    New system will 'block' gambling

The news is mainly stating banning of online gambling payments. However the news has the following quote below, and I am not sure what they mean by it. Does the quote include gambling but limited to gambling sites that US issued credit cards will not process

    Source:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/5397920.stm

The law, part of a sustained clampdown on online gaming in the US, would make it illegal for banks and credit card firms to process online gaming payments from the US.

won't do anything, gambling sites don't have you pay directly, they have their own "banks" set up to be middlemen

The law of Unintended Consequences is going to bite Congress HARD...all those online gamblers are going to resort to other means to do it, and those other means will just make it 100x harder to crack down on money laundering and terrorist financing.

    GJ Congress!

Again, just another move by the government that shows they don't give a fuck about the younger generation and have no idea what we want... they only want to appeal to the voters, which happen to be selfish fuckhead senior citizens who only care about social security.

Aren't you allowed to vote as well? or is this issue restricted to members of the governmont only?

QFT, I've been thinking about this for a while... The world would be a much better place if the Babyboomers would just die already... The Babyboomer Generation is the most powerful generation we have witnessed in North America, (Woodstock, Peace movements during Vietnam)...

They are so used to having it their way, and imo they are just trying to exploit everything they can get their hands on so they can live a good life before they die, not caring about future generations. (Oil is a good example, Global Warming etc...).

The world will be a much better place in a couple of decades.

No Gov't Leader gives a fuck about the young generation, that's the biggest problem with young voters, they just don't appeal to us; they don't try to either.

Yeah current politicians only pay small face time to things like Social Security because they don't want to change it. The Baby Boomer generation is going to fuck this country when they all retire and collect SS. The system is broken and all of the past 10+ years of politicians know it, yet have done nothing to prevent it from happening. The US government will be collecting a shitload less SS than what it will be paying out to the Baby Boomers, and that wasn't the original intent of Social Security to begin with lol.

Wrong, no government leader cares about people who don't vote for him/her. They don't bother appealing to youth voters because the elderly do vote and they generally don't piss their votes away on Ralph Nader.

This is the most important point. Politicans only go after the folks that actually vote. This is old people, especially babyboomers that now choke the shit out of suburbia with sameness, it's like 50m Americans that are all exactly the same, so going after their vote is very very easy. I'm sure 95% of them didn't save jack-shit for retirement on their own and got too caught up in yuppydom and corporate america, making a common issue among them extremely easy to target. This is why deals like Enron were such a tragedy, because people allowed others to hold their money for them. but i digress....

Politicans also know that only a Democrat or Republican will actually win, and people that are stupid enough to vote for a 3rd choice aren't worth going after anyways. I love hearing people bitch about "well bush has been in office 4 years and I'm still unemployed!!" like it's the president's fault you're a lazy fuck, if you're so smart about running the country then vote for yourself!!! oh wait you can't win so why waste your vote...see Ross Perot. Voting for 3rd/4th party candidates is throwing your vote away. Put a rainbow bumper-sticker on your car if you want a gay president or w/e, but when you enter the booth pick one that has a chance of winning that is close to your ideals.

Honestly you can't blame politicians, they are there to get elected, which is the same thing you'd have to do if you wanted to run for office. And if you don't keep focusing on the people that got you there, you'll be out in 2-4 years.

The two party system fails. Partisan politics fail. People should be elected based solely on their own stance on issues, not what their political party thinks is best for the country. Fucking lobbyists buy their way into getting what they want and corrupt our government even further.

Exactly, however as long as more than 50% of the general population says to themselves "I R REPUBLICAN I MUST HATE GAYZ /buzz /robotnoise, I R DEMOCRAT ALL BABIES MUST DIE", partisan politics will continue. The general populus is unable to think for themselves, period.

Once people that can think for themselves outnumber those that can't, we'll see some unique viewpoints and true progression in politics.

Democracy and Free Market could work fine if they had some way to be seperated, however one ruins the other time and time again.

I'm not worried. The govt bitch slapped Napster back in the day. Then went after Aimster, Kazaa and the other P2P software that came afterwards. Jump to 2006 and I'm still getting songs for free (and movies, and TV shows, and...)

SE will find a way to stop all bots before the govt can stop online gaming.

You people are silly...you think the 2 party system causes partisan politics? N word please. You have no clue to what partisan politics is like...the American political system is probably one of the most non controversial systems in the world because you CAN NOT BE AN EXTREMIST and be an effective politician in america. You just can't. You have two choices, center left and center right...for all the moaning and bitching, if you get down to it, there is really little difference between the two parties. Contrast that to a country like Italy, where you have 30+ parties that vie for seats and any government is a fragile coalilition of 10 different groups that are trying to push their own viewpoints by threatening to break the coalition. That's partisan politics, where a country is effectively paralyzed by extremists fracturing the vote.

In American, 40% of the voting populace is voting Democrat, and 40% is voting republican, regardless. So it all comes down to who can court the 20% that decide the race, and that comes to who can move closer to the center. Bush is an anomaly because he has been able to take advantage of both an unprecesidented attack on American plus the largest void of leadership ever in the democratic party, but even then, he's not nearly as conservative as the left paints him.

The American system has survived due to the stablity inherent in the 2 party system, and that stability is one of the reasons America has been so strong. In almost every other country, the Bush/Gore election would've causes massive rioting, in fightings, and paralyzation of the government. America just shrugged it off, went on with its business and treated the resolution as really nothing to worry about. Sure, I would like to see some of the advantages that the Democrats and Republicans enjoy taken removed...but I really don't want to see one issue parties like the Green Party being able to gum up the works in Congress either. So I'll just be content to know that I live in the most prosperous nation in the world, with the most stable government, and vote for the candidates that I feel are the most effective in office.

PS: no democratically elected government is able to fix social security. It's the one major flaw in democratic governments: they can not sacrifice today for prosperity in the future; they have no foresight. To fix social security would take a majority of congress to have the balls to get voted out of office at the very next opportunity for the greater good. And because only the people that enjoy power run for congress, you won't see anyone trying to change SS until it's already dead.
