I'm trying to build a PC for as little money as possible but still be able to run FF on it. Would it be neccesary to buy an Intel Proccesor or could i go with the AMD?

Hey Squirrels, you are pretty unclear on what you specifically want for your PC. Are you trying to have a PC to run FF with the less money spent? Or are you looking for a decent PC that also runs FF?
If you are looking for a PC for as little money as possible, I would suggest to buy a used one. Search the newspaper or some local used sites, even Ebay(if you live in the us) have pretty good deals.
My PC is not very modern and it does everything I need it to.
It's a:
P4 1.7ghz
533 FSB
1gig RAM
256meg AGP Vid card
As you can see, it's really outdatted but it plays FFXI like a charm and does everything I need. If you would loof for a PC like mine today, you could prolly find it less than 400$ easy.
an amd xp (not the 64 one) with a geforce 3 or 4, and 512 ram will run you like 100-150 bucks.
I can dig up some links if needed.
The new third-tier C2D Intel processor (on average) performs HIGHER than the top-of-the-line AMD FX-64, and is relatively cheap, whereas the AMD is not (although they did drop their prices after they found out they're getting raped).

2nd tier is only 200$ isnt it? maybe 3. And I think that still outpreforms AMD; the 1st tier is tied or below AMD, but only costs 150$
AMD ftw
Windows Vista should take advantage of the 64-bit AMD boards more. Intel has 64-bit coming out sometime in the near future as well. My Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz has a bus speed of 800 Mhz while the RAM in my AMD runs at 1Ghz lol. I can't wait until games take full advantage of 64-bit and SLI/Crossfire. AMD right now is superior at similar clock speeds to Intel.

Sorry AMD
so sad and true, but isnt it expensive? i assume it is, being a top of line intel and all.Originally Posted by Rafbacca

Im pretty sure there are 5 Duo Core tiers. The lowest is about 150$ and underpreforms AMDs best, the 2nd is 300$ and ties with AMD, the other teirs rise up and cap at 1k$ and they all well outpreform AMD.
This is from memory from about a month or so ago.
It isn't.Originally Posted by Andarvi

It doesn't really mean they are "king" as AMD of course will fire back with something redesigned another 12 months from now, but for the time being Intel is the most powerful and actually the most cost-effecient choice.
If you are choosing from last year's processor line then AMD is still the proper choice (yes i'm an intel fanboi too)
He did say as little money as possible. Really can't go wrong with either AMD or Intel actually. I like both of my systems, though I won't get a dual core when Intel has a 64-bit mobo coming out. Seriously why the fuck would I buy a new system that isn't 64-bit when Vista is going to fully support it with DX10 and the next generation of games.
