So true and well said, thanksoverclocking your CPU can't cause "speed hacking", because overclocking is basically upgrading your CPU, except of instead of buying a new chip, you're just changing the clockspeed (multiplier/FSB) to those of an upgraded chip
FFXI doesn't know the difference between going from an Athlon XP 2500+ (11.0 x 166Mhz) to a 3200+ (11.0 * 200mhz). all you'd be doing is increasing your bus speed, which is what your motherboard would do automatically if you popped in a 3200+ athlon XP
same with increasing your videocards GPU/Ram speeds, except it's slightly different because whereas Windows will actually detect your CPU as a different model solely based on it's clock speed, it requires an actual bios flash for it to see your Videocard as something else (i.e. the old 9800 non-pro to Pro bios upgrade, which changed the GPU & Ram speeds in the cards bios, which causes windows to recognize it as a 9800 Pro)
anyways, overclocking doesn't create a situation where your movement speed would increase, it's just not gonna happen, people who have this problem (whether they are or aren't overclocking) is having a problem outside the scope of simple CPU/GPU clockspeeds
this isn't the 386/486 DX days where software ran at absurd speeds because you were running your shit at a speed that at the time, wasn't even possible without doing massive changes to your hardware
well duh on the overclocking from within windows, anyone that does that is stupid to begin with, your gonna have nothing but problems with everything, and thats if windows will run right at all
and i really dont know about ffxi having direct hardware access, i was always under the assumption thats what things like directx and such were for, they were a buffer between hardware and software allowing a greater compatibility, so each piece of software didnt have to know every single piece of hardware, your "buffer software" so to speak, had all that info, allowing greater compatibility
but still, i stand by my assesment that almost every single person that blames their "speed hack" on this, is actually speed hacking and looking for sympathy
was there a sonic ding involved?Originally Posted by Xiona

Directx is an API created by Microsoft. Developers use it to write programs that can access your computers hardware and make sure things runs in a state where everything is compatible. People use directx because 99.9% of all videocards out there now support it and has the features built into it already. The set of api's that microsoft provides allows you to control it. The reason, imho why OpenGL isn't as widely popular (even though ppl say it's faster!) is because the support isn't there like directx. When I was a kid, I remember having a talk with one of my friends and we had a conversation where I to date still agree with. With OpenGL, your support comes in the form of books. If you run into a problem, you need to read those books and if you're stuck you either go to another person who can help you out or you're fucked.i was always under the assumption thats what things like directx and such were for, they were a buffer between hardware and software allowing a greater compatibility, so each piece of software didnt have to know every single piece of hardware, your "buffer software" so to speak, had all that info, allowing greater compatibility
With Microsoft, it's a lot different. You have books, other developers and a support line. OpenGL also isn't developed like directx so that's another benefit.
Final Fantasy XI uses Dirextx 8, still think it has no access to your hardware? lol.
There also is no such thing as "buffer". You either have access or you don't. You can have limited access or full access.
FREE YOUR MIND NEO! You need to be a lot more open minded.but still, i stand by my assesment that almost every single person that blames their "speed hack" on this, is actually speed hacking and looking for sympathy
lol, think of it like thisFREE YOUR MIND NEO! You need to be a lot more open minded.
nm gets claimed by random guy 2
<random guy 1> YOU BOT CLAIMED THAT
<random guy 2> nuh uh, im on ps2, how can i bot
lol, the other day, im camping fuma khyan (sp), i claim and kill, AS SOON as it dies, i see somebody appear out of nowhere directly on the dead mob, then runs aroudn the corner and disappears, i run straight to okotes area, where suprise suprise, he is already camping lol, of course he said he is on ps2![]()

overall, I just hope i cleared things up for you.
Not exactly on topic, but my frame rate drops way down when I have shadows turned on in a very busy area, say like a faf or kb where there's 200 ppl on my screen. The solution for me thus far is: turn off shadows at these camps. I know that FFXI is not optimal code.
But I also know ppl who get better framerates with ATI card, which has me concerned since I have very good hardware. Any ideas are appreciated!
2.66 Pentium 4 805 D (running at 3.6Ghz, had it up to 4.1 stable)
This chip is notable for its very over-clockable 20x multiplier and it's a dual core.
Asus PWD5-E Premium
Asus GeForce 7900 GTX 512
2 gig OCZ 800mhz
on topic:
btw, with 1Ghz over-clocked CPU, i do not run faster than normal in FFXI

no i didnt. my question is about framerates, not movement speed. please read carefully >.<
there is a program called speeder xp while not a hack does what your talking about. it works on any aplication or game on your PC. i used to use it on counterstrike but leaving it on will lock up your PC after a while. its very easy to find with google and i think there are other programs out there like it if you search around. o.O

FF11 for PC hasn't gotten a face lift since it came out. The engine is old and based on the PS2. They haven't optimized jack shit to make the game take advantage of the new hardware, mainly because they don't have the resources or want to dedicate themselves to it.
Cliff (the guy behind the windower for ff11) has said some interesting things about how final fantasy works. You should take a look at the stuff he writes to get a better understanding.
thanks
