My understanding was that the Nikki/Jessica split personality thing was nothing to do with her power, just a product of a fucked up childhood. Her actual power of super strength was just locked up in one half of a split personality which itself that had nothing to do with the Heroes lore and was just a standard psychological illness born of her sister's death.Originally Posted by Killgannon
This past episode brought up some questions for me.
Candice's Ability:
When we first were introduced to her, she shape-shifted into Simone and altered the bed so the dead body could no longer be seen by the police. Since then, she only seems to prefer changing her physical appearance. She also told HRG that she could show him things that'd make him tear his eyes out. Altering the bed and the statement to HRG suggest her power is that of illusions rather than simple shape-shifting. Personally, I thought of it as a some sort of mental effect.
In the future, it appears Sylar has her ability and again seems to only use it to change his appearance. Sylar as Nathan has to be a public figure. Cameras still pick up Sylar as Nathan which wouldn't happen if it was simply a mental ability and is actually some sort of projection of an altered reality.
So I sort of wonder if her power comes as a set i.e. Shape-shifting + Illusions which would mean cameras and such see the body change, but any illusions would show up as what they it really is. The other possibiity is that it's illusions where she chooses to change her appearance but the illusion is some kind of projection that even cameras will show. Hopefully, I wrote that in such a way that makes sense.
I suppose technically it is possible that it is not Candice's ability, but someone else's. It seems rather unlikely to introduce a redundant power. Edit: Nvm this, I forgot Sylar said Candice's name when he encountered Claire.
Hatian's Ability:
In previous episodes the Hatian was shown stopping Parkman's mind-reading, Eden's persuasion and arguably Sylar's telekinesis when he encountered Eden. However, Nathan was able to fly away from him. We know the Hatian has the ability to erase/block memories. HRG has said before Sylar they didn't encounter people with more than one power.
Since it appeared the Hatian had only blocked abilities that affect the mind or are mind-based and erased memories, it seemed the only way to explain his power as one was to say something along the lines of he can block mental abilities. However, in the future shown, it seems the Hatian can block any powers so why didn't he stop Nathan? Is it that he needs to know what he's blocking, is it something new he learned, or did he just forget to have it on at the time?
Also, to me it seemed the Hatian's ability acted like sort of blanket effect stopping abilities near him. Now, in previous episodes, Parkman was able to forcefully bypass it (with alot of effort). In the future, Parkman uses his mind-reading while near the Hatian. Has Parkman surpassed the Hatian's ability or is the Hatian able to focus his ability solely on Hiro?
I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but when HRG had Sylar locked up, didn't he say that he was the first they've encountered with more than one power, but their tests couldn't find evidence of his other powers besides telekinesis? Perhaps Peter is only able to mimic the more prominent power (telekinesis) from Sylar.Originally Posted by Eaglestrike
it's interesting how HRG said that, because the invisible guy (forgot his name) who trained Peter said he has seen other people before with Peter's ability to absorb powersOriginally Posted by nivlakian
unless I remembered wrong![]()
While this is true, there was also a 7 year split between HRG and Claude, and Claude was "kicked out" because he was hiding someone, it may have been such a person.Originally Posted by GRT
Wow, last night's episode was amazing..
It was something along the lines of 'oh, you're one of those, an empath', which would imply he either has met others or knows about others.Originally Posted by GRT
Wow, the time thing is kind of confusing. I guess it "updates" as it happens... unless Sylar survived Hiro's attack for a reason outside regeneration.
PS: Can Sylar be considered one of the most awesome villains now? He actually wins. That's Kefka tier.
We know that he can focus his ability from the scene where he and eden aprehend sylar. sylar's ability was stopped, eden persuaded him to go to sleep.Originally Posted by nivlakian
Too bad Hiro couldn't go back and save Eden so Peter could get her powers. She was cute, what a waste of a hot chick![]()
I think so. Sylar is all kinds of win. I mean srsly. He's looks like your typical momma's boy, but he's so awesome. I love how well he acts out Nathan in the new episode, and back when he acted like Zane Taylor (the guy who broke down molecular structures).Originally Posted by BRP
He's got other cool powers to boot and instead of wanting to be all noble for the cause, he wants to be special by killing all the other "special" people to be the only one. I can't wait until we see next week's episode of his backstory. It should be really interesting to see if maybe he's trying to be the most special person so his mother will love him more? Heh. Would be twisted.
I am pretty sure I know who Claude was hiding now! Wooooooo.....dang.
I could always be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but this time I think I am on to something.
Sylar is awesome. Definitely Kefka tier.![]()
I think he wants to be recognized as special then/by take/ing over the world.
I second this.Originally Posted by BRP

I'm not sure which is more funny, the 5 hours in MSPaint comment or his eyebrows. >.<Originally Posted by Xiona
There's so much complex twists in this episode and its not even the 'present' its in the future.
After reading some of the posts here I decided to add my own two cents. Long read...sorry
Sylar: About him using his abilities and why we don't see a majority of what he's absorb'd it can be easily answered. Simply, Sylar believes he is the most powerful person there is. That's what it means to be evil. He doesn't need to boast about it in each episode or a matter a fact in the latest episode. He chooses to shape-shift only into Natan and not his surroundings is because he has the mind set that he won't be touched... he has all the powers... he's 'met' a lot of special people. Its why, once he heard that Peter was still alive that he decided "enough toying around."
Come on people, think evil
Also, last note on Sylar, people saying he had telekinesis. Wrong, he absorb'd it...... I still don't full understand Sylar's abilities, he absorbs them simply by eatting their brains? there's gotta be more to it. He understands how things work, remeber the ticking noises?
Peter: As for Peter vs Sylar, its hard to say who would win now that Sylar has regen. But the fact is Sylar was probably way stronger than Peter at that moment... like 10 fold. People will now agrue "He can just absorb the power and throw it back at him!" Wrong. In order for Peter to use the powers he's been in close contact with he has to understand it... focus, use it. Remember the invisible guy beating peter with a stick? He was teaching him that he has to learn to focus and understand how to use it. He worked off "spur of the moment and it'll come to you method, but it won't work during the heat of a battle... one as big as those two.
uh thats it for now, i could probably continue to talk up a storm about this. but lets not 8)
