I have no problems with my card. Keep in mind, driver level AA does not work at all so you're not gonna see anything happen there. AF & mip-map work fine, though mip-map you're gonna have to regedit in order to see anything noticable (default is really, really low).
I should clarify what I said earlier. When I mentioned that AA&AF&Mipmapping settings were broken for me, I meant in other games that actually make use of it, not FFXI.

I think if you look up troubleshooting on ATI's tech support site, they still list the issue of installing only 2.0 versus installing 1.1 -> 2.0.

This is one major reason why Microsoft still gives you the option to even install 1.1 before installing 2.0 on Windows Update, because ATI CCC isn't the only .NET application that's been reported to have this issue.

Happened for me on 3 seperate systems now, hence why I suggested that OP should take a look at it.

well I can also report I have no such AA, AF, mip-map problems with other games either (FEAR, CoH, HoMM5, Gal Civ, Lineage 2).

Thanks for the input everyone. I've tried all of the above and know that I do have .NET 2.0 properly installed on my PC. AF works fine in Oblivion so I know that's working (and it does, but the AF distance is very, very short compared to my old, crappy nVidia 5900 card).

And yes, I've changed the mip-map settings in the registry numerous times. Oddly enough, the game seems to look better with the base (3) registry setting, at 5 things get very pixilated all over the place regardless of forced AF and at 6 or higher shadows are all messed up.

Guess I'm stuck with this problem so long as I have an ATi card.

you sure you're changing the right thing? mip-map is 1 by default

Not sure which registry you're refering to for mip-mapping, for FFXI I thought it was on/off. For ATI you can change it in the catalyst control panel and it does make a huge difference between quality and performance, performance looks grainy and really shitty and for FFXI seems slower.

in the FFXI config panel, you can set mip-mapping for on (1) or off (0). in the registry however, you can set this higher (mines at 3) so that you can actually notice the effects of mip-mapping. iirc, key 0000 controls the mip-map.
