Eh there's some places you can jump to that you can't get to otherwise.Originally Posted by BRP
Also you can jump while swimming which makes it so in some places you can just chain hop across lava and not get hurt lol.
Also some ways to slow fall or absorb falling damage so you can get places faster if like there's a huge jump or a longass path around.
Most games that include a jump feature usually have some type of practical use for it. In Dungeons and Dragons: Online, it ranged between taking a strategic position to fight the hard hitting Giants, to a Rogue being able to reach that little niche that was a little too high for the Fighter to get to, and then being able to disable the trap inside.
In Final Fantasy XI, the very design of the game negates any purpose for having a jump feature. While the game could've evolved differently if the ability to jump were implemented, it's hard to say whether that alternate possibility would've led to a better or worse gaming experience.
From a different standpoint, let's review the plethora of situations that have proven to us all, time and time again, that the designers and coders of the FFXI video game are lazy asses... Do you really think they'd want to do something as unnecessary as adding the ability to die from jumping off the mountain in Attohwa Chasm, or suicide diving from Zegham Hill?
You've got a better chance of finding a Kraken Club on Stone Eater.
I was watching a friend play WoW once, and in a raid in Naxxramus, the guild was standing in front of the boss they were about to fight, and everyone was just running and jumping around like retarded jackasses. At that moment I was glad FFXI didn't have jumping. Flying would be cool, though.
Dancing would be very gay too.Originally Posted by Stilgar

Well FFXI has a /dance emote but no actual animation for it. That is kind of lame in a graphical sense. FFXI has to fix the way items are handled in the game to reduce the effect of RMT on the normal player. Also changing the way the 3 kings and other HNM are handled will make for a more enjoyable end game experience. Job balancing will help as well, but it must be carefully done. If these changes are made, then FFXI will last longer. If they aren't, then the next MMO SE makes better be coming out sooner than expected. Jumping means jack shit. SE has nowhere to go but up in FFXI end game and in the game in general. Look at how MMO magazines talk about this game, it is THE joke of the MMO world at the moment. I will still hold onto my account hoping something great happens, but I will be somewhat content with the current state of things because I am a hopeless addict to a point.
I forsee WoW having horrible class balance issues when its expansion is released, those issues will be "solved" via buffing some classes and nerfing others in a later update of course. Those nerfs and buffs will create new and even worse problems. The multiple tiers of armor farmed at current end game will be completely obsolete at the release of the expansion (which is what MMOs should do lol). Still that is just adding more of a timesink haha. WoW also will never get World PvP right, which in my opinion should be most appealing aspect of a Warcraft MMO. Instanced PvP is nice, but I agree with some that instancing everything kills the massively multiplayer feel that MMOs should have. Standing around in town only to get the real shit done in an instance like Guild Wars or PSO isn't a MMO feel. I might as well be playing a 3d Diablo with Warcraft related skins and abilities lol (kinda like a lame total conversion).
This thread is now about WoW vs FFXI, go.
Nah sorry I even got that ball rolling. The new beastmen race looks interesting, but if you want to say somebody copied someone elses game. Well your post about DnD says it all.Originally Posted by BRP

ibtl, but seriously hasnt it been determined WoW and FFXI both have its up and downs, and to each its own. Nothing we say is gonna change the fact of who plays which or why.
Yeah actual mounts that are different for each race. One at level 40 and a better one at 60. Think they are adding flying ones in expansion. Transporation isn't that important in a MMO to me as the actual battle system and how the community is. WoW has a shit community for the most part, and there is no SATA really or skillchains or magic bursts. The battle system has its merits, but isn't on FFXI's level.. all they can say is you have stand here and use this ability... you have to do the same types of things in every MMO lawl. SCs, MBs and how SATA and hate is handled in general make FFXI standout.Originally Posted by jiang
You got it, SE just needs to fix a few things in my opinion to gain back more players. If they don't change much they will lose some more (not as much as they have already imo) but it will taper off and they will have a static playerbase. If SE fixes the BIG things, the next Return to Vanadiel will be a much bigger success. I would rather play FFXI, I like the community and the battle system more.Originally Posted by Koyangi
No, he seriously meant chocobos. Geezie posted a screenshot on here not too long ago of people riding chocobo mounts in WoW.Originally Posted by Eternus
