The chance of it is better than soul voice on DL, at least IMO. Plus even if it doesn't work, an extra souleater (which between 2h and Random Deal is virtually guaranteed) is great. Plus crits destroy him, and rogues roll really is no small thing. Plus...see where I'm going here?Originally Posted by layoneil

We have a BRD for every party for DL. While the BLMs take care of vanguard dragons and ying/yang, people switch to the best DL jobs they have. Fact is, I'd rather have a COR personally for DL than a BRD.Originally Posted by layoneil

The biggest problem with arguing COR vs BRD is that its basically the same argument as DRK vs WAR. Yeah they are DD, but they aren't quite the same DD. COR is great for a summoner party in an HNM alliance because #1, evoker's roll is almost always going to be an adequate, if not good tick of MP and #2, COR has pet-related buffs that can help the summoner to deal some extra damage.
Exp wise, COR actually functions best when paired with another support job. In my experience RDM+COR seems to function well. I've had some parties with COR+BRD and they seem to do alright as well. However COR+WHM as the only 2 support/mage classes doesn't seem to do as well. Its simply because COR isn't a full-fledged support class, its a hybrid Support/DD, and thus shouldn't be so closely compared with BRD.
COR's buffs are very party-oriented. BRDs will slap accuracy and attack onto just about any DD. A COR is looking at what buffs will function best for what set up. A party with a THF in it, and Rogue's roll, is an absolutely incredible crit machine. I've had players in my linkshell speechless, they'd crit more than they'd hit normal attacks. Hell I've hit 3 critical ranged attacks in a row. The double attack with a warrior is also pretty ridiculous.
My personal favorite, is when people dismiss Chaos Roll at high level. Chaos roll with a DRK in the party can grant a possible 60-100 attack to party members depending on member's base attack and the number hit on the roll.
SE Isn't yet finished with the new jobs, either. I expect there will be other things added to COR to make them more worthy of end-game job roles. Right now though, I'm pretty comfortable with what I can bring to an alliance on HNM.
heaven forbid people like flux accepting cor and bard can both function together in the same party

for pretty much everything.
Double bards is hot, double minuet, or double march, or both, or with one madrigal. It's incredible and consistent.
The critical hit rate is really nice for me, and the attack bonus is alright, but I'm more inclined to take the buffs I know will be there all the time. I specifically gear around them. Maybe someday there will be a Corsair that sways me, but there aren't enough out there now.
My last few parties have been double bard only on my thf/war, dagger is broken beyong beleif in these types of parties.Originally Posted by FFXIFlux
Right, but you realise you are arguing for having a party with 2 bards or a party with brd/cor - both of which are fairly rare occurences for most people at endgame merits. And, let's not even discuss trying to get 2 bard into the melee pt for an HNM...
After that 8 minute kirin video, I dont know why LS's wouldnt wanna take the bards away from the blm pts and put them to good use.Originally Posted by draxyl
Because some LS leaders are scared of melee parties on HNMIn some respects they have a right to be scared, because you don't want to blow the opportunity to kill the HNM...so they fall back on the tried and true slow & steady methods. Still, I'd rather try new stuff and melee the crap out of things (I'm looking at you kirin & fafhogg).
That, and I know in my LS we just don't seem to have the bard army we used to. Every bard in the LS has other jobs leveled, and usually end up bringing the other job(s) to camps or HNM events. More of a recruitement problem for us I guess...just saying its hard to get enough bards sometimes.
We don't have problems but we're an old linkshell. If I were to guess that 1/4 of our active members has BRD 75 or is leveling it now then I probably wouldn't be far off, and I might even be low. Once you've leveled with BRD, you make sure all your statics have one from then on.Originally Posted by draxyl

XI + Job = absolutely broken. 5mp/tick refresh is something you can't beat.
Lucky + Job OR XI = really effective buff. again, the Evoker's example works well in explaining this, with its 4mp/tick refresh.
Lucky OR average + Job = useful buff. 3mp/tick weee
average = quite ineffective buff, you wont even notice that much.
currently, the only way to make COR useful is to match the desidered effects with the proper jobs. for ex, a BLM BLM BLM RDM SMN COR is really effective. also, WAR THF DD DD BRD COR works nice.
toss the COR in the first party avaiable and you will get nothing but a gimped supporter.
again, we still miss AF+1 and, most importantly, AF2 and JSE.
thats the point of this thread.... to try new things... unfortunatly certain people(not just in this thread) have it set in their mentality that trying new things = wrong and will never workOriginally Posted by draxyl
they're also the same people who when given concrete proof of when something new turns out to be as good or better than what exists now, will probably be the first to jump the bandwagon and go along with it
I've hard 3 COR, 2 COR and 1 COR parties. I've had 1 BRD and 2 BRD parties. I've had 1 COR + 1 BRD parties. I've had 2 COR + 1 BRD parties. I've tried it. BRD > COR. Maybe tier 2 merits, some new rolls and tighter AF2 chinos and some elegy, finale and lullabye bullets will push things closer to parity (but it's doubtful because BRD is a very powerful class). Until then, enjoy your pirate costume, and have a nice day, matey.Originally Posted by safer

You didn't try BRD BRD COR, Flux.
FUCK! Guess I've been talking out my ass this whole time then, COR might still be uber with that party setup.Originally Posted by Shinryuu
