I remember how pissed I was when they took uncensored(well, for the most part) Yu Yu and put it on Toonami. Oh, what the hell was that?
Meh, at first it seemed like they were kinda picky about what they advertised... Now i just TiVo my shows and to hell with it.

Yea yea, I liked Inuyasha, I really did...
When it was called MOONLIGHTING (I honestly found it entertaining until the first time we all thought Naraku was dead. -_-)
So far, the only four truly great anime [as] has had on were Bebop, FMA, FLCL, and Champloo.
(I liked some other stuff, liked s-cry-ed, but I am able to recognize that it is a mindless,
highly dramatized and romanticized beat-em-up...which I like, so it wasn't a problem.
Conan was also fucking awesome, but not great.)
NGE is, for the most part, EMO Fodder.
The psychological components of the show seemed trivial to me since the leads were all transparent,
emotionally weak, or both (vhy hullu ther, THE FUCKING MALE LEAD).
I'm sorry if I wasn't endeared to them, but I don’t like a middle ground when it comes to
complexity in a lead character, or at least, I like them to be a little less self-absorbed.
(The only decent moments of the show were when 01 would go berserk,
the show didn't have nearly enough fights of that caliber.)
Self-absorbed and psychologically unbalanced to the point of (conscious) self-destruction.
I wonder what demographic that’s meant to appeal to...HMMMM....
Incidentally, I hate anime that seem to glorify, Hell SANCTIFY, indecision.
Going through an internal analysis of yourself in relation to the situation is one thing,
but in life or death situations, stopping cold when you have no real emotional connection to anything applicable is just ridiculous.
I fucking hate Gundam Seed and adored most of Gundam Wing (and shows of the like) for this very reason.
I believe Wing was the only Gundam to mix the pilot's thoughts and emotions, political commentary,
and battles so seamlessly that you forget they're in 20' tall robots in space.
(It's not the gaudy spectacle of angsty douchebags in, what is essentially, a flying high school.)
Every single male lead was pretty much a warmonger ('cept that pussy blonde dude, and even he kicked ass),
especially the best of them all, Heero Yuy. He Ate the Souls of Men. He Killed as a way of Life.
He was the Living Embodiment of Mortal Evisceration...Then that bitch Relena Ruined Him.
He was a Mother Fucking Killing Machine and she made him SOFT (sorta).
..I feel I've gone off base a tad.
I'll just wrap up by saying Treize Khushrenada was the best fucking guy ever.
He knew what war was supposed to be like.
He was calm, cool, & collected to the very end and always...a Gentleman.
I liked Sealab, but it went downhill when the guy who played murphy died,
12oz was entertaining for a while, but I admit I got used to the shock value (none of them really topped the first episode),
squidbilies is trying very desperately to be ATHF and seems to be failing (though they have their moments.)
The only truly great original comedy shows are ATHF and Venture Bros.
My point is that even suggesting one genre is somehow better than the other is the very definition of asinine
and that dismissing what is very close to the pinnacle of a genre is an insult to the process.
It is fairly likely that if you had said TGTTM was good and FLCL sucked, I would have said practically the same thing here
and would have added the word hypocrite (since both shows are about an evil imp destroying an otherwise decent person's crappy life)
On the subject of pushing crap down our throats, I don't care.
I'm not weak enough to be instantly taken in by any marketing campaign that gets slapped on my screen.
You can't expect to keep some of this shit on the air without a large output of cash,
and it's not like they ever try to dodge the fact that they're doing it.
In fact they usually point it out fairly explicitly and present it in a humorous/witty enough way for me to accept their shameless sales pitches.
We need more stuff like this on American TV

wow, the hell is wrong with you?LD
Same thing happened to TechTv
I enjoyed Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman and Tom Goes. Tom was interesting because of the styling, and at least a little funny, I can't say that I didn't enjoy it.
I remember when they where doing those VW commericals.
I also remember the day they killed Bleach.

Adult Swim was awesome, there are still some awesome parts. I watch for Boodocks, Harvey Birdman, Robot Chicken, and Venture Brothers. Sea Lab was funny but should have stopped when Murphey's voice actor died. Aqua Teen Hunger Force was awesome but jumped the shark after the third season and they have played the first two seasons so much that they are not funny anymore. I'm not sure when Space Ghost jumped the shark, but it did too. Brak was canceled at the right time, it was starting to get old. Tom Goes to the Mayor is not funny, taking pictures of people making dumb faces then putting a photocopy filter on it is not funny. 12oz Mouse, Squidbillies, Moral Orel, Stroker and Hoop, Perfect Hair Forever, and Minoriteam should all suffocate on the gassous leavings of 100 fan boys. Same goes for Baby Blues, Mission Hill, Home Movies, and the Oblongs.
If Adult Swim wants to sell out, they could at least make better programs and get licensing to better anime than Shin-chan and Eureka Seven. (Damn I hate that show.)
heh ever since Adult Swim started ive been watching it so i'm kinda still support it ;P
but i agree with some of you, more anime plz, less 12oz mouse, tom goes to the mayor, squidbillies.
but i like how they bring in new good anime like Bleach, Eureka Seven, Trinity Blood, etc.
o and Metalocalypse rocks!
Good anime yes... but the dub voices are soooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. I didn't mind too much in the beginning, but then I watch some of the 'drama' parts and then I watched the episode with Chad... it's like they are reading a book in a classroom. I don't know if its on One Piece level.Bleach
You know, adult swim has a lot of anime fans... and anime fans usually don't mind Japanese voice actors, so why not make a "sub anime" night or something, where they show us unedited and subbed episodes of current or new animes. I can't imagine how cheap it would be since people do it for free on the internet all the time.
Hell no, that show was the greatest.Originally Posted by Septimus
I've been watching AS since it's premier on Sunday and Thursday nights. Most of what they have now sucks, it's a shame. Boondocks, a bit of ATHF, Mission Hill, and some of Sealab were the only comedy shows I really enjoyed. Futurama and Family Guy were good when they started showing them, but now, after showing repeats for over 3 years, it's not that great.
Most of their Anime shows are pretty good too.
Everyone is accusing Adult Swim for butchering Anime (I did too in a recent post :X) but we should really be blaming VIZ Media.
Note some of there anime:
Viz Media:
Bleach
Full Metal Alchemist
InuYasha
MegaMan NT Warrior
Naruto
One Piece
Zatch Bell!
All have terrible voice acting and none can touch Cowboy Bepop or Samurai Champloo (I'm not just speaking of Steven Blum's work, I'm talking about as a whole show).
And Venture Brothers is a great show.
I don't blame Adult Swim for the Bleach, but just saying its baddddd. I'd have to disagree with you on Full Metal Alchemist, and out of all the bad dubs I've seen, Naruto was almost a breath of fresh air.
Oh man, NT Warrior. Now that was probably the worst dub of them all. Man... it was bad.
I cannot stress this enough:
FUCK PEE WEE HERMAN
(and I don't mean literally.)
AS has gone from showcasing some true gems of anime, to a bloated money-making machine. It's like the MTV of animation, where they're trying to tell the viewers what's cool to watch. Problem is, the viewers who've been around since day 1 of AS are a little too intellectual to have their likes/dislikes dictated to them. End result: Adult Swim loses.
It's totally hit or miss now with their programming decisions. They add some pretty funny stuff like Metalacolypse, but turn right around and try to get people into watching Saved by the Bell and Pee Wee Herman. They need a serious shift in program managers over there, and revert back to the earlier days when shows were added because of originality and creativity, not because they hit as wide a target audience as possible or try so hard to be original and outlandish that they unintentionally make mockeries of themselves (12oz mouse, Perfect Hair Forever.)
The sad thing is, I don't think Adult Swim could ever be replaced if they continue to flush themselves down the shitter. It's a one-time phenomenon, and any other network that tries to emulate it will probably be rejected as wanna-be's and posers. If CN can't pull AS back from the brink of self-destruction, they should just take it out back and shoot it to put it out of its misery before things get too far.
Full Metal Alchemist did have it's moments, but Roy Mustang's actor killlllled me inside, but it was good if you look at other work done by VIZ.Originally Posted by BRP

I thought Home Movies was hilarious.
But I guess I'm weird like that.
I'd totally go for a "subs night" on Adult Swim. Most animes have better JP voice actors anyway, with a few exceptions including Bebop. If you've heard the JP voice actors for Bebop... lol... its painful to listen to.
