Now there is a story out that Sony batteries are causing iBooks to burn. The news of PS3 overheating is not that surprising. Hopefully for Sony's case they can fix this as soon as possible. PS3 launch is looking horrible and it hasn't even happened yet. Maybe they are lowering our expectations on purpose so we aren't so disappointed by the overall suckiness of their launch. Expect the worst and be happy when things turn out not as bad as expected.
Well the batteries technically were shorting out, not just overheating and bursting into flames....but yeah things aren't looking so hot for Sony atm.

The preview of the unit on DL.tv looked incredible though :/ If you're a graphics freak I can't see the others beating it, but yeah content still > all

Well, on the bright side, if you pick up a PS3 you can play games and heat your home at the same time. That's efficent, isn't it?

And as far as Boo-ray for games goes: Sony sure is placing a HUGE bet on people shelling out hundreds more for a console when people can, ya know, get a message "Please insert the DVD labelled 'Super Game - Disc 2.'"

Hmm. Screen message... spend $300 more to avoid screen message...

    *scratches chin thoughtfully*

    PlayStation 3 (PS3) may be region-free
Totalvideogames.com has quoted the Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, Michael Ephraim, as saying, "If you look at the fact that it will support high-definition TV, which will be a global standard, there's a good likelihood that it will be global region, as for example we've done with the PSP (PlayStation Portable)." The idea of a a region free PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a dream come true for those who've longed to not only play games from other countries, but watch foreign produced films as well. Presently the PlayStation 2 (PS2) is region-encoded, meaning that games and films from some countries will not work on an unmodified PS2 from another. There are third-party kits which allow for region-free playing, but many void the PS2's warranty once installed.

    Region free > wii

    LOL nice Minions.

The Sony vs Nintendo vs Microsoft war will always have opinions on both sides. So its an un-ending debate for the most part.

As much gripe as u guys are giving Sony on this PS3 "Blue-ray-Gamble" I am sure they will do just fine, and you might be surprised if they have outsold Xbox and Wii only after 12 months of being on the shelf.

Japan is really loyal to both Sony and Nintendo, especially Sony.

Xbox and Xbox 360 combined have sold something around 680,000 units in japan.

While PS2 alone has sold over 20 million units in japan, I am sure thats a trend that won't pull a role-reversal very easily.

    So who knows..

So, would region free eliminate PAL/NTSC transfer crap, thereby making America and the EU have similar release dates? I have no idea about this stuff other than I hate PAL.

EU would still have later release dates cause of the French and German who wants video games in their own language.

Another example of an American who thinks America is everything. Sad.

I sold my Xbox, my gamecube is collecting dust for at least 8 months now and my PS2 hasn't been touched in over a month. I'm not buying any of these systems. I'm getting a better PC....

How about... Not everyone can speak English, so that is why? Maybe they prefer their native language? Just because you can speak both doesnt mean everyone can.

EDIT: Who are you to say that nonenglish languages are not real?
