Man. I was just getting all set to come on this thread and hype up Godspeed! You Black Emperor and A Silver Mt. Zion but y'all beat me to it.I'm really surprised. It seemed like the only person that was ever really into them was my old roommate in college.
Maybe I can post some pics of the shirts he made.. Either band is completely amazing though. I know I've heard some Explosions in the Sky but I can't place it atm, and Sigur Ros was nice but seemed to fade away. It was blamed on their new album as far as I know, but I haven't experienced it first hand really.![]()
I actually do like Dream Theater but I still think they're overrated thoOriginally Posted by Eternus

Has DT won a Grammy, been on MTV much if at all or had any radio play to mention? I can't see them as being overrated or underrated. The guitar, drums, keyboards and bass in that band is almost worlds better than what else is out there. DT gets their due, but they aren't exactly a multi-platinum, Grammy-whoring, overrated band.Originally Posted by Pancake

The only radio play that Drive-In got was on Radio K, 770AM, and only if you were within a half hour drive from the UofM in Minneapolis. I've only seen their videos on DVD, they've not been together for awhile, so limiting "new" music, and also, when the fuck did MTV start playing music videos? Let alone, not teenie-bop shit?
(Which is where I heard Murder City Devils, which I also like)
I've never heard Mars Volta on the radio here either,
In conclusion, I still stand by this, where I'm from MarsVolta (ATDI) are still underrated!
lol, the only airplay Dream Theater ever really got was 'Pull Me Under', released over 14 years ago now. I realise it's quite difficult to play Prog Metal on the radio or mainstream rock music channels, but seriously - they don't get enough recognition. They should be so well known by now, but you'd be surprised by how many people don't actually know of them.
weird al
lol.. reminds me of Kid Star Radio, zomg AM 1250. :OOriginally Posted by Ohemgee
Having talented musicians =\= making good music. Dream Theater is very boring to me. I do, however, like Liquid Tension Experiment. Anyway, some underated bands I think are:
Ondskapt
Vultyr
Krohm
Deathspell Omega
Torgeist
Drawn and Quartered
Graves At Sea
Deerhoof
Dungen
Sigur Ros
Nick Drake
Not a small band, but BT is probably unheard of anywhere.

- Mindless Self Indulegence
Nobody talks about them really and they are so fucking good. Thier live shows are untouchable ammounts of great also.
- Gregory and the Hawk
- The Hush Sound
- Cog
- Nevea Tears
Hell Yes. "Cocain and Toupees" off Frankenstein girls is such an awesome song.Originally Posted by Remembrance
Every single song from MSI is just like pure unadulterated mindfuck.. you have to be in a certain mindset to listen to thier music.
Typically a pissed off facebreak mood, like after work sitting in traffic, three or four days without sleep, or a bad acid trip works.
Just thought of a couple just now:
Air
Portishead(sp)
Massive Attack
Mr.Bungle
Fantomas
Secret Chiefs!!!
