First MySpace...
Now YouTube...
It's only a matter of time before Facebook gets bought out too (people have estimated it could be worth $2 billion).
All I can say is I'd bet that all of these deals end up hurting the companies who paid for them.

I do believe this is assuming he gained his money without going back on his own beliefs. Now shut up about it.

That's crazy... I just read a thing today about how Youtube needs about 1 million people to pay around 100 bucks a year to keep up with their current growth. (Written like a month ago)

It is REALLY going to suck if they take Facebook.Originally Posted by Quicklet

All this is, is one step closer to the complete ownage/censorship to the interweb. *not surprised*
Google and Youtube will remain as separate sites, it's just owned by the same company now. For the most part that means nothing big is going to change for a while, other than a few more ads here and there (they gotta keep money coming in to keep running it somehow, free sites that large can't last forever without some form of support).By the way, any idea when this will go into effect? since I just went on youtube like normal.
Considering the way YouTube worked, it was really only a matter of time before something like this happened, their costs were ridiculously high and they only had one investor. IMO we're fortunate enough that it was bought by Google instead of something like NBC, Yahoo, or Microsoft
Google actually owns a part of, and works in partnership with AOL so it's not that far from what you just saidI'm not surprised that somebody bought YouTube. I was thinking it was going to be AOL, to try to push "their" broadband. (Which is really just local DSL + extra charges.)
In the end, there's no real way to know which direction this is going to go, but I wouldnt say it's necessairly bad yet, we'll just have to wait and see
You know the "internet advertising market" makes me laugh. No one goes on the internet to look at ads. It has come to the point where it is a source of comedy. I mean does google really thing anyone pays any attention to those three sets of words that link to some website no one is going to visit?
If you put ads on a site that has a video playing, for the person to even click on that ad(not that they would), they would have to stop the video or get a big window in front of th video.
I mean, I'm not saying google and co are wrong for putting it there, but the people who pay for it are stupid.
