If you ask me, I don't see why SE should be responsible for idiots downloading hacks and getting jacked.

I guess it's to keep would-be-hacked kids as their customers, but if I were in charge of SE (from my evil mountain stronghold headquarters with my army of GM's in orange jumpsuits) I'd give up that revenue so I could sit back and laugh like a maniac at would-be-cheaters getting hacked and let them reap what they sow.
Because SE has to deal with all the people bitching about their accounts being jacked.

The reason it took so long last time is because Cliff was out of town and was pretty much looking at the code, making changes, and sending it out to be compiled elsewhere and so on.. i believe that's what he said on IRC.

Oh please, that's demi-evil, that's quasi-evil. It's the Diet Coke of evil, just one calorie, not evil enough.

Now if I were in charge of Square in my hollowed out under-sea volcanic evil strong hold with an army of GMs with fricken' laser beams on their fricken' heads (and hot servant guys and white Persian cat) I would design the viruses in the "third party" tools, then "retrieve" the account information, and return the characters to the people for a "small fee".

Now that's evil. Muh huh huh! Muh huh huh huh huh!!!

Take it one step further: SE can design something like FFXIApp and sell it behind the front of an independant third party app programmer. Undercut FFXIApp, or somehow switch all FFXIApp users over to (undercover) SE's version. Put the "virus" in there, and sell people's accounts back to them, then bust them for third party program use.

But you don't want to bust them for third party use, otherwise you won't be able sell them their characters over and over again. That way you keep getting their monthly fees and bonus cash to boot.

I'd have to insist that, prior to reselling accounts back to their customers, that an existing Suppanomimi on any character be dropped. [If I don't have one, I'll be damned if I let anyone else have one!]
And continue to have GM's spout off that the quest can be repeated.

P.S. My mountain stronghold is reminiscent of Sealab2021, rather than the easier target of Austin Powers.
My evil lair reference is more obscure, therefore better. Obscurity is a staple of hidden lairs.
Perhaps we could build a network of underground tunnels to connect our lairs though, into one penultimate Lair of Evil.

Whoa, is that soem sort of sick joke? You've totally gotta' be shittin' me.
If your computer has been compromised, excessive changing password or people who choose not to "save password" will allow keyloggers a much higher chance successfully acquiring your password.

Unless you always give out your password, a non-public computer in my opinion is best to avoid "typing your password". For added security, using mouseclick to edit your password is a good option.

e.g. your password is 123456789. Type "456789" and use mouse clicking back to beginning to type "123".

Against keyloggers, minimize the chances of typing your own password! Use the "save password" function...
