a) Currently about 6.5b people, growing at a rate of 209,000 people per day.

b) the total carrying capacity as is, is approx. 10 to 11 billion people. This number could change depending on technology or farming methods.

2) Evidenced by like India/China, probably a fuckton, so Ima say 20+ billion could actually "live" on the earth if we didn't kill each other or have some massive plague that kept everything in check, but by that point we'd all be living in squalor and half of those people would have AIDS or some such thing.

2) I don't really now. If 6-7 billion are able to live and the majority of the world is based on water, with the help of technology, we can prob triple-quadruple that amount but it would be very unhealthy.

2a. If we go solely by land mass, something huge like 1 trillion.
2b. If we go by natural resources, I’d guess maybe 50 billion by whatever the weak link would end up being. I haven't really researched much, but I’d assume water wouldn’t be a problem with water desalinization. It would just make water really expensive.
