This is not his last movie (lolmarketing), it's his last Wu Shu movie. The distinction being that Wu Shu movies are actually fight heavy as opposed to wire-work or quick camera cuts (standard action). He stated in an interview that 1) his body is getting too old for these types of films and 2) he feels he's said/done all that he can in the genre

Oh yeah you are right, me and the 4 other people I watched it with all missed it I guess. I do remember the fights at the beginning, but I didn't immediately connect them with the end-fight. Bleh I wish they moved them all to the end before the last fight and added more fights to the movie period. Just not enough fights and the whole thing in the small farming villiage took too long and ruined the pacing of the movie. They could have made that part a little shorter and put in at least 2 more fight scenes or made the existing scenes better by lengthening them.

Eternus how could you not put the beginning part and the end together rofl, that's kinda sad . I agree that the fighting scenes could have been longer, since all that were in the movie were so kickass. But, I loved that village part, and since I didn't know his story, I really thought he was going to go back, which is what I wanted.

    Instead he got owned lol!

Yeah I can't remember the movie that much. I know I saw Jackass 2 with the same 4 people the night before it though. If I am going to see a martial arts movie, I want action. I don't give a fuck about that villiage, would have been better if bad guys burned it to the ground and everyone in it. Then Jet Li's character could be out for revenge. Either way the movie could do with less of the villiage and more violence. I didn't pay to see a romantic movie break out in my martial arts movie. Of course that would make it a different movie that is similar to almost every martial arts movie ever made.

What bothers me is the other people I watched the movie didn't get the connection between the fights scenes either. I knew he was going to die before the movie started lol... he died in Hero too. Kinda expect the hero to go the Shakespeare route and die in a tragic turn of events. Well at least everyone else didn't die like in a Shakespearean tragedy. I didn't expect much plotwise from this movie, and it didn't disappoint in that regard. It disappointed me with the actual martial arts scenes, which is the only fucking reason I bought tickets to see it in the first place.

    fun fact:

The school that he opens in the end, Jing Wu Men, is the is the same school Bruce Lee's character in Fists of Fury is from. Lee's character is his student.

as for the village scenes. it wasn't really meant as a romance. it was more of (cliche) broken man finding his will to live again.

interview with jet li and stuff

AHHA: What makes Fearless different from all the other martial arts films you’ve done?

Jet Li: Fearless is based on a true story of a martial artist. He is a philosopher from the last century. He changed people’s mind on martial arts. Before him, martial arts was about fighting; about killing each other. He turned it into sports. I’ve been learning martial arts for 35 years, and I believe was he says.

Martial art is not just about the physical. Action films usually focus on the physical - they beat on each other and have competition on who is stronger, or they fight for revenge. Sometimes it is good but it’s just one part of martial arts. This story talks about the whole idea of martial arts - how to control your martial arts instead of letting martial arts control you. You can use it in the right way. This is also my last Wushu movie.

AHHA: Why is this your last movie?

Jet Li: Everything I believe I put in this movie. Both the physical and mental parts of martial arts are in this movie. I wrote it. I found the producer for the film. I knew what I wanted to make.

AHHA: That would explain the similarities with the character in this movie and your real life. What do you plan do to now?

Jet Li: Yes. He died at 42 years old; I made the movie at 42. I am still making movies. I’m living my normal life and doing things that I believe in. I just finished a movie a few months ago. It’s a about the FBI fighting with the mafia.
