I got a copy off of Amazon for $40 a few weeks ago, check that out.

The storylines that I can rememeber being wowed at are Chrono Trigger, MGS1, and Chains of Promathia.

I'm about halfway through FFVII right now, and it is pretty cool so far. Nothing amazingly wow though, probably because I'm used to that kind of storytelling in games now. If I played it back when it first came out, yeah it might have been amazing.

Next on my to do list are FFT and FFVI, so maybe one of those will make it onto my list.

Edit: OMG I forgot about Breath of Fire II, that was pretty damn sweet.

Disgea was ace with all its endings and great character development.

MGS 1 and 3 were brilliantly put together; Plot character, all of it as far as I'm concerned.

Beyond Good and Evil I thought was nice. A simple yet satisfying plot.

Shadow of The Colossus. The plot is purely implied, there's no explenation at all to the game, you're thrown straight in and its never explained, and it just works so well.

Also: Chains of Promathia first plot that impressed me in a good while, glad I finished it.

Wish I'd finished Vagrant Story and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time though. Nice starts but I just lost interest.

And I like the FF7 plot. Despite all the plot holes, unexplained events, sporadic characterisation and what-not; it's an epic plot; Just a bit of a shame it collapses into itself in such a drastic manner, SE tried too hard on that one.

Disgea - never played it myself, doesn't really look like the kinda game i'd play

MGS1-3 are classics never completed 3 though, the quirks are funny in Subsistance or w/e it's called.

Beyond Good and Evil- i agree with you on this, the pig was annoying though and the ending was a tad retarded

Shadow of the Colossus - this thread is about best STORY...i thought this game was fun to play for an hour, but when the story DOESN'T EVEN EXIST there's nothing to keep you playing the game...it's a terrible example.

CoP- yep, i liked it too gogo Prishe

Vagrant Story- i rented it and thought it was good, the battle system needs a lot of practice i think, didn't play enough of it to get to the good parts of the story

    FF7- just...die...you explained yourself why it's a bad story

Xenosaga- i've only played the 2nd one, i think it's a bad one to start with considering what i've heard about the 1st and 3rd. the game is soooooooo slow to get into the story most ppl i know would stop playing the game before they got to the interesting parts,

i personally like FF8's story, good character development and introductions and the whole GF memory thing which in turn makes them forget eachother then omg they remembered and omg spoilers...

I disagree on SoC Helpoemer, something about the fact that the story isn't explicit and that you need to really pay attention to the game and limited dialogue really appealed to me personally from a story-telling point of view.

I like the Openess of FF7's plot for some reason too, like I said in another thread; trying to make sense of FF7 can lead to interesting conversations, as well as a lot of headaches. I've had some good, though ultimately futile, conversations with friends trying to make sense of FF7.

Then again I'm a Lit student, so I might be reading too much into the games from an analytical point of view.

FF8 was the first FF I ever played, loved it. But looking back on it the Squall-Rinoa thing was too random for me, he just falls in love with her for no apparent reason after being an apathetic, angsty prick throughout the game. Though I did appreciate the song on the Ragnarok when they're in the cockpit.
The GF Memory thing was a nice plot twist too.

Side Note: Despite how annoying the NPC's were in BGandE you have to admit, as far as CPU controlled sidekicks go they do rather well and are rather useful when compared to CPU controlled Characters in other games.

    Legend of Dragoon was good.

FF7, FFT, FF9 and KH2 are best for me, I might choose FF7 as best because of what was said earlier, the openness. You really can analyze it for a while and talk about who/what people really are and such. And oddly enough the movie didn't answer much...it made me rethink a few things and maybe ask more questions lol

I really loved Eternal Darkness' storyline. I loved how they tied that all together, and the final CG scenes between the "gods" or w/e owned.

Even though it was a GC64 game .

Hands Down FF8, loved every second of that game. And to you who said FF3 (6) was ahead of its time, I salute you.

Tales of Symphonia had one of the best, if not the best, storylines ever.

Ok, as far as FFVII goes, I enjoyed it as I played it. But when you look back on it you just can't help but think "Hmmm." There was a lot more potential there that wasn't explained/used, at least for me.

FF8 was very enjoyable, especially when they started the discussion of time travel. I still haven't wrapped my whole head around what Dr. Whatshisface? said towards the end of the 3rd disc. Deep shit.

MGS series has always been on my list of favorites, and it's hard for me to think that MGS4 is going to cost 600+ dollars to play...

Oh, Xenosaga, too. I have to restart my Xenosaga II game though... I didn't get psycho pocket. ><

And I gotta say Ninja Gaiden just for the fact that you could ruin somebody's SHIT in that game.

And Halo > Halo 2 kthx

I agree with the OP and second post, I loved Twilight of the Spirts story and it was brilliantly constructed. Final Fantasy Tactics was amazing, probably my favorite game ever.

I also love FFVII, and hating on it seems to be a trend nowadays so just leave others to their own opinions.

I loved the FFVIII story and gameplay as well. A few others here have posted that and I know Septimus agrees with this one.

Seriously, no game even comes close to:

    Monkey Island 2
    Day of The Tentacle

    Honorable Mentions:
    Half Life Series
    Phantasy Star 2
    Ultima 7 and Ultima 7 Part 2: Serpent's Isle
    Final Fantasy 3 US *FF6 I guess?*

    THE TRENDS OF THE INTERNET

"OMG I LOVE FFVII, BEST STORY EVER. EVERYONE IN THE WORLD LOVES FFVII!"

Hey, wait! I want to be nonconformist! (lolemo)

"OMG FFVII IS LAME, YOU SHOULD PLAY REAL RPGS, LIKE ME! EVERYONE IN THE WORLD WHO LOVES FFVII IS LAME, IT SUCKS".

Remember that time people based their opinions on videogames on videogames?
