Heh. SE isn't trying to kill off the game. They're trying to do the exact opposite. They think they're protecting the game. I suspect they have two desires in mind: they want to retain as many players as they can until they have a new mmorpg ready (earliest 1 year from now, probably for ps3) and maybe (a very slim maybe) drive some PC players to the PS2.

Grunion got it all mixed up and confused, but I think he's like a mad prophet in some idiot-savant way. I don't use any hacks at all, but I bet some of the people I know do, maybe even folks on my friend's list (most of 'em are in die-hard HNM shells). I don't want them kicked. I wouldn't mind SE preventing them from cheating, but kicking even one of them gives me less reason to log in. It has me thinking it's time to move soon. Maybe to Vanguard when it comes out. Not WoW. Gah. The only MMORPG that I actually *finished*; actually got it to say Game-Over in 6 months of casual play.

How dumb can SE be!? They don't need a cheat-catching task force. They write the laws for the physics of their VL world. They can just make it impossible for players to screw around in ways they don't like with some simple server-side tweaks. But, nope, instead they're gonna hunt 'em down and mount 'em on their walls -- all the while leaving all the incentives to cheat still in place. Dumb. Really dumb. These are JP. Haven't they read Sun Tzu or Musashi?! It's always better to get what you want without a fight and you never let your enemy pick the battlefield and the type of war if you can help it.

They're turning cheating into a contest of "I dare you!" to the hacker crowd. That's just irresistable to those folks. That's *fun* for them. ><
