Unless you're fighting mobs without blinkable AOE or magic, Utsusemi > Third Eye no matter how good they'll make it.Shot through my mind too. Only question remaining is whether or not they'll gimp this for /sam. If not then war/sam might have more tanking power than war/nin >.>
Or maybe they make Third Eye actually absorb AOE now, too. Then I'll agree on it being overpowered >.>;
[Edited/added quote for clarity]
So a war/sam can abs hits with third eye vs. war/nin for tanking? I'd still take war/nin for tanking anyday.
Fully meritted and geared you might want to watch out for SAM main too. With Overwhelm there is simply no reason for us not to have the hate now.Originally Posted by DeadLegend
Plus, SAM have access to a LOT of damage reduction %
Third Eye completely nulifies one attack. Whether that be a regular attack or something like Goblin Rush. The mob will completely miss.Originally Posted by Dbill

As a JA it is interruptable. And if you use it while para'd. You're SOL until the timer comes back.
Better hope your mages are on their toes. ^^
Holy fucking shit... It's about time they did something to help 2h weapons.
But damn, I really can't wait to finish GK now.
It's going to be insane..
Basically, Third Eye only absorbs physical attacks and all hits from physical WS. Spells and non-physical AoE (there's a few AoE/conical/single-target attacks that go through Utsusemi too, which I'm not sure whether they're physical or not) will still go through and damage, but they will not erase Third Eye. Third Eye stays up until it blocks a physical attack or its timer wears off and cannot be interrupted (although it can be eaten by Paralyze, like any /ja).Originally Posted by Dbill
But ya, overall I think Utsusemi is still superior in the sense it can absorb single-target spells and stays up without needing to recast (having to spam Third Eye to keep it up is annoying enough now), although that might change with the lowered recast with Seigan and how often the Counter/Evasion proc.
How is the enmity growth on current samurai JAs?
I necro the Vin thread, and then SE releases this just moments later...
Coincidence, or the acts of a higher power ??
Ok so I understand.
Third eye= 1 abs hit
Shadows = 3
So /nin is still far superior for war tanking.
I really interested in how much faster we can swing 2h weapons now. I hope it's not something gay like 2%.
You missed the part about there being a chance for third eye to be retained after blinking a hit with that new JA ;oa
Dependant on the chance for dissipation, you could possibly keep third eye up until the recast is up. Of course we don't really know how it will work yet, so yeah
You remember this 'shitty' piece of AF2 for Samurai...Shitty because Sam's never have hate to begin with ??Originally Posted by Rai
That enhancement to Third Eye causes it to counter. Think about that for a second.
Currently, when you hit Third Eye, you get a "Third Eye effect", which lasts 60 seconds or until consumed (or negated).Originally Posted by Dbill
The first attack that would normally hit you while you have that effect on, you instead get the message "Lithiani anticipates the attack", and the effect wears.
There are 2 caveats: firstly, Third Eye is completely ineffective vs. AoEs, even those that would be blocked by 2 or more Shadows. The AoE simply wipes Third Eye and hits you anyway.
Secondly, Third Eye considers a multi-hit attack to be a single attack. Goblin Rush would eat 3 shadows, but Third Eye will just eat it. Same goes for Colibri Pecking Flurry, Imps Frenetic Rip, Lamia Hysteric Barrage, and any number of other mob moves - plus any multi-hit WS in Ballista (doing it to Rampage fucking rocks) this was a patched in an upgrade over a year ago (the Zanshin update). It'll also eat Eagle Eye shot (something I try to do a lot in Dynamis)
So Third Eye has some advantages and some disadvantages compared to utsusemi.
Considering they're on timers like 1min (Third Eye, almost no hate), 2:30-3m (Meditate, almost no hate) and 10-15 minutes (Blade Bash, never noticed it giving alot of hate) ... I don't see SAM holding hate unless they spam WS. If that's where you were aiming at, that is.Originally Posted by DeadLegend
Third Eye can also absorb an entire WS(multi-hit) in that one "shadow", instead of taking all Nin's shadows and still doing dmg.
For instance, you can absorb an Asuran Fists with Third Eye, but you'd still take dmg thru shadows on Nin, assuming you didn't evase at least 4-5 of the hits in Asuran(not likely).
As far as vs. mobs go, it's the same thing, Disseverment, Frenetic Rip, Chomp Rush, Goblin Rush, Rushing Drub, etc etc.
Vin had nothing to do with this.Originally Posted by NynJa

Are we really talking about Sams tanking here? Are you seriously suggesting throwing a Sam at something, on the 'chance' that their eye wont be down after 1-2-3-4 attacks while you wait for cooldown? Not that a sam/nin could keep hate worth a damn, but the increased recast timers with this active makes its explictly clear this will not make sam a tank on anything. This is the equivilant of suggesting whm/nin because they can cast Blink inbetween shadows. Hope you dont get hit!
The offensive update is by far the better of the two, so lets quit the nonsense and talk about what this update is really about: making 2h weapons viable. The defensive will just give a little more survivability if you pull hate, thats all.
Meditate has a shitload of hate >.> Not quite as much as something like Souleater but at least as much as Provoke.Originally Posted by Rai
Third Eye also has hate, but nothing too significant, maybe 2-3x as much as an Utsusemi recast. However, spammed every 30s with Seigan, it would add up.
