Does anyone know if FFXI is running properly on Windows Vista RC1 or any later builds?
or if there's a patched version of Vista RC1 that has the time expiration disabled?
edit: fastest derail ever
One post doesn't make a derail, people have to respond to it at least.Originally Posted by Reality

you have to start it a few times for vistas insane exe protecting system, but yes it runs fine
what do you mean "start it a few times" ? i've started Playonline about 5 times now and I'm getting this:Originally Posted by Sonomaa

Windows is checking for a solution to the problem.
and of course it never finds a solution
this is build 5600 (RC1) btw
edit: i guess i need the DVD Vana'diel collection disc, as the original POL that came with the RoZ set doesn't work with vista
3.99 gigs remaining -_-
Correct. You need the DVD edition of FF.
Taken from Windower.net:
I've gotten FFXI running under Windows Vista RC1 64-bit.
What you have to do is the following, and you need a backup of your PlayOnline directory from a fully patched machine before you start.
1) Install Vista, vid drivers, etc.
2) Install Playonline, FF from the DVD and ToAU expansion CD's. The autorun program won't start, you'll have to start each setup.exe manually.
3) Turn off UAP. I don't remember how.
4) Copy the old pol.exe overtop the new one (but not the associated .dll's), and run that to update POL.
5) Make a shortcut to POL that will run in XP compatibility mode.
6) POL will fail in the middle of updating. There should be come directory called "patch" or something with a patch/Playonline/blah/blah/blah directory there. Two .dll's will be in that folder. COpy them to the right place (from PlayOnline/patch/PlayOnline/blah/blah to PlayOnline/blah/blah). I'm being vague since I did this like a month ago and can't remember exactly the filenames.
7) FFXI should update and run just fine.
about 40% through the dvd download, i decided to install my brain and use it, and realized i could install POL & update it fully on my laptop, then transfer it over the network to my vista PC
just had to install POL on my vista machine first from the original disc, just so i had a registry value, and then i copied/pasted the updated POL/Tetramaster folders over to my PC
works :D
That works too :D
holy shit this is awesome
vista allows full hardware acceleration across both monitors if you're running dual screens off the same 3d card
i'm gonna try running two 3d apps at once and see what happens ;o
I don't understand why people want to use OS's that haven't officially hit the market yet. GIVEN, it's a release candidate but it's still a work in progress and chances are that it's buggy.

not under Windows XP and prior, they don't
run FFXI windowed in XP, then drag it over to your secondary screen in a dual-screen setup and watch your framerates go from 29-30 to 4-5
mine never did, I never understood why everyone said this.Originally Posted by Reality

Yeah, doesn't look like I'll be upgrating to Vista RC1 soon. Audio drivers on the onboard sound aren't supported. ^^;
