Imagine if there actually was only one variety of the so-called "legendary" Pokemon. Imagine being the only guy with Mewtwo, or Kyogre. Then imagine a PVP system where you had to ante-up one of the six Pokemon in your lineup.Originally Posted by Killgannon
I'd buy that shit.
I'd quit FFXI for a Pokemon MMO.
It'd be cool if you could have like 6 normal pokemon vs 1 legendary pokemon, pokemon games need more epic battlesOriginally Posted by Jeryhn

People would just bot Mewtwos.Originally Posted by Kaylia
A better idea: Not only come up with an ante system, but in the case of rare pokemon like Zapdos, Mewtwo, etc., if you lose a fight with them in your team of six, they can have a chance to be "shamed", and leave their trainer altogether and become wild again.
This could encourage player ranking, cycling of Pokemon choice and no whoring-out of rare, uberstat Pokemon.

Well yeah, it's an "online" game, and you have to play against other people.
Another cool feature in this game is the beauty/music/ect contests. They are like mini-games, which is always cool.
Anyway, this game has some cool evolutions for older pokemon. Rhydon is getting an evo. Eevee is getting a grass and ice evo(7 total evos so far).
About a Pokemon MMORPG... well, I'm holding back, because we'd get the average BRP essay on FFXI ideas, but with pokemon. I will say that I hope its hard, way harder than the games to progress. You can clear any pokemon game in a day. So it couldn't just be a copy and paste of the offline games. I'm would hope for a system that is a mix of RPG and fighting elements. Also tournaments to settle everything in the game. From who gets to fight the Gymleader to who gets to claim Mewtwo, a 3-7 day pop. Also tons of mini-games, which FFXI has done a lot of, but tons more.
A Pokemon MMO would be so incredibly awesome, I'd definately buy it.
Anyhow, looking at some images of the new Pokemon, I'll definately be getting this game. I'm not much of a competitive battler, (the PvP metagame in Pokemon is so freaking deep and full of strategy, it makes the story mode look like a joke) so I mainly play through the game with a team of semi-good Pokemon that I think look cool. One of the starters is a penguin and there's an electric-type squirrel Pokemon, so I'll definately be getting the game for those. Although now I want to go pick up LeafGreen so I can transfer over a Bulbasaur. (best starter EVER, although this new penguin dude could give him a run for his money)
I've heard a few negative things about the game, (wild Geodudes and Zubats are EVERYWHERE, can't catch certain Pokemon until you beat the Elite Four) but I've gotten atleast the main series of Pokemon so far (Blue, Yellow, Gold, Crystal, Sapphire, skipped Emerald...) so I'll be picking this one up anyway.
I'll be getting my Pearl within a week and its gonna fucking own. I also went to the Toys R' Us Mew givaway on the 30th and i was relieved when i wasn't the oldest person there. Grats creepy 25~ year old guy wearing Pikachu ears. Online battling will probably be the closest thing to a pokemon mmo we will probably ever see sadly. Altho Battle Revolution looks fucking pimp as hell.
I may finally buy a DS when this comes out.
Are you getting the JP version or something?Originally Posted by Kuai
Pick up Pokémon: Mystery Dungeon, it's made of win.
It's basically Final Fantasy Tactics Advance with Pokémon.
While it has it's flaws, it's still something new from the other 100 Pokémon games.
Ninja Edit: Battling other people over the Wi-Fi looks hot.
It's the only version out so yea. Probably be 6months before they localize it for English release and my inner child cannot wait that long.Originally Posted by Lbelle
I'm currently playing the Pokemon Blue Rescue Team game and it's a lot of fun. :D (<-Eevee ftw!) I've always loved the pokemon games so I'll definitely pick up one of those when they come out.
It's funny too that people here are talking about a Pokemon MMO because my friends and I were talking about that last week and how we'd so play it if they made one. XD
I was interested in this game and was looking forward to it until I started seeing some of the other pokemon...
The series peaked artistically at GS, practically every mob was well designed.
RS had some weird ones, but some gems too, this latest generation, however, just screams a thorough lack of imagination.
If it's not an evo or prevo, it's a fucking digimon ripoff. ¬¬
Some nice ones, but there's an over-all feeling of meh.
Dragonite, Umbreon, Typhlosion. They oozed their persona and their purpose.
Compare that with a hippo pokemon that looks like it came out of a 2nd rate cartoon. -_-
That being said, I like the new attack system, it allows some previously useless pokemon to be useable.
Like poke with a special main type, but a low SPatt rating and high Att rating (Kingler, Absol, Flareon, etc.), and visa versa (lolTogetek).
Dragonite & that ugly one with better balanced stats can now make full use of their ungodly Att with a stab move that few types resist.
Grasseon is fucking overdue and I like his balance and look, but the fact that it isn't evolved with a leaf stone (so far as anyone knows) is WTFd'd.
Iceon is Espeon with good def and no speed. Really didn't need to add this one.
Most of these new evos are minor tweaks in stats and probably some new moves that may or may not change how they're played.
They gave evos to pokes that needed and deserved boosts in strength, movepool, and popularity while also giving them to mobs that...well....fuckin lickitung evo.
Technically, you can't be disappointed, they improved every aspect of gameplay and are refining the game with every step.
I believe the pokemon you can use while going through the meat of the game is what's important, so with this slew of unimpressive or odd-looking pokemon, I can't consider it a full success.
Sneasel Evo and the two top legendaries do look cool, though.
I now regard the pokemon franchise the way I do any Capcom fighting game.
New versions improve gameplay a little bit but otherwise it's the same game and for some reason the graphics are very very dated.
They didn't even bother animating the same old sprites they've been using since the GBC version. They just kind of shake a little and all the animation is in the gee-whiz lightning and water and fire moving around the gradient background. Even the dragon quest games eventually upgraded to animated sprites and they were one of the notorious holdouts.
I'll stick to gold/silver.![]()

The gameplay has changed so much with each installment. Some people seem to forget there has only been three-generations of games in total(not including the fourth which is unreleased in the US). Red is so different compared to Ruby, while a lot of people can't grasp this because they are only thinking about the things that are most obvious(you still catch pokemans lawl), but if list and look at all the differences for each generation, there is more gameplay updates between pokemon generations than there is most final fantasy games, let alone most RPG sequals in general.
The graphics are not that 'dated'. Every round the sprites(quality and all) are entirely changed(never are they recycled). I don't know if people are comparing the GBA additions with DS games, or if people comparing the new addtions with a game on the DS that is completely in its own league of graphics(like FF3), but the graphics are far from the same-old-same-old. Maybe its the illusion that Pikachu is still going to look like Pikachu even when the graphics change?
What do you mean by animate? Every pokemon has an entrance dance when they enter. The moves are still thrown at enemies who have a common reaction to all moves, as it would be impossible for the DS to make over 300 reactions for 488+ pokemon. The actual attack animations have actually improved a lot, at least in this addition. I remember seeing one that looks like FFXI's Stone IV(or V, forget which now that I think about it).
Complaining about how the new pokemon look like is fair arguement. I can understand, because it seems many of the new pokemon are very complex in shape, more like Digimon than simpler Pokemon, which isn't always a good thing. It doesn't bother me too much, and it could just be there is so many now you can't even begin to remember them all, so its natural to not like the ones you can't remember by heart.
Saying there is tiny improvement with each generation is a laughable arguement.
the only diamonds and pearls I'm playing:
