Damn I feel the urge to level SMN again haha. This makes the job more versatile for sure. Much easier to run out of MP is the only bad thing, and that itself isn't bad. You can buff the party and do decent damage at the rate of one attack BP and one buff per BP minute. Thats pretty nice actually.
Claustrum should be better than Bahamuts staff for SMN and HQ staves for BLM. That is a fucking crime imo and SE should fix it. I don't mean to stick up for lolgalkasmn, but really that staff should do more than just melee dmg if its going to be only BLM/SMN. If SE just wants to make it damage... then look at what kind of damage MNK and DRG can do with Full Swing, I doubt SE would let DRG or MNK equip Claustrum thouth.
Haven't tested it but I'm told hastega is weaker than haste for one, not just shorter duration. However haste isn't the only reason for a mage in the main party, in fact a RDM or WHM can haste the tanks from outside the party so you don't even need a mage there, just brds for erase, but the main reason is to have heals available and Cure III from a summoner just doesn't cut it.Originally Posted by chiz
Spring Water doesn't do erasega, and by the time you get leviathan out, in position and spring water off a WHM would have simply paralynaed the melee, not to mention walking into ululation range in the first place is retarded. And again, if you're the only one not petrified, you'll want cure IV/V on the tanks, not to spend half an hour dicking around trying to get leviathan out and in position.Originally Posted by chiz
The benefit is small enough it's not worthwhile. Why give 4 BLM 8% more agro when you can take a 5th BLM for 25% more damage?Originally Posted by chiz
Can be done already by a WHM/SMN, but often isn't because it's not a huge benefit.Originally Posted by chiz
Ok flux, we get it, everyone should level blu or quit. We just don't care.

Shining Ruby shaved off 10 dmg of each of ouryus breath attack in the air down to 149 dmg with barspell merit brault thingy. Magic dmg reduction by around 6.5% there seems pretty nice
As far as i've seen it cures almost all status effects, which would be equivalent to Erasega. Most of our SMNs can summon Levi, run to position (before or after summoning) and get a Spring Water BP off before a WHM could get a 4th status removal off with recast included, nevermind that the BP heals HP and the WHM is out of action to cure while spamming these status removals.Originally Posted by FFXIFlux
It's not erasega. Spring water removes any debuff which has a specific spell to remove it, it does not remove things like burn, bio, etc.Originally Posted by Elondir
Hastega is weaker than Haste from RDM or WHM. The duration is definitely shorter and that's one major reason why Hastega isn't a favourable BP for a long time.
Shining Ruby can be used by /SMN. Basically an under-utilized BP. P.S. Carbuncle Cuff is a joke.
Spring Water is useful when your PT get hit by AoE that either gives you multiple negative effects or it is Breakga. This usually happens in Dynamis or fighting against Morbolos. Generally a good to have BP but overall under-utilized due to timing.
Dream Shroud is dependent on time of the day--the closer to midnight, the better the effect. Alternatively, you can use Fenrir's Ecliptic Growl when moon phase is close to New Moon. And sometimes, you can mix both for better effect.
You're a retard. SE should fix SMN so it's not a gimp job. BLU is one example of a better job but there are 16 others I could use. Sorry, 15 others, I keep forgetting one of them is PUP.Originally Posted by Plow
Flux, you're highlighting why SMN was and is broken. Someone else can out Dot SMN, someone else can out cure SMN, someone else can out buff SMN and someone else can out enfeeble SMN. But (like BLU) SMN can do more than one of these at once. What the update allows is for summoners not to have to choose to do one or the other, we can do two or more things at the same time. We don't have to waste our 1/min BP to throw on Earthen Ward over using Preditor Claws. Or what about staying out of para range, assaulting Levithan on Cerberus, and doing Spring Water to help heal then Spinning Dive to damage. Takes practice to get the avatars to path into the right place, it's a lot like plinko -.- but it means that summoners can do more than BP/Rest or BP/Cure for 1min. This doesn't completely fix SMN, but it's a huge step in the right direction.
(A good JSE set would finish it off nicely...)
I tried to play safe with "almost all" but I didn't know about elemental dots and bio etc., shows how much attention I pay to SMNs![]()
Was just thinking if Spring water and spinning dive used back to back would be enough to pull hate from lets say a wyrm fight? Using example: after a tp move and a decent dmg spinning dive.
I think Flux just brought up a good side of this patch. As an alternative to the addition a 5th BLM, you can get a SMN and do both support and offensive BP to make up the damage. (Dual timer to the rescue!)
SMN is gimped/broken, we know it since Day 1. SE's incentive to fix the job thoroughly is not apparent, we know that too. That's why I said this patch sounds more like a marketing scam than a faithful effort from SE to fix up SMN.
Avatars don't gain hate from using Healing Bloodpacts, otherwise Carbuncle would have been a tank a long time ago.Originally Posted by Vigion
Anyway, this update is made of win for summoners. Glad I already capped my skill for 75 and have a few of those rarer skill pieces (like Astute Cape).
Avatar Bloodpacts are also not effected by paralyze (like mob TP attacks).Originally Posted by FFXIFlux
However, a summoner can lose their Bloodpact timer if they themselves try using a Bloodpact while paralyzed.
EDIT: Good ninja delete.
Lemme know when you solo Biast with one of em.Originally Posted by FFXIFlux

Yes, they most definately are.Avatar Bloodpacts are also not effected by paralyze (like mob TP attacks).
I thought avatars BP could get interrupted by paralyze on the avatars themselves. But that's a small issue because you can always resummon. :D
No, they are not. I have yet to lose a Bloodpact where my avatar was paralyzed and I was not. Bear in mind, paralyze is not the same as stun, sleep or petrify (which will all interrupt an avatar's Bloodpact).Originally Posted by Plow
Ninja delete too slow! Flux, SMN shouldn't be the main healers on HNM, there should still be a WHM for the big heals. But that doesn't mean they can't support heal using our unique blood pacts and soon DD at the same time.
ok, so you can now BP twice in 1 minute.
where exactly are you going to rest mp ?? I'm no SMN, but I think BP's cost a lot of mp....
