Isn't the chocobo whistle a lvl 60 item? That's not very low level.

The way I understood it was that even if retired, you can continue to ride your chocobo. If anyone has already retired a chocobo in order to raise a second I'm sure they can confirm this.

On the topic of when a chocobo receives stats/color I believe it will be from the instant the egg is dropped/put into your inventory. This makes sense to me because eggs created through the mating process can take on the stats of the parents, and gender depending on what honeymoon plan you choose.[/quote]

I read somewhere that each egg was supposedly unique and determined at least some of the properties of the choco-to-be.

So now, what about pre-version update eggs? Is that uncapped ISNM chocobo egg sitting in my Mog going to have the same potential for faster learning, more colors and variety of odd beak shapes as one obtained post-update? Should I toss it and go whack another Orobon to be safe?

    /twitch
Well, either stats are determined when you obtain the egg, or when you turn it in, or on the day when such stats are revealed. Hard to tell which, but I'm guessing its most likely all determined at the time you hand in your egg. i.e. gender, color, etc. are all set in stone on Day 1, and you just have to wait until Day 4 and 19 to find out what it is, even though it was already preordained from the day you turned in your egg. So if you turn in your egg a week before the update, but don't find out the color until Day 19 (after the update), you won't have a red or green chocobo.
I guess I was unclear. I meant, would an "old," pre-update, egg have the same potential as a shiny new post-update egg, if it were turned in after the update?

SE clearly said a choco-in-progress, i.e. one turned in before the update, will not develop the new colors and traits, so that much is not in question. I hope that makes sense.

You 'level up' your chocobo and as a chocobo breeder in general. Also, there is content to be explored. Until you unlock all the stories from all towns oranything else that is hidden in there, and have several chocobos you fufil your needs, you ain't done yet. I'm sure there will be titles added at some point also.

Sum up: It still hasn't been proven or disproven that a Max Speed, Max Endurance Choco is superior to a rental, but it can be assumed that whatever stats it has at the end of its raising cycle will be locked in when it retires, essentially forcing you to only handle recharging the whistle (a full charge of which might in fact be less than Chocos at peak times, fiik tho :X ).

Also, there's the X factor of Chocobo Racing.
Assuming you can race them after retirement, you could have it run and gain prizes for you for 0 cost.

wow, talk about gay and/or fucking jewish.

if you retire your chocobo, you lose all previous key items related to it. This INCLUDES any stories you unlocked. I dont know how the fuck retiring my chocobo causes me to forget / lose stories I learned, but if you got a new egg, you're literally starting from scratch.

Not to be a total flux, but they wave choco raising around for over a month, then delay it a month only to release a fucking choco raising beta, complete with essentially full wipe of what we've all done over the past month? Man, fuck choco breeding. I'm letting mine die off and not bothering with making another.

Next month when you restart again, it'll wipe everything you've done this month as well. It will always do that.

At least you do get to start off with a slightly more advanced chick via breeding this time around.

Welp, that just answered the question I had. I agree with you on this. If anything, getting a plaque certifying that you are a breeder should actually speed up the process should you choose to do it again. Can you say time/money sink?
