...if you're in a party with say 5 SMN you can easily give them refresh + pet attack and still have plenty of time to give yourself hunters roll + chaos roll if you were so inclined.
"that many" key words. my COR is level 1 so i obviously don't know exactly how it plays. but i imagine doing that while running around in Xarcabard chasing after the BLMs (when they are even smart enough to stand in a group). than running back in range to shoot at the mobs sound like a real pain in the rear.

is that even worth it when you can have Summoner's Roll on all the time and help Cure slept people or Erase after Hecatomb Wave?

also high evasion isn't the only problem, high defense is too. doesn't Chaos Roll suck?

i don't know why that would an invalid question. a big use of CORs as discussed in this thread is in the BLM and SMN PTs, how well supported would they be for Ranged Attacks in those situations? they're certainly not going to see many BRDs in the same PT giving them Minuet. they're not even going to get that many Rolls supporting themselves.
    Prelude is single target, right?

I fought various HNMs and Dynamis mobs with an unmeritted Great Sword. Caps at 256 iirc. With Sushi and decent(decent, not HQ) equips, you can hit almost anything. No doubt in my mind a COR can't land reliably in addition to buffing. And if this is a dedicated COR, they should have some meritted Marksmanship too.

ya card shots cant miss.. they can get resisted to petty amounts though

reason why i havnt gone /melee to anything is cause im still not at 75, though i'd love to get a chance to go /rng on kirin..... nynja listed some basic(yet excellent) gear that pretty much everyone can get their hands on ...

i believe cor does have a place as minor damage dealer in big fights, but its something i'll have to try and play around with for myself

Chaos Roll is the only other roll I would bother with if I was rolling myself to shoot at a mob. In terms of running back and forth, that's pretty much all COR does in a merit/xp party...but I guess in a Dynamis with a bunch more people around it could become confusing and start to suck.

The range on rolls is shorter than brd songs, but you wouldn't have to move too far away.

I'm pretty certain I saw Vinto's card shot miss in D-Bastok. Maybe it was blinked or PD ate it or something.

Really, it's OK to admit that subjob choice can be situational, people. If for some reason a BLM party can't keep themselves healed, come /WHM. If everything's fine on the healing front, hey, come /RNG or /NIN. I'd like to think that mob TP wouldn't really be an issue against COR if you have any DDs meleeing since they get the most TP back per hit, but whatever, if that's another issue, come /WHM.

A good COR will have a couple subs leveled.

Tell me what other roll you would give yourself besides Hunters Roll if you were buffing yourself to shoot at a mob...I can think of two. Chaos, and maybe Samurai Roll.

    Edit: And Rogue's... :D

It's not like RNG are used for anything other than checking for Zipacna and Shadowbinding Seiryu. Will a COR/RNG's rolls over the party make up for the reduced damage they'll do (and/or greater damage they'll take) compared to a ranger who can sub something useful like WAR or NIN?

Get rangers that spend gil and you will use them for more than just that.

i was going down the line of thought of CORs buff the mage PT a lot better than a BRD does, so take the BRDs you have and put them with the tanks/melees. in that case the chances of having a COR + BRD in the BLM, SMN PT would be slim. a COR won't be getting Prelude because the BRDs will be in other PTs, not because of single target vs AOE.

because Great Sword and Marksmanship is the same? because Great Sword suffers from the Ranged Attack nerf?

i'm sure it'll still hit some, a RDM meleeing with sushi will hit some too, just trying to figure out where the line is drawn between useful damage and stubborn "i want to DD just because ..." damage.

i don't think it's a stylistic choice as much as it's a situational choice. the harder the mob the lower the benefit of COR damage, the higher the benefit of support healing/status cures that can't miss. the easier the mob, the more beneficial it becomes to use it as a part-time DD.

i'm not anti-COR, i'm just trying to find the most optimal ways to utilize them. and i doubt COR/RNG is always optimal.

COR for endgame for me has WHM sub and plays bard with guns with MP gear, Im working on crimson gear atm because its MPrific and adds mnd/int which will allow for my shots and heals to work better
I carry my hat with me for quickdraws and thats about it, as a melee DD, cor is only good in exp pts where someone who has a r-weapon of not 10 billion can pull.

but Ive got a golden shotgun byahhhhh

Wow. Pretty good input for a question on a first post. That, and only minimal derailment :D

So far, I have learned a few things.

    1. It is a good thing I am used to playing a support job, and have many subjobs leveled.

    2. Flux seems to hate COR, and keep comparing it to a Bard.

    3. Lots of rolls are quite situational (I already knew that, but worth restating).

This is the part I kinda get unclear on.

    4. Even though rolls are 60 seconds apart, the majority of the forum (only a few who have mentioned they are doing this as their COR {Thanks Sonomaa!}) believe that COR is better suited with a mage sub, changing out r.acc for MP+ gear, and healing/curing.

Sure, I can see how a heal here and there can help, but at least where I sit in exp parties, when I get a decent roll (Lucky/Perfect) I have plenty of time to get shots in to TP with the PUP in my exp party.

Side Note: PUP-haters, or those who love to say lolpup are welcome to ask for parses of our bi-weekly exp session. It may also surpise you to know that we have made use of a BLU/WAR tank, even up to the 50s. But that is a topic for a different thread

I am not beyond coming to an event based upon what they need me as. Most of the time, I end up as RDM in sky (BLM very rarely). I think my question was more a matter of seeing if there was more to do then just run around buffing, like maybe getting a chance to get a shot or few in.

That, and how are the several hundred Quick Draw shots done? Max I saw was an Earth Shot on a beetle for 180ish (level 48), but all elemental shots (I prefer Light to enhance Dia and Requiem) do 155 unresisted with Trump Gun and Moldy macro'd in.

Is the AF hat really that good for Quick Draw?

actually COR has still troubles going as a support DD to those main HNM events...

but it still misses some JSE pieces, an endgame Hexagun (and maybe bullets), AF+1 and AF2. looking at the AF stats, I'm pretty sure SE intention still is to have Corsair buffing and supporting with bullets.
just wait till the next update, because imho CORs and PUPs still miss 60+ gear

ranged accuracy is much different than melee accuracy now. you can wear all acc gear and eat acc food and hardly even miss a melee swing... while you can wear all ranged acc gear, eat sushi stand up the mobs ass and miss a lot (especially on ws's)

I agree. I feel SE has yet to introduce a solid endgame Hexagun. They advertised Corsair's using them as such, but there's only the Trump Gun and the Hexagun.

Most COR I check on my server opt for a Shark Gun if they have the IS and rank, or a Coffinmaker.

I prefer Hexagun...I guess people like to see big numbers when they shoot, but the lower delay on the Hexagun really evens the playing field in my opinion.

I usually end up meriting with wars so we tend to get the war roll and the thf roll. Can't say the war roll really helps me out as much as the wars since I already have triple att and brutal. But good lord the thf roll and it's crit bonus is insane.

Obviously, I haven't had much experience with it when a thf isnt in the pt but it's like a 15% straight increase in crit rate. Swinging as fast as a thf/nin does with lots of haste and critting 25% is quite nice.

Hell yeah. My ideal "burn" party would be NIN/WAR, WAR/NIN, THF/NIN, BRD, COR, RDM

That way you get the bonus on both Fighter's Roll and Rogue's Roll...and when you roll that 11 on Rogue's with a THF in the party it's like Mighty Strikes.
