wifi problems
IT guys at my college couldnt figure this out, and dell customer support isnt great either. Bought a new XPS M1210 laptop and went to connect to the wi-fi at my college and it wont connect. It see's all the signals and connections available, but when i go to connect, it doesnt do anything. Been through all the support channels, reinstalled drivers, everything i can think of.
Anyone know what might be wrong?

Honestly, I'm not sure... but I had a similar problem with a Toshiba laptop... just would not work, so I sprung for the 39.99 wireless pcmcia card and it worked >.> You can even find, if not borrow, a usb wireless adapter and see if it works. If it doesn't, then it's obviously windows.

yeah, get a cheap pcmcia card. They go for like 5 bux on eBay.

I sometimes find certain firewalls to be the problem.
Don't ask me why or how to fix it. Typically I just temp disable them. =o
It's not the built-in Windows firewall that does it, it's the third party ones like Zonealarm and McAfee and such.

yeah tried disabling the windows firewall. dont have zonealarm or mcafee

Is there another wifi connection you connect to?
Try a different place, if it connects then you know theres something wrong with it trying to communicate with you school (their fault). If it doesnt connect, that means its most likely your computers problem. Could just mean you have some funky ass encryption turned on.
