Didn't really try to make you look dumb, the quote "Boy you might be legally retarded" was from a Saturday Night Live skit, during Celebrity Jepoardy, when the person playing Sean Connery said it to Robin Williams. Stop your tears now please, I'm drowning in them.

Oh get real.. nobody needs any of that stuff - player skill and ability to "think on your feet" are like 50 times more important that a haub or any of that other garbage....

When you have 6 75 jobs and half of them are mage jobs and half are melee jobs, you just don't spend all your time dealing with having all the best equip because you understand that skillful play FAR FAR FAR outweighs having an extra +3 STR or +10 ATK... its just trivial crap... using squid sushi for some new player is infinitely better than worrying about a stupid haub

I would disagree. It depends on what kind of a party you are looking for, but if I were leveling my 3rd, 4th, 5th job, I would want it to go faster. Better gear (for most jobs) = more efficient party. More efficient party means faster leveling, which is the goal isn't it? At least, for melee jobs I think gear would be pretty important. It doesn't have to be HQ everything but it should at least be above average and up to date. Parties where the members have those extra stats and bonuses are the ones that can handle mobs one or two levels higher without breaking chain constantly.

At level 75 everything is T or VT... you don't need an adaman hauberk to rape most stuff. Having average equip is fine because it takes an astronomical amount of time to farm for that stuff as a level 55 melee job.. its much more efficient to just level to 75 and use kindred's seals to make money for basic equip like a haubergeon or assault earring...

Why waste 2-3 months farming for gil when you get 55-75 in <1 month?

However, from what was said at the TGS about MMORPG economies needing to be in a state of slow but steady inflation, I do think SE will try to reverse the current deflation.
I disagreee. See, here's the thing. The only *real* reason the economy needs a "slow but steady inflation" is that it prevents 1 person from having "everything."
How does inflation prevent this or how does deflation encourage this? The reason why deflation sucks so bad is because nobody wants to buy anything. Anybody who spent gil on a fairly expensive item during this deflation period got screwed. Do you think they wish they had 5 million gil now and buy a 2 million gil scorpion harness, or do you think they're content with spending their 5 million on a scorpion harness that's worth peanuts now? In an economy with a slight inflation, it is generally more beneficial to have your gil invested in items rather than sitting on it like everyone has been doing during the deflation.

Would you disagree if someone said you couldn't get more experience points with your party of experienced players on their 3rd or 4th job in AF than a group of people on their first job in haubergeons, etc? I would disagree, because after this long, we just play better. The gear is icing on the cake.

The twofold problem about RMT in FFXI is that it not only increased the circulation of money (and increased demand for items because more people could more easily acquire the gil to buy those items), but it also increased the problem of limited supply of items when groups of gilsellers camp them for that sole purpose. Making billions of gil disappear from the system doesn't really solve the overall problem of supply + demand, it simply creates a hiccup that smart people can capitalize on until the market gets closer to equilibrium again.

But really, the main problem of FFXI's economy is just supply vs demand. SE created an economy / game dynamic that worked for less mature servers, but has been very slow in adjusting for the maturation of servers. I don't know what they have in the works for the rest of ToAU, but really it would not be that difficult to set up a game economy that makes RMT much less intrusive to playability of the game.
That is probably the best FFXI market analysis I've ever read. :x
It's also reflected in a lot of other areas, like Monster distribution.
It's only been lately that SE has begun to realize they have to make more densely packed and faster spawning mobs for an ever increasing high level community, just wish they'd fix older areas in the same way.

Unless by 'x50 as important' you meant '50% of your job', you are a moron.
Being a decent player only makes you better, lacking timing and attention to detail doesn't suddenly keep you from being able to deal damage.
Every Melee realizes this when they see fucktard #278 get floated along getting all the good stuff just do go back to a mage job. -_-

hmm...I suppose I'm saying both are important, discounting either is just unrealistically asinine.
