Roadrunner is amazing, I never DC at all. At times when people are using the internet the most, I still have 6.6+ mbps. So yes, Go with them.

My ISP is SBC (now ATT I think).

My internet seems to be just about as bad as you can imagine. But I live in a building built in the 1920's with a landlord who does only the most minimal repairs so I wouldn't be too quick to blame the ISP. The SBC customer service stinks though, I've had them out several times and they haven't fixed it.

I had this exact same problem occur when I got the upgrade. Went fine, but gradually dragged slower than dial-up, before coming to a complete dead hault. Turns out the installing technician didn't put filters on EVERYTHING like they should have-- satellite receivers for TV act like a modem(?) or something and was messing with the DSL connection ;x After getting filters on everything the connection's run very smooth and crisp--- only time I do disconnect now is when someone knocks over the router and it unplugs itself.

AT&T/SBC Yahoo customer support isn't bad though, just use the "I am taking a few classes online this semester and this is REALLY making it hard to get any work done" line like I do, usually get a tech out there in the same day or get bumped up the to supervisor, which gets you a tech within a few hours XD

Yeah I have to agree with the general consensus that Comcast really sucks. Their employees are rude, their service was constantly under maintenance, and they really pissed me off. I switched to Qwest and they were awesome. Reliable service ftw. I had called to ask a few questions before and I don't think I ever stayed on hold for more than 1 minute & they were always very helpful & friendly

I worked for Qwest, they are heavily regulated not to have anyone waiting or on hold for very long or they get fined out the ass, thats why they never have very long strikes =D

I have Motorola cable modem and i never get dc, literally lol. The only time i have trouble was the one time the motorola server went down for a few hours, so that was 1 time in over a year since i had it. Dynamis is pretty much lag free, but i'm also a PS2 player so that might be why.

When I lived in edison we had cablevision optimum online, worked like a charm, now living further south in jersey we have the Comcast cable internet. It is the worst, they suck, the connection sucks, and the customer service sounds like sage fuckin sundi. We had a problem in march so I call them and ask what's up, they report my area's been having problems. So I ask if they're gonna do anything, they say they'll see about sending a tech out on a 15 day work order.

15 (work)days later the internet is still dead. So I call them again (this costs money to call them)

Me>> Hi I'm [name] from [place], did that work order ever get completed?
    Comcast>> we don't know
Me>> well did anybody come out to check the towers?
    Comcast>> I can't be sure
    Me>> the internet doesn't work
    Comcast>> I see
Me>> So how about sending someone out to have a look?
Comcast>> We can request a 15 day work order

    ........

I live on a one-way street and their rock and roll cable guy came speeding down the wrong way.

Seriously, if you can, get this it completely shits all over everything else.

Sage sundi works for comcast too??

sbc/yahoo now att has utter shit service as well... i orginally had my speeds upgraded, now they never flipped the switch im a network tech and i knew it was nothing on my end, so i call them... they take me through all this bullshit that accomplishes nothing and i can hardly understand the guy im talking too (india outsource ftw... cant stand that shit) finally after an hour or so i get transfered to 2nd lvl where the guys tells me "hold on while i change my settings" (what id be telling apu all along>.<;;) and then boom it was the speeds it was supposed to be>.>

Speakeasy on the other hand ive only had to call once... i called them up the guy knew what he was talking about, he told me he'd check out on his end what was going on, so we finally got it working again all in about 10-15 minutes tops with a guy who spoke english, knew what he was talking aboutm and wasnt reading from a script

IDK if they're in NYC though

I got the tripple package (Internet, TV, Phone all in one!).

Also, http://www.dslreports.com/ has reviews on service providers.
I have optimum online and I dc all the time. Its probably because im using this netgear wireless router so im not gonna bash the service.
I had a beat up Lynksys router for a while and dc all the time. Called up Cablevision they sent out a tech he tested everything, than added a direct cable line (no splits) up to my bed room for $50 cash. Told me to get a new router and ever since than it's been near perfect.
I know its the router because i use to be able to host games on Xbox live with the max users and when i got this router everything went bad. I guess i'll call them up and see if they can test it out.

I have speakeasy as well. Never a problem and only time I lose connection is because of maintenance. And like others have said, the customer support is excellent.

My parents use Charter cable for their internet and it's always held both my brother and I up rather well. We would play at the same time and there was never any problems. There was a disconnect about once in a blue moon.

College networks, on the other hand...

Living in PR screwed me for a while when I first moved here for my job. The entire island was still on dialup while starting to venture into DSL. Then about two years ago adelphia brought cable to the island. Personally I pay for both DSL and Cable. If one fails, I have a back up. But man, I miss my Comcast from Connecticut. That line was kick ass

I used to have Yahoo SBC DSL, and the best advice I can give is not to use the software that comes with it.

You have to install it to setup your username and password. Once that's done, back up everything and do a clean install of Windows, because that software is hard to get rid of otherwise.

Get a router and set it up now that you have the name and password, and you're good to go. Getting rid of the software added almost 100 kb/S to my download speeds, if that says anything.

One other thing, their DNS servers rather blow, and the same goes for Comcast. Try changing your primary DNS server to 4.2.2.1 - 4.2.2.6, depending on what pings the fastest.

I used Comcast for 3 years since it was the only highspeed available and I didn't have any problems once I quit using their DNS servers.

Kinda off topic, but I don't want to make a new thread.

Anyone else having problems logging into POL at the moment? I've reset my router, cable modem, PC, re-checked port forwards, etc....I just can't login to POL. I was able to early this morning, but cannot now.

I got the 'it should be back on in a couple of hours' response for 3 days straight. It was ridiculous.

Their TV service isn't much better. I've had 2 instances now where 'techs' come to set up HD boxes and either leave with them not working or leave with the wrong piece of equipment installed.

I did have good luck with Cox in the Omaha area. And when I had an issue their customer service was pretty decent.
Ouch. I lived in Chicago for almost 7 years (just left 2 weeks ago lol) and never had any major problems with Comcast cable internet. Once in a blue moon the service would go down, but would be back up within a few hours. Customer service, to me, was pretty good. I don't know much about their TV cable, though.

Edit: My connection to FFXI was almost always good.

Edit 2: I used AT&T a few years ago (before it turned to SBC) and it blew. Service would go down a lot, and sometimes when it does I have to actually let their tech guys come to fix it at my apartment (they would have to do something with the lockbox). Dunno if it improved any lately. Customer service over the phone was mediocre.

I just recently had the same experience in Atlanta with Comcast. Other than that I rarely DC from ffxi. I have the comcast top tier cable modem with the HD DVR. I will say that the comcast on demand service is really nice.

Bellsouth DSL service was good, again rarely DC'd from FFXI, however their customer service is probably the worst I have ever dealy with.

    Good luck!
Your sig is one of the unique ones I've seen on these forums, I really like it.
