Yep. Also up to a certain point gear means alot. In Merit/EXP PTs you will notice it the most but on HNM its hard to tell the difference between (For Example) Enmity+2 vs Enmity+5. Does the increase help? Yes but its very hard to notice, even over a long period of time.

Skill does not go as far as you would like to think it does in this game. Gear is very important to performance in FFXI.

If it isn't then why do people sit in BD/VoS/DA for three hours everyday?
take 2 pld's and put them on JOL one has say 40 enmity(hades+1 in this example) and the other pld(i.e. me) with no hades+1. The other tank will almost certainly hold hate the entire fight unless he is being good about it and trying to ween off some hate to you by being slow on JA's etc

ive seen this example many times with a pld in my LS that doesnt know how to balance hate well with his coPLD.

Not only does it hurt him by getting hit ALL the time but it hurts our support by having to focus alot more on him and jacking their enmity by dropping curebomb after curebomb instead of alternating cures between 2 PLD's. when your enmity is of between your two tanks by anything by 3 and the tank with the most enmity is constantly trying his absolute hardest to keep hate he will be able to hold hate over the tank with less enmity. Especially if you are over all both good PLD's with almost the exact same gear.
What's preventing you from doing just as much Curebombing as the WHMs? I'd wager 90% of my hate in a Proto-Ultima fight is Spamming Cure IVs on NINs after Antimatter.

It doesn't matter who has hate, someone getting cured is going to generate the same amount of hate, whether it's a BLM or a DRG....

I was in a kinda similar situation to this a while ago, there's the whole "If I leave I'm not loyal" issue, but since you were there a long time I think you're pretty exempt from that.

Is your LS leader a cool guy? Talk to him about it and tell him how you feel about the LS, how it's dried up and doing nothing anymore. If he doesnt login anymore, then he shouldnt exactly be surprised. Talk to someone who's an officer because paying 12.95 a month for misery is not the way to enjoy FF.

A few months ago I had a choice, either leave my LS which I helped create from the ground up because the game was no longer fun, or stay and be miserable and possibly quit the game. I chose to leave, and the usual leaving LS thing happened where I got backstabbed, called a loot whore, my "friends" in the LS saw me leaving as something offensive and turned on me, etc, but that doesn't matter. What should matter most is your wellbeing, what should matter second is your closest circle of friends, what should matter third is the linkshell you're in.

Dunno about JP LS's, but after I leave LS's all of a sudden I became the anti-christ to that LS, so just be prepared for that.

WHMs with merits and cure clogs landing a Cure V in half the time it takes a PLD to cast a Cure IV.

Sounds quite like when Russta left FFXI, and I can't pretend to be the good guy either nobody threw him under the bus quite like me. I wanted to make it clear I didn't have respect for someone leaving over an item, But after thinking about it for a while I understood his issue a bit more. I mean, Epoc the PLD with priority, had attendance to the point where you would always be second fiddle.

Anybody has the right to leave, I don't pester him about leaving on AIM, but I don't agree with it. I sincerly hope that he enjoys WoW and stays there, because from talking to Russta over the last 6 months or so of his FFXI time, it was work to him anyway.

curing only gives hate when its replenishing HP's. most of the time when we use pld (tiamat/ouryu/vrtra/JOL/prudence) eveyrone except the other pld is at full HP. I've been recently telling that mages to give the PLD's a cure cap for hate.

most of our whms are fairly new to the LS and like to make sure tanks are at full HP so its kind of annoying.

we never use NIN and PLD in combination. We've done ultima once with PLD/NIN and it went surprisingly well. except for the mithra pld in question ate it to CB. I on the otherhand ate 3 CB's all for 1600+ (one for 1800+ leavinvg me with 10HP)

thats where stacking enmity leaves you in fights like that.

It's more fun to throw galka paladins at it and watch them survive Citadel Buster with only minor hp gear.

I usually go solo as PLD/NIN, other 2 tanks are NIN/WAR <.<; I *am* galka so I mostly concern myself with surviving Citadel Buster at the end, the rest of the fight I mostly let the NINs tank.

As for Flux's comment about Cure Clogs and merits, it's not terribly hard to just have WHMs pause on curing a sec. I typically tell WHMs to slow down cures while Tiamat is in the air since it gives PLDs more to work with.

This is pretty much exactly the position I was in a few months ago. Was still in my first endgame shell after like 2 years. Every now and then we would make some progress doing something new, or get some kind of rhythem going and things look up.

Theeeeen no one shows up for events, or conveniently goes offline during a planned event. I gave my heart and soul to that linkshell and its members, excuse the horribly cliched and gushy undertones, and in the end the majority didn't seemed to give a damn after going to 1 or 2 events.

I sat on my decision to leave for almost 3 months, nearly leaving once, and finally leaving in the end to a better shell that actually did stuff. Of course, people immediately decide to hate me and what not. Really though, that's when you find out who your true friends are when they still talk to you and do not outright disown you lol.

Compared to 2 years ago, this game really has gotten stale. Expansion cycles that take 18 months are just too long and don't provide enough fresh content to keep people from losing the immersion. At that point, you're left playing for the social aspects of the game, but I think we all know how reliable those can be.

The social aspect of this game is actually quite nice if it doesn't revolve around a typical HNMLS.. lol

same situation for me, but thankfully I left on good terms...only problem now is all of my friends are basically in my old shell and I haven't had a social shell in 18 months. Still, it's alot better not having to worry about planning events that won't be attended, and instead, do stuff you didn't have time for like leveling a craft or another job.

If it's over, it's over...the longer you stay, the more likely you will grow so frustrated you'll just quit the game period.

I don't really feel like replying to this because for the first time It's getting to me emotionally but your replies really open me up. Let it be known though that I don't care about events and I don't give 2 shits about end game and final fantasy 11. Something inside says I quit this game a long time ago and what kept me playing and enjoying it was the relationship that I formed with people both in and out my linkshell.

Parklife, the leader of the linkshell has been away not because he wanted to quit but because of a medical condition, without going into much detail, it's his liver. With him going away, the wheels of TTF have pretty much stopped moving. I can easily join almost any linkshell on bahamut both NA and JP but you know what, I won't. Before he went to take care of his personal business he sent me an e-mail which is whats going to keep me from looking the other way. I will stay loyal and await his return. Even if it takes a year+ and another expansion release.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience.

Just join another Linkshell... Jesus, this is a game and if it is effecting you emotionally maybe you should just get the fuck out.

Zigma, ive known you for a long ass time and even though I cannot play on the same server as you anymore there was one thing I always noticed about you... You was always torn between your friends and it was hard to pick a side to be completely devoted too (Sapphire + TTF).

Sometimes you need to pick sides, sometimes you have to do what is best for you... if they choose to not be your friends atfer... then how can they call themself your friends.

hmmph.. it's not the game that's getting to me, I said a long time ago that the addiction is not there anymore. It's more about losing a friend that gets to me. Picking TTF over SB was actually very easy and even after I left, I was still welcomed back to do events and I never asked for anything (just ask Alleya, Daahan, Tonkounakaki, Warthog etc).

    This emo shit fucking sucks.
