I guess I was off with my "no one has really heard of" Godspeed You! Black Emperor comment. I'm surprised. But you gotta' excuse my angry comment earlier, 90% of my friends are musicians and the discussions(arguments) they get into about music tastes constantly makes me want to blow my brains out.

Seperated by genre which I won't attempt to title, some of stuff I pile onto my iPod and just hit shuffle are:

    Mogwai
    M83
    Godspeed You! Black Emperor
    Sigur Ros
    Tortoise
    The Rum Diary

    Metric
    Cat Power
    Rio Kily

    Ugly Casanova
    Modest Mouse
    Pinback
    The Arcade Fire

    I definitely agree.

With all the Modest Mouse fans floating around, I'm really surprised Casanova isn't on more people's playlists.

I like Jerry Cantrell's solo albums. Down and Corrosion of Conformity are also some of my favorites. Not indie trendy, but who cares.

Bands that put out CDs somewhat recently that I bought are Saves the Day and Unearth. Saves the Day's is surprisingly better than I expected it would be just due to the way that genre is going. Unearth's is good again but like the last CD they tend to make alot of their songs sound too alike.

edit: shameless plug lol. They're friends of mine and it's rap from 2 non-black non-thug guys who rap for fun but are pretty good. They get a decent amount of plays and they rarely play shows due to work/school/etc. So give em a listen, won't hurt you. My faves on there are Heart of Glass/Watch Out Now if you need to choose one. They were one of the very first "indie" bands. Just absolutely insanely awesome and talented. No two albums sound the same. You should check these guys out.

And I second Theo's opinion, Built to Spill is awesome.

There's a lot of good music here that I have never heard of before, nice work people, but keep them coming because I still need more.

Keep it like a secret is their best album imo.

Also another good band of this genre is No Knife. They broke up 2 years ago I think, but they are a very solid alternative/progressive band. Really chill music.

Fire in the City of Automatons is my fav album, but they are all great

Am I just old or are people listing indie-mega bands as 'underrated.'

Pavement?? Modest Mouse?? GY!BE?? I'm surprised no one has said Cursive or Bright Eyes yet.

I think Amarok was on the right track with A Silver Mt. Zion.

Anyways, I'll just add Matt Pond PA and M. Ward. If I get to add a holy shit you're living under a rock band, I'll add Neutral Milk Hotel.

Edit: Just found this on YouTube lol.. Conor Oberst and M. Ward doing a Ward song.. (but the whores give credit to Bright Eyes)

Another Edit: Matt Pond PA - So Much Trouble (An actual music video, didn't know they did that)

Well, I dunno. I don't read music magazines. And I'm talking about a "nowadays" and "in my own area" underrated. Just what I notice I guess.

I consider Godspeed You! Black Emperor underrated when 99% of the people I mention their name to goes "huh?"

Not to be cliche`, but when I mention Modest Mouse, I'm talking about Building Something Out Of Nothing and This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. Which tend to be overlooked by the average person buying their latest, overproduced album. (It was just a list of what I shuffle on my iPod, not my "these are all underrated bands list.")

P.S. Acronyms are for fat people!

If you like them then I'd reccomend some of Stephen Malkmus's stuff with the jicks.

gah >< thanks for trying, though. This album is gonna drive me nuts. Want it so bad and yet no one can sell it to me. No downloads for it, nothing. It's a mystery.

If anyone wants to try out Sigur Ros, I have one of their CDs. I don't remember the name of it because it's burned, and I've had it for a few years. But it's really good. :O
