Assuming that my LS can beat AB in our first try tonight (who knows?) I wanted to know everyone's suggestions regarding the best mobs to farm. I know that some are borderline nightmarish (pardon the pun) while others aren't that bad. Any tips?

Bunnies are OK, whirl claws is their worst move.
Efts aren't bad but will dispelga a lot.
    Uragnites suck balls.

In order of least to most difficult, in my opinion:

Nightmare Crab - not much harder than a normal exp crab with HP adjusted for Dynamis. Even if you link a lot of these (which will happen), they're not hard to sleep, don't hit very hard, and should be generally manageable.

Nightmare Crawler - see Nightmare Crabs. They hit harder and may spam Cocoon making them mildly annoying. Poison from Poison Breath isn't strong, but Slow from Sticky Thread can't be Hasted over.

Nightmare Dhalmel - once they suicide (Berserk), it's over. The problem here is the linking in large numbers. If a Dhamel uses Healing Breeze in range of other sleeping Dhalmels, it's usually over for the mage(s) with most hate. Make sure your melee parties keep them apart.

Nightmare Raven - same as Dhalmels (minus the Healing Breeze and Berserk parts) in that they're worse in numbers. Most of their attacks hit a line-of-sight conic and can be kind of strong. Damnation Dive is a really annoying Stun.

From the rest on, linking gets significantly deadlier.

Nightmare Eft - Geist Wall won't dispel all of your buffs, but the problem here is Nimble Snap (AoE Stun) combined with a fast movement rate which allows them to pick off people. Pretty easy to kill if you can get a few at a time.

Nightmare Bunny - Linking here is bad, bad, bad. Whirl Claws is by far the worst part because it's very strong, Blink won't help you (you'll need at least 3 shadows unless you're very lucky), and virtually everyone in Weakness will misjudge the range on its AoE and die again.

Nightmare Scorpion - Earthbreaker has large range (further than casting range) and Stuns, but the real problem here is that almost all of their specials have Poison/Venom effects. Most healers won't expect someone hit by Venom Sting to be losing 100HP/3s.

Nightmare Mandragora - Poison/Venom won't keep you awake from Dream Flower and Scream has a short Terror effect on it. Those are less of an issue if you have your mages apart, but the problem here is that they hit very hard (bad for mages with hate) and can counter your attacks a lot.

Nightmare Cockatrice - Cockatrice hit very hard, Mute (AoE) can't be removed by Silena/Echo Drops, and Baleful Gaze is conic line-of-sight effect and actually lasts a long time.

Nightmare Uragnite - Between Gas and Venom Shell, you have Gravity, Venom, and Plague 100% of the time. They link horribly, hit pretty hard, and Aspidochelone would be jealous of their ability to regenerate and reduce physical/magic damage while they're in their shell. These flat out suck and my linkshell probably hates me for making us do them occasionally.

    Good luck.

Edit: For Efts, It's Numbing Noise that should cause Stun, not Nimble Snap. They have a couple other specials that aren't too hard to deal with though.

Adding to the above post, the list compiled in http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12535 has:

    Eft, Uragnite: MNK, PLD
    Crawler, Dhalmel: WAR, DRK
    Cockatrice, Crab: BLM, DRG
    Raven, Scorpion: RDM, RNG
    Bunny, Mandragora: NIN, BRD
So of the 'unpleasant' pops Teorem mentioned (which seems pretty accurate) the only ones you have to worry about if you want to balance it out are the Eft/Urganite set and the Bunny/Mandragora set.

Welp, thanks to everyone in this thread for the tips, we won our inaugural attempt :D Killed Body Slam, Heavy Stomp, and Voidsong, beat the piss out of AB, then farmed ravens, bunnies, and some crabs at the end. Only drops were NIN belt and RDM -1 hands off consecutive bunnies. We wasted a lot of time talking strategy, so hopefully we'll have longer to farm next time out.

Incidentally, those bunnies are dynamite. Monty Python jokes abound.

Teorem I'm gonna steal your post and edit it to how a mage heavy group is vs the mobs.

Nightmare Crab - lots of HP and annoying, they have a decent magic resistance too, not worth the time killing these when we can flatten other things in less time.

Nightmare Crawler - Easy peasy, dies in a few nukes.

Nightmare Dhalmel - kinda hard, healing breeze wakes them up, and the one time I pulled them, I linked about 20.

Nightmare Raven - rubbish easy, they were so easy in fact I was told to bring as many as I could because of their low HP (I'm told they have high evasion, so I guess that's something melee arent so great on).

Nightmare Eft - as easy as the birds, except for the stunga move.

Nightmare Bunny - easy, whirl hurts though, but generally not hard if we get lucky and they don't use whirl.

Nightmare Scorpion - Surprisingly easy to kill. Antidotes required for /rdm, but they go down pretty fast.

    Nightmare Mandragora - never tried

Nightmare Cockatrice - Kinda difficult. Mutega hurt us alot, at the end we resorted to gravving them and just having to wait out the mutega while we died.

Nightmare Uragnite - THE DEVIL. Unless there's some trick I don't know about on how to pop them out of their shell right away, they're not worth it. Just spamming poisona/erase/viruna etc , was a waste of time.

That's nothing. Juma (our puller) does that every time. Every zone, every mob type, every pull. Just as Teorem ;p Hrm, I should start a "Post your biggest pull/link" thread.

Still can do other stupid shit like terroize people, curse, sleep etc. You have laundry list of nastys so might as well avoid them by Ying/Yanging it.
